This question is a bit above my pay grade.

Hall of Famer Dave Berlet at 83 shoots the only 200 in the Class "A" Singles Event on the Class Shoot Day. He doesn't get to be the Champion. He doesn't get the trophy or trinket.

I doubt he would care about the trinket but it was a class shoot and he won that without a shoot off. Dave Berlet is a SR Veteran. He is not the Champion.

This was the "Class Shoot Day".

    Who can explain this one?

    Thanks for the messages.

    I report. You decide.

Regardless of the event name your score goes to Champion first, then to category, then- if you are not high score in your category, it goes to class. You don’t get to choose now, because at one point you could- people got upset because people were getting 2 bites at the apple. Not my rule, but thems the rules as I understand them.

Brad, this is a really dumb rule that for some reason they refuse to fix the problem. A few years ago at the grand, I declared myself as a vet. Broke 98 in a handicap event. There were two 99's that day and four 98's. Three of the 98's were vet's. There were trinkets for first through twelfth place. So, the 99's shoot off the first and second place. The one 98 non-category shooter got third place. The three VET 98's had to shoot off for one VET trinket. I won the shootoff. The other two 98 VET's got nothing. The 97's NON category got to shoot off the fourth place through twelfth place. In my opinion, never declare a category. In this real case, if I had not declared myself as a VET, I could have shot off for third through 12th place. I report, you decide.

You got to be nuts to declare for a category if you're not chasing allAmerican points; especially in Fl sr.vet is a given

10, Since I seem to be the person thrown into the center point of this post I'm going to give my take on the subject. Yes I understand the rule category can shootoff for champion, but if not the winner they must fall back to category. In a class championship event the champion is the winner of each class, so if a category shooter ties for or has the high score in their class wether it is class AAA, D, or any of the other classes why should they be denied the chance to be champion. At this point in time wether I get a trophy or what trophy I get isn't nearly as important as it was that I was fortunate enough to finally break another 200. Years ago these came along every once in awhile, but as I have got older they seem to have dried up and this one was very special to me. As hard as Grand trophies are to win I believe In class championship events category shooters should be qualified to shoot for champion as one class champion is event champion same as the other classes champions are. Class championship events are a whole different ball game than regular championships. Just my honest opinion.

    Dave,

Please believe me that I wasn’t belittling your score or saying you didn’t deserve a trophy or to get to shoot off for class. I just stated the rules and why I thought that particular rule came about- not that I stood behind it. Great shooting and you have a lot to be proud of in your shooting career- even if you didn’t get to bring a trophy home, you should remember that 200 forever.

Since there were only 3 sr. vet 200's I do have a trophy coming.

Good deal- I’m sure you’ve got plenty but it’s still nice to get something.
