I talked to Jake at the Cardinal Center this morning. It doesn’t look like drawing for banks will be done this year. It was kicked around but so far the answer is no.

I was surprised to hear preregistration is up.

I’m not really sure if I’ll shoot at the Cardinal if they are not gonna draw banks. All
the good banks will be long gone by the time the shoot rolls around.

Trap shooters are turning into a bunch of whiners. They complain about all banks are not good. the back ground is bad. You are starting to sound like a bunch of wimps. The targets are to wide, they are to fast. My God put you big boy pants on and shoot. Roger C.

This would be the appropriate response if the back ground was equal across all of the banks

Hey Roger, Bite me. It would be different if like Goat said the background was even somewhat
close but it’s not. I shoot at my State shoot in Indiana and shoot looking at he Electrical plant
a lot but at least they draw for banks. All you do is argue with people on here why don’t you
try being constructive once in a while.

And while I'm thinking about it,

I remember when all you heard from anyone, after the laughter stopped, was

    Hey Bud, how'd you do?
    Not bad, had a 98.
Really? What happened with the other two?
Well, I wasn't paying attention and one flew right in line with that smokestack, the one that is about two miles away, and the other one went right in line with the power lines.
Really? You're going to blame those two losses on that?
Well, yeah, I have to blame it on something. You don't really think I'm going to blame myself for losing my concentration, do you?
    That would be just stupid.

Touched a nerve did I. ED the back ground, and the bank numbers are not the problem, the lack of ability to adjust to different than imperfect conditions
on the line is. Roger C.

You need to move to AZ and shoot targets over miles of sand and an occasional cactus instead of complaining about Ohio targets. Afterall, what's a few banks of trees 50 yards form where targets land and a few openings in the sky where they streak in and out. Real shooters just man up and shoot-except the prima donnas who always seem to get the best banks.

GOAT123 My question is which is the magical bank that everyone prefers? If you poled 100 shooters I'm sure that at least someone would pick each of the 12 banks. If you have a favorite area to shoot you have 4 choices to pick from if you pre squad and if you don't just do the best you can after spending some time standing in line. Just my opinion.

Fellow member Shamus and I always said that the targets thrown at Vandalia were the best targets we saw all year.

Elysburg, before all this bank stuff came about, was like shooting in four different time zones. The local clubs we shot at to get enough targets had some "interesting" backgrounds. Smokestacks, high tension electric towers, trailer parks with multicolored trailers, trees that had 90% of their leaves shot away, hillsides that went up 70 yards from the trap, trap fields where station 5 was a foot higher than station 1, 27 yard pads that were just 2 pieces of concrete the club bought at Home Depot. No sand under them, just 2 pieces sitting on the grass. And God forbid you get in a shoot off under the "lights".

The standard answer, and back then not a lot of people complained, was, The targets are 50 yards dead nuts and 10 ft high on the T bar. Shoot em"

I shot at a club called, The Gun Club. I think it was in Reno, for a lot of money. When on post one the trees were so close if you did not kill a hard left very quick it did not matter if you hit it or not, if it got in the trees, it was called lost. No one ever bitched about the rule or the trees, can you imagine the whining if these shooters had to shoot under those conditions. And that was over hand pullers. But the targets were set 10 ft. high and 50 yrds long.
We all went there to shoot, and win, we didn't whine about the difficult conditions. those were some of the best days of trap shooting. Roger C.

Why is it the old , always new the past is better than the present? Trapshooters have always bitched and whined

goat, Maybe the people you shot with, but not all shooters whined. The old timers I shot with shot what ever came out of the house. As long as they were set by the book, what ever happened to them after that we shot. you never heard we have a bad bank. they are to wide, they are to fast, that was not in our vocabulary.
The bank system could be eliminated that would mean no more bad banks, start a move to do away with the bank system if you think that would be fairer.
I would vote for it. Roger C.

I'm just curious. In another one of your twenty-two posts you used the word "old" when referring to Jack Fishburn.

"Typical head in the sand attitude. The old man is dead so everything will be the same for the next 15 years"

    And then again here

"Why is it the old , always new the past is better than the present? Trapshooters have always bitched and whined"

In your mind, how old, is old? I'm not saying you can't have an opinion, like I said, just curious. And BTW, those "old" shooters built the sport into what WAS once a great organization. I would argue that the "younger" people that came along later turned it into something not so great.

In the words of the great "older" shooter Roger Smith, they were the Golden Years.

You ain’t focused on targets much less breaking them! Lol, come up with a better excuse
for your piss poor non-winning score

In 1995, we installed a 5-Stand at our club. You could see the houses for 3 of the 8 machines from the Trap fields. They were well away from where the Trap targets flew or landed, but you could see them. One of the members, a multi time PA state team member and a hell of a shot in his own right was upset that you could see the houses.
At one of the registered shoots, we had 6-7 a year along with a registered 500 bird marathon, this AA shooter asked another AA shooter from a different club (you would all recognize his name) If those houses bothered him when he was shooting.

    His answer,
"They don't bother me at all...... But if they bother you, I have you beat already."

That man was very tuned in. Trap is a physical game and very important mental game. 90% of people can master the physical and mental part, but only 10% can master both at the same time 95% of the time.
50% of readers will not understand what I stated. Roger C.

Funny, you old guys let the sport fall , you were the leaders and power holders. Us young guys had no power . So sorry you all let this happen,

    Interesting statement.....

You claim to be younger and the situation is getting worse. Please tell how you have been helping.

The ATA is not a one person, one vote organization. The big states, Ohio and PA's members actually have the smallest amount of power per person. Rhode Island may only have had 15 shooters when Ohio and PA had 50,000 between the two states.
Rhode Island's 15 shooters had the same power between the 15 as all of the shooters collectively in Ohio or PA. Vote wise, OH and PA members are a pimple on a pig's ass.

Despite having 2/3 of the shooters between them, OH and PA have less than 2% of the vote.

An ex ATA creep, Neil Winston, exploited that rather successfully. He wasn't alone. Back deals were made.

I was one of those that thought the ATA would take care of itself. How bad could it get? I just wanted to shoot. I blinked and here we are. The ATA resides in a gun hate and it appears the contents of the HOF Museum belongs to Illinois.

Only one in 8 targets thrown in Ohio is registered. Trapshooting won't die in PA either. The ATA deserves to founder. Not my problem. Ask Rhode Island and Mississippi to fix it. They have more power.

Another note to GOAT. The Ohio and PA shooters didn't sit on their asses when the move to the gun hate state came about.

The Cardinal Center threw registered targets before Sparta.

Add to that a small group of folks that care for the sport started their own trapshooting website. It is now the most read shotgun site. Now finish tell us what you are doing for the sport.

Old wannabe former trapshooters are still bitching but at least some of us are still shooting regardless of age and infirmities. If you no longer have skin in the game just spend the rest of your life in front of the TV with your wife bitching at you. Meanwhile, I'm going out trapshooting this morning and beating up on some of the youngsters.
