Putting this in the shooting category because it deals with the items we use for shooting. I just received this email notice from GB. Just a heads up for anyone using GB that their potential buyers are going to have to pay more than the winning bid.
And if you bid on something it will cost you more than you bid.

Appropriate that they are starting this on April Fools Day.

On April 1, 2021, GB will be adding to the list of MPF states. In addition to the original 8 states (in Red and Bold) GB will collect and remit sales tax for an additional 36 states based on the address where the item is delivered (Ship To address).

    Complete list:
    Alabama
    Arizona
    Arkansas
    California
    Colorado
    Connecticut
    District of Columbia
    Georgia
    Hawaii
    Illinois
    Idaho
    Indiana
    Iowa
    Kentucky

    Louisiana
    Maine
    Maryland
    Massachusetts
    Michigan
    Minnesota
    Mississippi
    Nebraska
    Nevada
    New Jersey

    New Mexico
    New York
    North Carolina
    North Dakota
    Ohio
    Oklahoma
    Pennsylvania
    Puerto Rico
    Rhode Island
    South Carolina
    South Dakota
    Tennessee
    Texas
    Utah
    Vermont
    Virginia
    Washington
    West Virginia
    Wisconsin
    Wyoming

ebay started this in January 2021, sales tax on everything you buy doesn't matter where it comes from.

That is correct. I sold that 34" 1100 barrel and the buyer wasn't aware of the new rule. Barrel sold for $400, shipping was $12.00. His total was $440.00

I think if he had known about the "tax" he probably wouldn't have bid.

I ask a seller on e-bay if I had to pay the sales tax on a mini lathe I wanted to buy for my company. He said no exceptions. NO SALE. Cutting tools and items consumed in manufacturing are state tax exempt. But not on e-bay. Roger C.

Not in any way a defense of ebay or GB but none of these types of businesses WANTED to do it. If they did they would have done it a long time ago.

On the other hand. If the states are paying them some type of fee for collecting the states tax and the only reason they hadn't done it before was a lack of software then that is a different story.

IF? I do decide to use GB again I will make sure to put in my ad that the buyer will have to pay tax through GB.
