I have been looking for a gun for my 10 year old son to trap shoot with. I ran across a 1187 premiere trap with a 30" light contour barrel with chokes and 13" LOP. From what ive read the premiere trap came with a target barrel for 2 3/4" shells only. Is the Light Contour barrel ok to put on the premiere trap? Would this be a good setup for a small frame 10 year old considering the lighter barrel? Or would this be a cobbled mess better left alone? Thanks for any input or help
The barrel doesn't have much to do with the issue. Fit is number one. Fumbling around with a semi auto is more to worry about. i see some great SCTP shooters with semi autos. They are all good guns. Be prepared to add spacers on the stock.
I don't know how long your young fellow will be shooting the 1187. But they are more problematic than the 1100's were. Nothing major, but be prepared for minor parts replacement.
I wanted to get him something with low recoil for now since he is small framed. He had a pointer before with 28" barrel but it was beating him up. I seen the gun listed and thought it may be good for him but was concerned about the light contour barrel on the trap receiver. I appreciate the inputs and replies.
Get hime a short barreled o/u 28-30" and make sure a PFS will work for the gun, this way the stock can adjust as he grows
1187s run softer, but they can be finicky. Just keep up with O-rings and cleaning, and it’ll serve him well.
To long for short kids. Kicked one of the line shootings doubles. Was loading and closing the gun with the barrel on the rest.
If you meant you kicked one OFF the line for loading and closing with the barrel on a rest- not the fault of the gun, it was the moron using it. And if it was a kid, the fault of whoever sent them out with an 1100/1187 and didn’t tell teach them well enough to not know better.
High school coach/FFA teach, and I had a discussion. caught a double barrel shooter doing the same thing. Both cases gun was too big for the kid.
