Starting a new entity to replace the ata would be a monumental task unfortunately no matter how many of us would just love for that to happen. It makes more sense to try and change the ata and dump the president, worthless board members and all the delegates that have allowed the ata to become only a memory of what was once a great organization. If a new organization for trap were to be formed it would have to have some big names attached to it like Berlet, Dysinger and any other big name shooter. I think a great choice to run any new trap organization would be Don Cogan (DuckDog) as he could charm a donut out of the hands of Berlet, and we all know that is no easy task.

I didn’t start a post saying someone should do it, the OP did. I merely stated the OP should do it, if he really thought it was necessary or needed. I’ll support it and we’ll see where it goes.

Oh I don’t know- from what you said, I feel like other was the appropriate word to use, glad you noticed that. I don’t care how much you bet at the casinos, if you fit in with a group, you fit in. If you are really betting that much money and your other post is about your bigger wins, are you sure that you’re breaking even? As for the fitting in again- it’s kind of like at a gun club, whether it’s throwing registered targets, unregistered targets, pigeons, you name it- you can be the guy with an 870/1100 or with a Perazzi/Krieghoff, you’ll fit in as long as you aren’t…a jerk, we’ll say. Birds of a feather type situation, you could say.


I agree, there are many people that used to shoot, that don’t anymore. That’s a shame- the ATA is not perfect (no organization is) but it is what we have now for registered targets. If someone wants to start a new organization that’s going to be better, I’ll join- like I said in my initial post that really seemed to get under your skin.

You should have just said, “I don’t think there should be a new organization, I like it just the way it is” in your first post.

It was NEVER perfect. But it was a 1000% better than it is now. Now it just SUCKS. And you fit in with all the excuse makers that think it doesn’t.

I’m sure I’m not just breaking even. And even if I was, it would still be better than giving the ata one cent.

Newsflash, there are THOUSANDS of people still shooting. They just don’t pay the ata dues and fees.

Jumping to conclusions there, aren’t you? About the current members that are still shooting, anyway- you can have whatever opinions you want, but you’re painting with a pretty broad brush for others. Is it as good as it used to be? No. Can it be improved? Absolutely. Would another organization giving the ATA competition be good? I think so, competition is usually always good for the consumer.


So it seems like we may have found some common ground there. I enjoy shooting, so I still do that. If you don’t, that’s fine. I said I would join a new organization if Jim started one in my first response here. You said why don’t I start one- in your first reply here, since you felt free to do that- how about I ask you to do something that you feel would make the ATA better, instead of just complaining about how it’s ruined.

 

I NEVER jump to conclusions. Someone would have to be a complete moron to not see the drastic decline in the number of register shooters since the "we know better than you crowd" moved the biggest shoot of the year.

I didn't leave the ata. The ata left me.

For years I shot thousands of targets every year, the average year was 4000 singles, 3000 caps and 2500 doubles, We traveled to all the local clubs on weekends, the zone shoot, the PA , OH, WV, VA, State shoots, anywhere that threw registered targets so I had enough targets to shoot the GRAND in VANDALIA. I spent every cent I could on shooting or components to shoot registered targets. I took a loan from the credit union every year to pay for the week at Vandalia. Hell, I wrote a few checks for smaller local shoots knowing I didn't have the money to cover it unless I won. I never bounced a check.

I was on the BOD of our club 6 times and helped run all the registered shoots we had. And we had 8-9 a year. Those shoots and the others at 10 or more clubs in SWPA are what got us enough targets. NOW? it's tough to find 3 clubs that still throw registered targets. WHY? because hardly any people need them. WHY? Because they DON'T GO TO THAT PLACE IN ILLnews.

When the idiots moved the grand, against the members wishes, I quit paying them their dues and fees. So I DON'T CARE WHAT THOSE MORONS DO. I hope to God they stay at that White elephant in ILLnews and see the same low numbers every year forever. Go join in. You can all talk about how great the ata is.

THOUSANDS of us remember how great it WAS. What are the numbers for the GAH event since the bozos moved the grand? Dismal is a good word. PATHETIC is better. They screwed the pooch and won't admit it.

My initial post to you was as a moderator reading what was a sarcastic post by you. There was no need for you to tell Jim he should start a different organization.

Speaking about facts- the numbers you gave on the average amount of targets you shot…were you saying those were the average number of registered targets you shot in each discipline? Here is my current opinion ... FWIW

I recently shot the handicap all 4 days of Middletown's Fall Shoot ... and ...

The first day I spoke with the new Club Manager, and, nice guy who put on a good shoot.

So, after the 4 days of shooting, unlike cyber-gripe, I will say a few things about "making Trapshooting great again" ...

First ... The idea you can boycott the way better days is not going to happen ... because ... many of the current shooters did not shoot during the Golden Years, so they don't know and don't care, they are there for a good time ...

Many of the old faces I shot with are now gone ... buy many new faces I met, and shot with, are good people also ...

I don't have to like everything ATA to participate with many new people, who are as great as those I remember fondly ...

Again ... there are many things in life I don't like ... but ... letting them prevent my having a good time is silly on my part ...

So ... cyber-gripe and boycotts has had zero results ... at least talking, in person, to the Club Managers and ATA Officials may be a better way ...

Yeah, they were registered targets. And even after shooting that much, when the brain BUST running the ata moved the grand I quit. Along with the thousands of other people.
I did keep the Silverware trophy from the Grand in Vandalia. Just to remind me how well I shot and how great those days were.

The first year I went to the Missouri Fall Handicap ... 25's were paying in the hundreds, and 50's were paying over a thousand, and a 'win' was enough to cover the trip, eat well while there, and have some change left over ..... Was that hell no to you shooting more than 100 targets between 2000 and 2005? We didn’t even know the Grand was moving to Sparta in 2000, just that it had to move, the ATA didn’t have anything to do with having to move- their lease wasn’t being renewed. I agree that it was disheartening to know that Vandalia would be no more, but like you said about all the state shoots and Zone shoots were still available, not to mention the local shoots.

I’m happy you’re making money at the casinos- that’s great. I work to make my money, I don’t need my hobbies to supplement my income. I agree the payouts were better before at trap shoots, and that was better for the sport as evidenced by the Back Fence shootout events at the Cardinal Center and Nevada- I wouldn’t mind seeing some ATA events with compulsory purses to see how that would go.

I retired in 2018. I don’t need to supplement anything. Do you know what the word “comped” means?

We haven’t paid for a room, food, or drinks in 40 years at casinos in Vegas, AC, or the Bahamas. 12 years in a row to the Atlantis before the crapdemic. The Cove at the Atlantis was $1300.00 per night. 5 nights, $150 per day in food, and $200 per day in “free play”. IF we lost $2000.00 we were still way ahead. And that’s IF. The last trip in 2019 I cleared $6000. And that’s not counting the 6 local places we visit.
You keep paying the dues and fees. I pass.

 

Again ..... good for you .... your money and your time ....

But .... If you have zero interest in Trapshooting, why hang around a Trapshooting site and run people off ???????

Interesting post- you don’t need to supplement your income but you seem very motivated by hobbies that bring money back to you, or get free (IE- comped) amenities. So, let me ask you this- when the ATA was in its heyday- were you making money shooting? I don’t mean did you ever come away from one shoot making more money than you spent, but consistently like you do now with the casinos? If you did, you should have shot more- you must have enjoyed the hobby and were achieving your goal of making additional money from your hobby. If you didn’t, what changed for you other than the Grand went further away? That shouldn’t have been too drastic for you, either- since you shot 100 targets (total, in all ATA shoots)- the last 5 years the Grand was still in Vandalia.

Never been inside a casino to play slots have you? You don't have the foggiest idea what you are talking about. You can bet up to $20.00 a spin on certain one cent denomination machines. And I'm not the ONLY player to make money playing slots. Never said I was. Do a little research and watch the people on YouTube that quit their jobs to play slots. This isn't the 1950's when the slots were for the wives to play while the husbands played table games.

It never ceases to amaze me, and make me laugh, at the people that think they know anything about casinos but wouldn't know a slot machine from a toaster.
In fact, trying to explain it to some people is like talking to a toaster.

And for some dumbass reason you tell me your “buddies” have cars worth more.
OK, what has that have to do with how much I’ve won? They drive to shoots, I drive, or fly, to casinos.

Since you don’t know Jack about today’s slots and it’s a lock on my part, I’ll bet you that before fauci shut down everything we, my wife and I, had $53,000 in hand pays one year and $48,000.00 the next.

Take the bet, make it public on here, and I’ll PM you a copy of both tax returns.
Then you come on here and tell everyone you lost , was completely wrong, and should never had said anything about something you really knew nothing about.
As that old saying goes, make it easy on yourself. Since you spend so much money on those cigars what do you say to a $500.00 bet?

BTW, we didn’t have to pay a cent in taxes on any of that money. Since you know everything about casinos how do you think that was possible?

I don’t know the odds of hitting ANOTHER lottery.
In 1992 I hit the PA lottery for $60,621 and change. You want to make another bet about that?
Besides, the lotto is 100% LUCK. Playing today’s slot machines isn’t. If it was, I would’ve have won $40,000.00 so far this year.
