Starting to reload AA 20 Ga shells 7/8 oz, using Win 572 powder with CB1078 wads. Having a problem with the height of components being slightly two low. Has anyone used this combination successfully?
Are you loading on a mec 600. If you are crushing shells raise cam on final crimp. There is a great video on final crimp adjustments on YouTube.
Using MEC 9000. Not crushing shells, the middle is just dished in too much. My need to check that I am not pushing too hard down on the wad. It just don't seem that when it drops the shot that it comes up as high as it should. I have done a lot of reloading with my 12 ga 9000, but just set up this used 20 ga. reloader
I load different types of hulls but absolutely hate to have to adjust my reloader when I don’t get a clean closed crimp. Not a solution to correct the issue - but a simple fix is to just add a soup bean to each hull before crimp stage (shell plate position 4) after dropping the shot in. This will either close off the opening or “plug” the opening. Ask me how I know.
I have four Mec 600 Jr's . . . a 12, a 20, a 28, and a .410. Back in the good old days - pre-1995 - when shot, primers and wads were cheap, reloading shot-shells was productive and made a lot of sense. Today, you can buy 12 and 20 gauge shells cheaper than you can reload them and it's really just wasted effort except for the 28 and .410. If your determined to try it, hustle up a few hundred once-fired Winchester AA hulls and have at it. Reloading any other brand of hull is a lost cause.
I am not sure I agree. It cost me about $70 to load a case of 12 ga. It cost between $85 and $90 with tax and free shipping for promo shells and about $110 for good shells comparable to what I am loading. I can always have to load I want available to me. To be honest with what I have reading about QC on factory shells the reloads are better quality.
