Do you know the EC members or Your Delegate?

Thinking about WPT's post reminding us of how the attending EC members preferred to remain segregated from the shooters I started thinking about my experiences. If you attended the Grand, Vandalia or Sparta, you tend to remember the private spaces reserved for EC members and Delegates. While I have absolutely no problem with areas provided for them to meet or relax for a time I believe the reality has been EC members and Delegates staying away from shooters unless they were on the line. Serving in either position can be a challenge and you become the target of many questions, demands and etc. but that's what you signed up for. What I see are shooters stepping up for election for one reason or another and then disappearing into the realm of the secret leadership society. A group that tends to see shooters as just a pain in the ass they would rather not deal with. Once a Delegate reaches zone VP and then the EC you can be sure they are more concerned in being seen as someone the others like versus someone the shooters like. I'm sure there are fine individuals who have done an admirable job and remained well liked but I'm not seeing much of that lately. Hiding is easy but getting out and experiencing the good with the bad is what a real leader does. Shooters will admire an individual willing to talk, argue, agree or disagree as long as they are willing to do it face to face and their sincerity can be viewed.

I do know who they are, but once elected they CHANGE. POWER comes to most, maybe POWER is not the word, but someone who feels they are better than the rest.

I voted for the person whom I felt would keep ATA Trapshooting in a Loving, Caring, Competetive, Sport. When I asked her a Target Angle, Distance question I got a WHO CARES ANSWER.

That is what happens, members do not stand up and be heard, just let the Good Ole Boys have their way.

No, sorry to say but if one knocked at the door I wouldn't know them! Partly my fault however they should make a better effort to meet the average shooter.
My locker in Vandalia was across from Pat Ireland (Virginia's delagate at the time) he let everyone know that he was a delegate and was always willing to ask any shooter about thier idea's and feelings on anything. He would also tell anyone what was going on in the meetings with the EB etc. I remember when the move to Sparta was going on, he was the only one I know that would hold a meeting by the lockers every morning and disclose what went on the night before. He had the belief that everyone had the right to be informed. He also always wanted input from the shooters, he never ended a conversation without asking my thoughts on the subject. We need more of that!

I actually talked to Pat Ireland several times on the telephone, he questioned some of the things I said and I explained my position to him and he agreed with much of my assessment, though not all of it ... Pat Ireland was ATA all the way and being delegate mean't more to him than it probably should of, he loved the idea of being known ... The move to Sparta was not what he believed was best for the ATA per our conversations and he admitted he voted against the people of his States desires , which he felt cost him being the delegate ... Pat was surprisingly honest and open about many things that were happening in and around the ATA, but would never memorialize them in the form of a letter or note, (e Mail) ... Pat was only one man, tried to do what was right best he could without upsetting the apple cart ... I enjoyed the talks we had and miss talking to the guy, I have talked to a few other principles (?) and have no desire to talk to them again ... I won't mention names but they know who they are ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

How dare anyone question the credentials of our fine ATA delegate Glen Lash? It seems every time I turn around I'm bumping behinds with him. Whether it's PA shoots both large and small or even Ohio, Glen's presence is always felt. Where else can you find a capable delegate willing to go the extra mile exposing corruption with phantom target totals and even promoting suspensions of members when deserved. Other states should forget popularity contests when electing delegates and elect delegates who actually work at doing the job. That's our Glen!

The problem being if you get a delegate who is all for the shooters, he or she will not fit in with the EC, ED, or many of the other BOD's by standing in the way of their agenda's ... If you get a good one fight like hell to keep him or her at all cost ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

I actually shoot with Pat Ireland at the Grand in Vandalia two events during the prelims. Nice guy, very willing to discuss anything. Over the years we discussed things at the locker room patio. Glen Lash I don't know but very glad to know he's s good one. I'm sure there are some very good delegates but unfortunately I think they're in the minority.

I am happy to say that I think I have a pretty good delegate here in South Carolina. Jim Faber goes out of his way to try and keep the ATA shooters here informed of what is going on. He doesn't think there should be a bunch of secrets between the ATA members/shooters and Executive Committee.

Terry Dean is the delegate from KY.. and the So Zone VP... I hardly call it hiding when he's sitting at the classification desk at the Silver Dollar during the Dixie Grand and Southern Grand. If he's not busy I've found him more then willing to talk.

Seitz9010 is spot on about Pat Ireland.. few things he liked talking about more then our sport. I had the pleasure of bringing him strawberries when he came to FL.. we had some great chats while enjoying them. Also had the pleasure of shooting with him. He is missed...

Phil Kiner is the delegate from WY.. and very approachable and willing to discuss matters.

Daryl Hayes is the delegate from MI... he's always out and about and willing to talk and listen to concerns.

Bob Felber is the delegate from SD.. another that you'll find sitting at the classification desk at the SD state shoot

Just a few.. but I find most everyone I've met is approachable ..

FlaLagarto you kill me sometimes. Hard to tell when you are serious. Someone with username "Phil Kiner" dropped by the site.

Like Isaiah Thomas when he told Michael Jordan when the Bad Boys from Detroit had their way with Chicago the first year Jordan was a pro He said come back and we will Butt Fu@$ everyone of you -- all he did was wake up the Giant-and he got bent over and over and over again to the tune of 6 rings so threaten all you want but be sure to put some $$ up and the 27 Yard guys will take it all home August 7, 2015

Phil had some great thoughts. Voted on that one time 2 yard reduction a second time. Thanks for the humor.

And I never ask you why you post what you post. Like I said....hard to tell when you are serious.

Were you kidding when you made the above post? We have to ask now?

I need to second what Ron Burdick said about South Carolina Delegate Jim Faber.

Never, and I mean Never had I felt so welcomed when I saw any delegate. I lived in South Carolina for a while, and Jim Faber would go out of his way to see the shooters.

What a wonderful Delegate the State of South Carolina has...More Delegates should take Jim's lead !

Yes indeed, as Ron put it:

There are no doubt some BOD and EC members who truly do care and take their position seriously, problem being there are not enough of them to carry a vote against the majority and those agendas ... We have had both good and not so good delegates, the bad (not so good) ones seem to stack the deck against the good ones at election time ... Arizona had a chance to elect a GOOD delegate last election but the former delegate was humping legs to get someone else put in his former position ... There's always next year ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Unfortunately the election of delegates turns out to be a popularity contest in many cases or in some cases a top shooter. Many voters donot know about the ATA problems and just vote for a name not knowing what the position should be about or even caring. That's just the way it is presently in many cases and should be changed. In many elections not just for delegate for the ATA but locally and Federal many times voters are unaware of the facts and problems.

Maybe the voters do know whom they are voting for, and don't see as many issues or care about them as some others do?

Every member does get a vote but local level (Delegate) nothing to do with the EC or any dealing the ATA does ... The BOD is supposed to be the so called "Watch Dog" and monitor things on behalf of the members they are elected to represent , if by chance they do not vote the members desires there is nothing that can be done other than vote them out first chance you get ... In my state, the members don't vote to select a delegate. The gun clubs hosting ATA events each have a vote for the selection process.

    Michael,

If your are correct, your association is in violation of ATA rules regarding the election of State and Provincial Delegates. The election must be held at a meeting on a date and time specified in the program between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. on one of the last three days of the annual State/Provincial Championship tournament. If held on the last day the meeting must start no later than 12 noon.

"All members of the ATA residing in that State or Province, who are present in person at the meeting and are also members of their State or Provincial Association, who have been active members (e.g., having registered targets) in any two (2) years, shall be entitled to vote for a State or Provincial Delegate and for not over two (2) Alternate Delegates."

What State or Province are you from?

Thinking about the topic of the thread:
Do you know the EC members or Your Delegate?

Does anyone have the name of the delegate or EC member(s) that stepped forward and warned the other delegates that the $2,100,000 Hall of Fame building would not be owned by the ATA or the ATA Hall of Fame?

Just for the record let's clear that issue up.

If you live in Indiana.. you are mistaken. I lived and shot there and the Delegate was elected every year at the state shoot by the members.

I must of misunderstood one of the state directors when I inquired at the state shoot. I have very severe hearing loss which is a great liability. Glad to find out that I have a vote! I thank Historybuff for correcting me. I apologize for posting incorrect information. Yes, I do live in Indiana.
