Where are they throwing easy targets?

I shoot trap at several clubs around south-west Michigan and at Mason. I shoot some registered but mostly practice and games. If a three hole target is a straight away on station 1 and 5, that is what I see at the clubs around me. I help set the trap at my home club and we use a tee bar, a radar gun, and adjust the machine for a straight away on station 1 and 5. I know the "three hole" setting is not the minimum angle setting in the rule book, but that is all I see in my corner of the world.

You can start by telling us what brand of trap you're using at these clubs.

At my club we have a Pat trap, Mason also. Not sure about all of them.

At my local club there is a Pat Trap and a Superstar Trap. ...Both are set for the same speed, height, and angle.

What is different, is that the Superstar throws many more hard rights and hard lefts than the Pat trap.

This is due to the difference in how the traps operate.

The Pat trap operates hydraulically in a linear motion, and instantly reverses direction when the right & left limits are reached.

The Superstar operates mechanically with a reciprocating motion. ...There is more "dwell" time before and after the machine reaches it extreme angles and reverses.
