What can I expect at the Ohio and Kentucky State Shoots.

If things work out and I should be home in Kentucky and want to take advantage of those State Shoots. Just how accommodating/access are they for wheelchair shooters. Hotel suggestions for the Ohio Shoot. Shells for sell and any other info you can think of. Thanks in advance.

look up"The Cardinal Center" on utube....very good video of grounds for the Ohio State shoot. Lots of hotel chains about 20 mi south on I71 @Polaris park exit.I believe it is Family Guy who has details on a motel 30 miles north that has $29.95 shooter rates.

    LadyT,
I have not made it to the Kentucky State shoot yet, but it's on my bucket list. I can answer your questions as they pertain to the Ohio State shoot. There are at least two vendors that sell shells on the grounds, sometimes more. As blf3 stated, the Polaris exit has LOTS of hotels. However, there are also hotels closer than the Polaris exit located one exit south of the Cardinal Center (roughly 10 miles). An Internet search will also show many more hotel rooms in the area surrounding the Cardinal Center.
I will do my best to talk about wheelchair accessibility. I know that folks in wheelchairs face barriers that most of us simply overlook as problems. I believe the Cardinal Center to be relatively wheelchair friendly. Ziggy T. is usually in attendance and he would be able to tell you what, if any, barriers he deals with at the Cardinal. There is road access for handicapped persons directly behind the trap line. To the best of my recollection there aren't any stairs to navigate anywhere on the grounds. I hope you can make it to both the Ky and Oh state shoots this year!

The Ohio State Shoot has more parking with less mud, but I would not rate either as an "A+" for a wheelchair.

Watch the weather at both places, because rain equals mud, and mud would make it hard for a wheelchair away from the CEB at both places.

    Lady T,

Pre squad at Cardinal and ask for banks one of two. They are easy to get to. If you require help ask any of the shooters, I'm sure they will help you navigate to your field. You could also call the club and tell them the situation and they will assist you. Roger C.

I would venture to say you will not have a problem finding someone to give you a little added assistance if needed though you may have to ask ... I attempted to help a lady put her grocery's in her car at the store and she get very indignant with me, asked me if she looked like she needed help ..? I apologized and told her to have a nice day , said I was only trying to help not that she needed it but to make me feel good ... I will help anyone but to keep from insulting them, only if they ask ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

This is such a strange time to be living in...we are afraid to accept help
From people we do not know, scared that we may be mugged or
Car jacked. This is a true fact, very sad..but true. I have refused help
Many times when I really needed it.

    Greta c,

You are correct to keep your guard up. Some times we must rely on our instincts to direct us. A lot depends on the situation as to should we take the offered help or refuse. When at a trap shoot with many people around an offer of help is most likely sincere. Roger C.

WPT it's not you. By letting someone help its just further affirmation that the disabled individual is losing more of their independence. Something no individual wants to face. A loss of independence is something you never want to experience. It cuts to your very core and is very difficult to overcome to impossible to overcome. It's a battle you cannot win no matter how hard you try. Now you can decide to give up or you can fight for every single little bit of independence you have left. If the person fights the loss of their independence people like you who offered to help will get the reaction you did when you offered to help the lady with her groceries. Understand she wasn't upset with you but at herself. It's a very very fine line to walk especially when it comes to something as simple as doing your own grocery shopping. Thanks for your offering to help her out.

the small gravel between stations at the cardinal can be a pain, take your time when moving and stay on the walks and you should be ok. No steps or large grades, but the vendor building doors and the CEB doors are kind of hard to get into. You will enjoy yourself!

Lady T I personally know what you mean as losing my left foot April 14th 2015 and getting my Permanent Prosthessis November 12th 2015, just shot my first what I feel are my stabilized buddy shoot last Friday night and we broke all 10s, but I lost the shootoffs, not my partner, it was me not being stable on uneven ground. Wheel chair bound is really bad, cannot negotiate Gravel at CC between Vendor Buildings, I know I was once whellchair bound at the Ohio State Shoot. I hope things get better for you.
