Category change needed

There should be a category for shooters 80-85, & a category for shooters 86 +, they can do away with sub vet & jr gold --older shooters need a letup IMHO I'm 82.5

Its not about solving anything its equity--older shooters have the time & $$ to participate, the state of Illinois has an elder class @ their stay shoot. Also older shooters are & were responsible for keeping the ATA alive.

 

He didn’t- that was my tongue in cheek way of saying that won’t fix anything.

 

Equity? There are already 3 classes for people over a certain age (4 if you include Lady II)- if you aren’t competitive in Sr Vet, giving more participation trophies isn’t the answer. Plus- does someone over the age of 80, let alone 85 really need a trophy? The more trophies/classes the more expensive it is for shoot management to put on a shoot, and with attendance going where it is- that’s the LAST thing the ATA or ATA clubs need. I’m all for doing away with categories, but not adding any additional ones.

 

The most important thing is to save trapshooting before, we all become sporting clays shooters--in Fl.sporting clays is eclipsing trap shooting--every Sun a local Sporting clays club has about 500 shooters & they throw 4 million targets a year & not bad @ 60 cents/ per target for non -members , & $40.00 golf cart rental for non-members--$20.00 gun rental for a Beretta A-300-- they are racking shooters in

 

He is not adding any additional categories, but rearranging the age grouping and eliminating some categories but I guess that challenges your reading comprehension.

 

I understand what he was saying…I don’t agree with it. Anyone that wants anything other than less categories for ATA shoots…isn’t thinking correctly, or hasn’t looked at attendance numbers for ATA shoots lately.

A category for shooters specifically between 80 and 85, and one for shooters over the age of 86…yeah, if you’re shooting at that age, it’s all about the trophies then, isn’t it? Maybe the points are more important because of course there would be corresponding All-American teams with those categories, too, right?

 

Its not about All-American points , above the age of 80, its a pain to travel to the different venues, but @ least you can be competitive for state shoot trophies except in Fl, where sr. vet is the the toughest category only event I shoot in is handicap & I do not declare

 

Another stupid idea. How about a cat for one bald, one eyed, ex men now women shooters?

 

They could get rid of all lady class ,no difference in a man or a woman pulling a trigger.

Our late friend, Aden Kaufman, once told me there should only be 5 trophies; Champion, Runner Up, Lady, Kid and Old Guy. Period! Much like you, Aden said if you want a trophy, shoot better. Can you imagine the squawking from today’s shooters if there were only 5 pink ribbons awarded per event? Oh the horror!

 

Don, don't you understand? Poor Johnny always needs a ribbon. Maybe shoot management could have an option called trophy and if you feel like you really need a trophy you could enter this option (lets say $20.00)and they could have a supply of the cute little flashlights that everyone wanted to win for each trophy option entry. Don't you think that would everyone happy? Problem solved. LOL

When I complained about the free reductions they handed out a high ranking ATA guy told me that we are now in a people pleasing business. Just like T Ball everyone gets a prize

 

Didn’t they do that twice? Not everyone was lucky enough to get those free 2 yard passes! For last 30 or so years there has been an obvious push to make trapshooting less about money and more about social interaction and recognition. Sad.

 

They did do it twice and some got three yards off as they already had one in the mail. Plus they allow trap resets to suit everyone’s preference. That is unfair in a tournament.

 

During an Ohio State shoot, Ricky Marshall found me after completing his first 100 singles. He told me his last trap was throwing some wild right targets. I asked him if he called for a reset and he said trap is an outside sport, he just shoots them wherever they are thrown. He actually said something else about the logo on his shirt reads Nebraska, not….. We checked the trap and sure enough one of the limits was loose and the machine was traveling way too far to the right. Ricky is definitely one of the best guys you’ll ever meet shooting trap!

$20 for a trophy is by far more then what most trophy's being handed out are worth. So very sad.
