Lynn A. Gipson, 67, of New Athens, IL, born October 24, 1958, in Kansas City, MO, died Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL.

At an age as early as 14, Lynn was introduced to trapshooting and began working at Elliots Gun Club and soon was the manager. After he graduated from college, from the University of Missouri with a bachelor’s degree, he began his accounting job. All the while, Lynn remained involved in the shooting sports. He was on the Board of Directors of Kansas City Trapshooters Association (KCTA), where he became manager in 1997. During that time, he partnered with Steve Ricketts to start Gipson-Ricketts Lead Reclamation.

Lynn was currently serving as the Executive Director and Grand American Tournament Director of the Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA). During his years at ATA, he acquired new sponsors for the Grand and made it a Global Event. He was specifically thrilled about the addition of Brazil. Lynn was recently asked about why he has been successful. He explained surround yourself with good people. trust them and have just a little luck.

Lynn was also on the Board of the Missouri Trapshooters, the Trapshooting Hall of Fame Board, a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA), served on the NRA shotgun committee, and was very excited about his upcoming trip to Texas to be added to the NRA board. He was proud to be a member of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR).

When not involved with trapshooting, Lynn also loved to play golf and was crazy about his dachshunds, Auggie, Heidi, and Gunther. As a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Freeburg, IL, Lynn was honored to be asked to be a lector and excited to be a member of the Chancel Choir at church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Dorothy (Weide) Gipson; a brother-in-law, Larry Gieringer, his nephews, D.Jay and Eddie.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 26 years, Karen (Williams) Gipson, whom he married March 18, 2000; a brother, Gerald “Jerry” (Margaret) Gipson; a sister, Lorraine Gieringer; a sister-in-law, Kathy (Lewis) Smith; two brothers-in-law, Gary (Susan) Williams and Greg (Jeni) Williams; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials made to ATA will be utilized for a “For those we Lost Memorial” displayed annually at the Grand or to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, designated for the Choir. Memories may be shared to the family online.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 1, 2026, and from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2026, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Freeburg, IL.
