If the name US Open is not copyrighted by the ATA they can do nothing legally about the name being used by ISTA. Roger C.

Interesting disclaimer on the last page.

Once it gets posted on a public forum by the sender or the receiver, its dead meat and the disclaimer is meaningless ...This was obviously posted by Barry Roach to Ned Meyer and Barry is an agent for the ATA," Head Shooting and Membership Conductor" or something and he has shirts to prove it ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Good luck with a "disclaimer" in an e-mail. Ask Hillary if there is any legal recourse for 'leaked' e-mails. And she probably has more money to pursue legal action.

The US Open has had such a bad turn out in the past years what is there to really argue or debate about .. ? To move the US Open and Fall Classic can only make it better for all of the shooters and in turn increase the generated income for the ATA and ISTA , as well as the club ... I can't see much to fight about there "Really" ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

It is ALL about control ... and nothing more.

IF it is an "ATA" shoot, and they get their "fees", who else, other than control freaks, give a damn WHERE it is.

They hired a King, and his Kingdom is important to him, NOT the membership ... other than a few servants.

They better go after the NSCA, cause they also have a "US OPEN". Or did the ATA steal the name form the NSCA?

IF someone else can grow the US OPEN over its numbers today then why is there complaining. Is that not what is best for the members and the sport.

I think the USTA or the USGA might have more claims for the title 'U.S. Open'. I know the golf version is over 120 years old.

That's why there is only one golf, tennis, sporting clays, and trap shoot named the US Open, you don't get them confused, until you have two in the same sport. That is one of the requirements of infringement. If you're talking about golf, the consumer doesn't get confused if you name your tennis tournament the US Open.

Have fun bantering that back and forth.

Moot point. It's over, maybe a Grand at Sparta in 2016 but if so the financial loss will be borne by the ATA or their "Signature Sponsor." 2017 no Grand in Sparta, no shooting at the WSC. No WSC. Feeling pretty confident today about my source. Just wait a few months for the political wheels to turn. I guess in the meantime one can get excited about the slim possibility of a small 2016 event. Probably smaller than the Cardinal Classic. We'll soon see.

I do not think Barry Roach is high enough on that totem pole to start any crap and debate with Lynn (the Talking Head ) Gipson unless maybe he is bucking for that position in the Association ... It appears that Gipson's got a pretty good hold on his job based on ever thing he hasn't done with the exception of make claims that are not close to reality or realistic about generated revenues in and about the area of Sparta, Ill ... If I was Barry I would stand back and pay attention if he wants or expects more shirts, maybe a nice hat would help him get more recognition so people would know who he is and make his job easier (what is his job again..?) ... Gipson better keep his day job, gun business, and shot reclaiming business because he will never make it in the Movies, that's for damn sure, based on what we have all seen ... Barry, now that might be a different story because people always look taller in movies ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

WPT you can certainly remember when the Illinois State Association bought Mather's and instituted the 20 dollar state membership fee and all the back lash that followed that. I think Barry was on the board of the ISTA when that happened. You and I have been around Illinois Trap Shooting politics for too many years to be surprised by anything that happens. Brad

Interesting timeline 3rd week in December these guys knew the U. S. Open was going to be some where else. The vote had already been taken by the ISTA board. These guys are whining at the outcome.

Did any of you guys know why the Golden West Grand did not fall under ATA control. The name was copywrited and the ATA could not do anything about it. The Name Spring Grand did not originate with the ATA. It was thought up by the Pres. of Phoenix Trap & Skeet club. They did not copywrite it. After a year or two the ATA did and then charged Phoenix to use it. Roger C.
