I've been making calls and asking what I believe are the right questions and so far the results are pretty interesting. I guess the ATA is very concerned with getting the correct information out to the shooters so they will be making a very important announcement. When? Well, I'm not sure as I'm not authorized to have that information. Are the ATA, IDNR and Illinois officials currently involved in negoiations? I think so but once again only a small number of the inner circle are currently allowed in any discussion. Will the Grand be held in Sparta? Why, yes of course it will be, unless something happens. Shooters will be advised at the appropriate time, which hasn't been determined as yet. Is there a back up plan? There is currently no backup plan as one is not needed. If one becomes needed, which is a very remote possibility, it will be discussed by the appropriate people at the appropriate time. The waiting list for camping spots is growing every day and is now over 50. Those on the waiting list will be notified if spots become available once renewals are over. How are renewals going? Again, not authorized to have that information. Are the vendors all renewing? Yes, the vendors are very happy and look forward to long continued lease agreements. Although as of today things are still being ironed out. Well, that's all I've got so far but with this new information we are all now better informed and can rest easy. I planned on follow up calls in a week or so but I've been advised not to bother as they'll call me if anything I'm authorized to know happens so I can go about other business and dispense with worries regarding anything ATA related. It's all good!

As of yet, I'll probably skip the 2016 Pseudo Grand until a regime change takes place. My big August shoot will be the CC.

It will be interesting to see what and how it all happens , the costs and who pays what to whom ... The ATA is obligated to have a grand according to what Lynn (The talking head ) Gipson said in one of his many interviews , they owe it to the members (who attend) so cost should not even be discussed and or considered ... The State of Illinois is dead in the water so the ATA is obviously going to step up and absorb the costs which should sit well with those members who choose to not attend but pay for it in a round about way ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Seitz hit the nail on the head.

The WSRC is the home of the grand and 2016 will be a great shoot.

Kastaway is right by default. Ohio said no. Illinois said no. But Illinois has the oft mentioned anchor baby. The $2.1 mil horse barn....less the hay and twice the shit.

Will they have 1.000 shooters. Probably no vendors.

I hope it goes well, the State of Illinois has not committed to anything on any of the web sites where it can be confirmed or disputed if that means anything ... If the ATA picks up the tab there would be no reason to not have the grand at the WSRC unless there are complications due to the Unions involved and their labor forces ... The State cannot afford to continue adding to the deficit that already exists and is not being attended to being as they have already lost over 23 Million tax payer dollars in 11 years on the deal ... It will be interesting to see how it all pans out, best of luck either way ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

I don't believe the vendors are jumping to re up for another multi year lease. I've spoken with a couple that are considering the value of having a spot for two weeks versus the cost and I'm not sure they are seeing the value. There's a chance you will probably see a couple move down to the vendor row where they pay by the year. Time will tell.

I respectfully disagree greta. We get what we deserve. The direction of the ATA has been going down the rabbit hole for many years now. All peace and quiet will accomplish is more of the same. History tells us that vocal discord, other then military intervention, is the primary means of change for any organization be it a country, political party or group such as weight watchers. [ those folks get angry when they are hungry]

The trick here is the manner of the discord. Fanatical ravings of discontent are easily dismissed by the powers that be as the work of a group of fringe lunatics. That perception will only hurt the chance for change. You need to win their hearts and minds presenting a clear and precise message that the population will identify with and rally to the cause.

Of course we are talking about trapshooters here so I guess all bets are off, lol.

I have been shooting only ATA targets and will continue to do so till i give out..

We are all entitled to our opinions.

There are good and bad in every organization.

Remember the good ole days when women shooters were not treated fairly, times have changed and I still have
    Good hopes for the ATA.

If no ATA targets are thrown, i will volunteer and score or do any thing to be helpful.
but the ATA was and is a large part of my Life.

    Greta,

The ATA has been a large part of many of our lives. When a cancer sets in any body it is either removed or the body dies. The ATA is in this situation as of now. It now depends on the resolve of the supporting members to either save or let the patient die. The decision is up to the members, they either see the need for a change or do nothing and watch our noble sport fade into oblivion. I'm not sure how to get the membership interested in the saving process, it may not be possible as many do not want to see the problems with the organization. Roger C.

What are all of you people missing ???

I just now went to the www.Shootata.com web site, and the header STATES:

117th Grand American will be August 3-13, 2016

    Sparta, Ill. !!!!!

That should be proof enough for all the naysayers...

The ATA would Never put out false information on their web site !

I am just telling it as it states, so we can all go back to having a good time on here and not worry any more about these ATA rumors of not being held there in 2016.

PS: the horse barn will be full too...

Of what I am not sure, but it will be full !!!

The EC has no where to turn. OH does not want the rats on their new ship. The gun hate state may be the best they can do.

I'm sorry, you have to see how a few members of the ATA, and mostly non members speak. Go on doing what you love, naysayers be damned.

The only thing we can do at this time Is to wait and see and enjoy our
    Shooting time till then.
For me, it just too far for me to go, but Sparta is a wonderful facility
Probably the best I ever saw and I am so sorry it is just too far for
This old lady to get to.
I hope the shoot is a bang up success and for now I will enjoy the
    Winter shooting in Florida.
