I can remember when we had many great shooters that were leaders, and I can remember when we had great statesmen in the sport of trapshooting.

    Who are the leaders now?

    Someone please name a few.

The leaders of trap shooting in the day were made up of money shooters, beer drinkers, card players, and more than one woman chaser. They played hard, shot hard, and lived hard. Most were working men, company owners, and firearm industry connected in one way or another. More than one was a little shady and not always on the side of law enforcement, that being said they had their own code of ethics. I called many friends. They were shooting opponents, and I missed all of them when they passed. Today I see the AA team as point chasers who are more at home at a wine bar than the Beer tent.

Budweiser was the drink of my generation and the current generation seems to be bud lite, Niel Winston should be proud. The characters have left the building. I think this is what trap shooting is today, they have no soul, no shooter for the newbies to inspire to be. That's the real state of trap shooting, a rudderless, soulless bunch that flounder around searching for meaning.

Joe Charnigo should get a plug. He was able to create the Shoot from the Back Fence.

I had the privilege for a few years of shooting on a squad that had 4 of the best shooters in PA. Multiple times we had two 100’s, a 99, and two 98’s.
Three of them were multi time state team members. Four of us were State and/or Grand trophy winners. No other squad had as much fun as we did for those years.
It was one wisecrack remark, or joke, or ribbing one another until it was time to walk out on the first trap.
Then, and without fail, one of us would say,
“Alright, time to go to WORK.”
That’s the way we treated shooting registered targets. We weren’t there to make new friends.
Ever hear the saying, “Did my buddy miss one? Or did the SOB run em?”

Yesterday's hero's did not have the ego's that today's shooters have.

Well, when I was a trap setter, a lot of yesterday’s EGO’s were NOT leaders. Quite a few self proclaimed “my shit don’t stink” old duffs! I don’t see those attitudes today. Maybe it’s due to voice calls so that can’t blame slownpulls on trap help anymore.

When a puller screwed up and pulled one too fast or too slow who WOULD you blame?
