What is it you expected from him or from the current President? Maybe the new guy will dismantle the ATA and redistribute the wealth back to the membership then get out of the way and create utopia based in Ohio of course.

I can appreciate the sarcasm. Especially the part you had to throw in there about Ohio. I like to write using it too.
We know the ata pres can't do anything, why would he want to?

As far as Ohio being the utopia?
ANYWHERE would be considered utopia compared to that white elephant they built at the place in ILLnews

BTW, I'm not in OH. I live even farther away for that place. AND, as I said 7 years ago, I hope they stay there forever.

Just seems to be a lot of ATA bashing. If you want to see a poorly ran organization go out west and shoot some of the state shoots or The Grand Pacific. The ATA has issues but compared to the PITA the ATA is golden.

Yeah, issues. Like the lack of shooters for what was once THE premier shoot of the year. Long before the crapdemic, brandon, and supply chain problems that place couldn't draw a crowd. Yep, issues

Flyersarebest take a look at the Grand Pacific program and purses! The ATA is no where near perfect but it is the best available. Old saying rings true, you’re either rowing or rocking the boat.

    Hi Deadlost
Tel me one thing you know your delegate voted for or against this year.

Or, you get off the boat before it completely sinks. Thousands of members heard the cry,
    Abandon Ship...and did just that

    “The best available”
That’s like me saying that a casino really sucks and doesn’t pay out much but it’s the only one around, so it’s the “best available”

    Rowing or rocking the boat
Reminds me of the scene in Ben Hur where they were all chained to the boat and had to row while the head honcho yelled at them to row faster!

I have a T shirt that pretty much covers the ata since they screwed the pooch.
    On the back it says

The beatings will continue until moral improves

I don’t get it, honestly. You hate the ATA and bash the organization whenever possible. I have not seen any, any suggestions or changes to make the organization or trapshooting better, more enjoyable or to attract/retain shooters. Ya’all go on and on about closing Vandalia, moving the home grounds to Sparta, the beloved three hole target and how the Cardinal Center is utopia. How does that promote trapshooting, attract or retain people to the sport? With the collective brain power on this site start a new organization with new rules and regs. Seems that what professional golf is trying to do. Stop bitching and do something constructive that actually helps the sport.

Ya’all kinda sound like, read the program, paid the required money, shot like shit, didn’t win any money and didn’t get a participation trophy so I won’t be back. It must be the organizations fault.

poor attendance? Anyone heard of Covid, shell and components shortages, supply line issues, inflation, high fuel costs. Does anyone think that maybe those contribute to poor attendance. By the numbers posted here on attendance at CC, all venues are suffering attendance. But of course it must be the ATA as to why attendance is down.

want change, I mean if you really want change get voted on the EC or as a delegate. Create the change you want. Or, just keep doing what you’re doing, sit and bitch.

My opinion, it’s working just fine for 90% of us!

Nice try. How about all the years that your attendance SUCKED before those examples you listed? I say "your" because you sound like a guy that was on here before praising the ata but used a different name. One that we all knew from his position IN the ata.

The attendance has been low from year one. Due to THE ata MOVING THE grand TO A PLACE THE MEMBERS TOLD THEM NOT TO MOVE TO.
    Talk about stupid.

I've heard all the BS responses from guys like you so don't bother telling me them again. Face it, heck, do one better, ADMIT it. The ata screwed the pooch and they are now stuck in that place in ILLnews and it will NEVER GET BETTER. I'm not talking about getting back to the numbers the grand once had, I mean just getting better. NEVER HAPPEN!!!

I hope you stay there forever. Every year they look at the lousy numbers it will remind them of their major gaff. Good, they deserve it.

My opinion, it’s working just fine for 90% of us!

That's some funny s*^# right there. 90% agree with you.

90% of WHAT? 90% of the remaining ata members? That number is as bad as the attendance numbers for your grand. When you get 90% of the members attending that shoot you have in August, let me know.

smoke-um, The BOD likely had nothing to do with it the EC handles the money. There were many shooters that came to Vandalia and bought all their shooting supplies for the next year. Most did not shoot registered targets. They were shoppers, it is hard to say how many came their for supplies as there was no way to register them, the numbers were pretty high. I knew some of the gun buyers that came every year and bought and traded for guns and supplies. Roger C.

After reading all these posts I have a lot of apprehension of shooting at any ATA registered event. If I pay the fees in cash I’m concerned it will be pocketed and my option money not applied or worse not even be on a squad. If I pay with a card my worries would be having my card hacked. This scandalous organization obviously made their millions by scamming unsuspected shooters. Guess I’ll have to change to sporting clays. Does anyone know if the NSSF has the same issues?

Your handle indicates you may be a pot stirrer, but in case you are new to the sport rest assured there isn't a finer or more honest group of people than clay target shooters or the clubs that throw said targets. Because it is a tight knit group, dishonesty by an individual or club is quickly sorted out.

  56. Troublemkr

    Troublemkr Member

Now you have me confused. The ATA is corrupt, aren’t the individual clubs an extension of the ATA? For a registered ATA event it’s guilt by association. How can the individual club be trusted if the governing body is tainted. Makes no sense.

Clubs are independent, the ATA does not own a facility. At its core, it collects scores and fees that were posted at sanctioned events and maintains averages and handicap ratings. Just like the NSCA and the NSSA.

Okay I think I get it. So the fee as a sponsor at an event should have been collected by the club and not an ATA official. Why would a sponsor deem it necessary to pay an official and in such a public place? Was it a payoff, or the vendor was trying to show others the level of corruption, or it never happened?
