I am considering it for my 12 year old…..something that will grow with him. His current LOP is about 12.5-13…..is there enough room to shorten it that much?

Tad, I believe you could get a bit shorter recoil pad

Yes you can, I have one on a gun for my son that is that size with a different pad. The shortest with a thin pad is 12.5”

Tad, it's the best investment possible for a growing kid. Speaking from experience. I have no affiliation with seller, I just believe in the product and know what it did for my son. Good shooting, Rey

A PFS unit can be shortened.
Cut all the same amount off each piece. No major disassembly needed.
-Remove the top rod and cut the end with threads. Square up the end in a lathe or mill. Counter sink and tap the threads to the original depth.
-Unscrew the bottom rods. Cut off the internal threaded part. Leaving it assembled when doing so. Square up the cut end, in a mill. Counter sink the internal threads to remove the burr.
Cut off the external threads. Leaving it assembled when doing so. Square up the end in a mill. Remove burr/chamfer end with a file.
I took off 5/16” off my wife’s K80 set up. More could be easily removed.
While it’s apart……..On the internal threaded part I cut two slots short of the clamp depth. Then drilled two holes at the end of the slot to put a larger radius at the end of the slot. This makes it much easier to tighten the assembly.
