I live in an area where 3 states come together. Ohio, Ky. and Indiana. We usually shoot for prize money and the competition is pretty stiff. You will see many of our local shooters on the leader boards throughout the country. I'm a little partial to Ky.

@. the souther zone, its a no contest--Kentucky kicks butt. big time, Fl, Ga., Bama, NC, SC, & MS don't have a chance

OH and AP definitely have strong competition, but KY consistently produces shooters that can hang with anyone nationally.

Wisconsin --We throw the best party's -don't have to be a great shooter to have fun up in Wisconsin. Just got done with the largest team shoot, free sweet corn all day and a shooters meal at the end of the day.

Shot a 100 bird Sunday at Jonesdale Sportsman club, Thier Raffle was $1200 or a pallet of beer, That figured out to be a six pack a day for a year. that's how we do it in Wisconsin.

I have not been to one of your parties and I don't doubt that they are great and maybe sometime I will be able to attend. The best trapshooting parties I was ever privileged to attend were the day in and day out almost mandatory Beer Stand experiences during the Ohio State and Grand American Trapshoots. 2 others that come to mind were the Joe Powell beef roasts one during the Indiana State Shoot and one during the Grand. These took place back in about 1985 or so. Actually most any trapshoot that you are able to attend is normally a pretty good party in it's own right. Just my opinion!!!

There is no single state with the "best" trap shooters, but i would say states like lllinois and Missouri as hubs for the sport due to large shooting events, while top-level shooters can come from anywhere.

Some of the best memories from trapshoots aren’t just the shooting, they’re the camaraderie and the little traditions like the Beer Stands or the cookouts. Sounds like Wisconsin throws a great event too!

Many of Ohio's best don't shoot registered.

Kentucky would be the same, I've been told by a friend in Kentucky that for every 10 shooters only about 2 or three of them shoot ATA, the rest shoot games. Don't know if it's true, but thats what I've been told. Who can blame them?

I was told by Nora Ross that there were a bunch of Kentucky shooters who could win the GAH, if they ever wanted to go for it

Shooters are so good in PA and WV they had some shooters that could score their own without shooting. Remember that AAA 20 yard shooter that won the GAH.

He was an 18 yd shooter, had several thousand handicap targets that year without a punch, he was shooting a K 80, played every option had a 100 straight from the 18 + 50 more in a shoot off-should have been given a bag of sand instead of the GAH ring

Are we talking about shooter with the best scores? I see many big guns pull in, shoot, check the board and down the road they go. In my book, the best shooter is the shooters that shows up and supports the local club even if his score wasn't the best. He is the guy that is keep small cubs going.

I always wondered if the “winner”, Adam Stefkovich, split the money three ways between himself and the other two guys that faked all the scores they turned in. Without them he couldn’t have turned in those thousands of targets.

PA has the most shooters and by far, the most trap clubs (one behind every stump) and throwing the most targets of any state; so it logically follows that PA would have the best shooters. Not only that, we're better looking and have the best football team! :p

Mike what is the total number of operating gun clubs in each state and what is the total number of targets thrown in each state? Just wondering.

The late Greg Dawson from Dawson Enterprises told me only one in nine targets in Ohio are registered. That was 15 years ago. Registered trapshooting was an after thought then. There are some great shooters in the State that have never been to the Cardinal Center. Many left the registered shoot arena when trapshooting left Vandalia.

    How do you measure that?

I retract the wild claim about the best football team; but we have the best shooters and are, by far, the best looking.

I always thought PA had tough shooters and if you won something there you did good.

Before they started all the “banks” and pay to play preferential treatment and the line made a turn at the practice traps, shooting a hundred targets at Elysburg was like shooting in four different time zones.
