I found this old picture recently and I wonder how many can name the shooters, what year, and where the photo was taken. Notice how skinny and young everyone looks.

I recognized three. The fellow on the back left signed my card.

Looking at the picture of all those good looking young guys I realized that 4 of the 5 guys in the front row are not with us anymore. Amazing how fast time flies and yes I recognize everyone and also the location.

The gentleman in the back row on the far right looks like a slimmer version of a fella I shoot a lot with now. Classy guy. The kid holding up the plaque wearing the shades and funny tee shirt looks like he might have been a real a$$ hat!

Back in a time when skinny was the norm, today not so much.

I am sure of six and the location. I worked there with the family and enjoyed every minute. One of the best place ever.

My guess on the back row from left to right, Terry Z, ???, Brad D, Ken R, Aden K, David B. I don’t recognize any of the front row. The windows in the building behind them look like the old trophy room at Jaqua’s but at that time it probably would have been Fisher Brothers? I didn’t get to shoot at Great Eastern but that would be my next guess. Let me know if I’m close!

I know the gentleman in the cowboy hat. He got me started in trapshooting around 1974 or was it 1975. He ran a small two trap club in Athens county Ohio. Good guy and tough singles shooter in the day.

Back left is Terry Zaplatta. On a windy day at Airport Gun Club, he shot 500 straight singles with his 870. He used the heavier 1100 on handicap. That was back when there was sport in the game. Three hole targets were later pushed out by Neil Winston and friends.

    Time for a graph.

I remember reading about that 500 x 500 in Trap and Field when he did it. I was living in MD at the time.
Agree about the 3 hole targets, plus going the distance.

These are fun! Maybe we should have one of these a week? Sad that almost half of the men are no longer with us. Interesting that more than half are in the Ohio Trapshooting Hall of Fame. At least 2 of them are in the national Trapshooting Hall of Fame.

Doug, that’s a good picture! I think we have had that one on before. I recognize three of the shooters. I sure do miss that fella second from the right.

Starting with the 3rd from the left shooter they are Paul Fiegel, Lauern Hare, Merle Decker, Wille Anderson, and Darrell Louverege. I'm not sure about the first 2 on the left.

OK I'll post the names a little later today. If no one can do it before me. Some clues are the year is 1977, the place is the Great Eastern Gun Club, the event is the state team honor shoot. The first one Great Eastern had.

Ok here goes with these shooters. As I said this was the fist state Team honor shoot at the Great Eastern gun club. I don't think all of the OSTA state team was there. Back row left to right.

Terry Zapalata , a great guy and always shot well at the big shoots. He was the guy to beat in the Ohio State shoot. He shot a 1100 and 870.
Frankie Hora, Jr. shooter didn't shoot much after he got out of the jr ranks. Last time I saw Frank was 3 or 4 years ago at a Gun Auction in Eaton. We roomed together with Leo at a bunch of shoots in the mid 70's.
    Me All around nice guy.
Ken Reitz, a very good all around shooter but exceptional 16 yard man. and live bird shooter. His real passion is shooting black birds if I remember right.
Aden Kaufman, owner (along with Sue, Mack, and Jackie) of the Great Eastern gun club in Walnut Creek Ohio. Him and Sue introduced Ann and me at a shoot later in the summer of 77. This shoot was his idea and went on for many years after this first one. It was as hard to win at this shoot as the state shoot. Aden got Fishburn started with the Cardinal Center.
Dave Berlet, Trap Shooting HOF member, Clay Target Champion, legendary eater, questionable story teller. Only three times he ever would tell a lie. are for Convenience, if he needs to, and once in awhile to stay in practice. The last time I saw him he was hauling in bluegills.

    Bottom row left to right

Robert Havner, past Ohio ATA delegate, shooter for many years.
Dan Cherubini, Jr. Dan was a fun loving dentist from Zanesville who shot more practice than any shooter I ever new. A typical Michigan State shoot Saturday for Dan would be get up shoot 200 practice targets. Break the first hundred of the singles event. Shoot 200 practice targets, break the second hundred of the singles for a 200 straight. Shoot 200 practice targets before the shoot off. He did this at every shoot for the time I knew him.
Jack Rieger, I dubbed him the Mechanical man. Jack was one nervous guy. He was a very good shot but best at doubles. I have lot's of Mechanical Man stories. We shot together a bunch.
Robert Mieczkowski. Bob was a Jr all american when I first started shooting. He was a doubles shooter before anyone else in Ohio was in his league. He appears from time to time yet today.
Charlie Pitcock, I knew him least of all these guys.At one time or other I was squaded an shot with all these guys but Charlie. He was an All American when I was new shooter. Dr. Longshot can fill in Charlie's resume.

You can look these guys up in old trap and fields from the early 70's. I miss all the one's that are gone. Aden, Bob, Dan, Jack, and Charlie. I miss those shoots too.

My son, Tony and I have both sides of the sign that stood at the road to the entrance to Great Eastern. This side hangs in my garage over the work bench. Tony has the other side hanging in his garage. Sure miss Aden, Mac and especially all the great times we all had with everyone there.
