Reviews about Tri Star Reliability

Discussion in 'Trapshooting Forum - Americantrapshooter.com' started by Mike n Missouri, Mar 1, 2025.

  1. The designs on these guns look good. There is a bunch on the SCTP circuit but I am interested in reliability reviews and impact point.

Are they patterning where they are supposed to and what is the reliability expectations?

I have a few kids in the family ready to make the move to the sport.

    Thanks in advance.

Shot to high. As reliability it is it either works good or they have issues from my experience

The technology about shotguns isn't very complicated. They have a pipe like devise with an explosion at one end. They all shoot the same ammo. Triggers vary. There have been some perfect scores with 1100s.

The “Big Guy” shot his two pretty well. And in one of those articles in the old magazine he said the only difference between them was his doubles 1100 had a stock 1/4” shorter than the one he used for singles and caps.

I had a Tri-Star O/U five years ago. It was nothing but trouble and traded it in. Don't know much about their semi-autos or pumps.

I bought a top mono when they first came out for my grandson when he was 14..it has been as reliable and he has shot good scores with it including some registered targets ..he is 21 now and still shoots it occasionally ..like someone above said it's and entry level gun not designed to shoot 5000 rounds a year thru. I will say that I see a lot of them at FFA trapshoots and registered shoots and kids seem to shoot them pretty well, probably much better than they would a field gun which is at the same price range. I have the TT15 trap single and I like it. The only negative I can give mine is the wood and steel finish is a little fragile and mars easily.

Reports on TriStar shotguns are all over the place.
Ya' spends yer money and ya' takes yer chances.
I had a TriStar Setter some years ago (won it at a DU dinner, as I recall). Shot half a box of shells through it and sold it.
Pretty gun it was. Just not the same quality as a Browning or Beretta, let alone a Kolar or Perazzi.

I own three of the Viper G2 semiautos. 28, 20 and 16 gauges. Beautiful wood, point great and function flawlessly as long as you do not go more than 300 rounds between cleanings. That might sound like a lot of rounds to some people but it is not. They get very dirty very quickly. You have to do the break-in that is recommended. I bought mine to shoot skeet and sub gauge sporting. So some days there are quite a few rounds put through them. Break it down in the back of the van and give it a quick clean and it is good to go. I have not had any failures to feed, fire or eject.

I had one of the Setter o/u’s and it was nothing but problems. I have a friend who has one of the TT-15 trap combos. He shoots it quite a bit and has had zero problems. I think he has had it three or four years. It has been very reliable for him. I looked at the unsingle yesterday at Shelby and it looked solid. The adjustable rib seemed much better than when they first came out. If you are looking for a reliable less expensive option I would look at SKB. Several kids on my team shoot them and they have been flawless.

Many of our youth shooter are going with Tri stars for adjustability .With three inches of spacers for length of pull and adjustable ribs makes a gun that a ten year old shoots and still will fit him at 18. If it holds up that long?

Why is it we continue to see posts either inquiring about reliability or those telling us they are the best money can buy? Believe what you want, Tri-Star is junk at any price. Do the math; they will cost you more in percentage of money lost owning one than a high condition used K-80/K-32. If that fact can't be understood, please buy all the Tri-Star shotguns you can find so we won't have to be asked the same silly question over and over.

You should have stopped with “Believe what you want “.
