I think if that happens the PITA would be welcomed with OPEN ARMS here in the East.

Would save starting a new organization.

Great have at it. Contact them about getting your State included.

Oh, here is a portion of the rules on target setting fromPITA.

"no less than a straight away from firing point #11⁄2 to the right and firing point #41⁄2 to the left, or more than a straight away from firing point #1 to the right and firing point #5 to the left of the imaginary line through firing point #3 and the trap."

Sound familiar? The rule says targets will be set at the number two hole of a Winchester 1524. If a trap machine. Is not a Winchester 1524, the targets will be set as described above. Sound familiar? It is the minimum setting which produces the 17 degree target, as a minimum setting.

Now if a club is holding both ATA and PITA or just PITA do think the clubs will opt for the wider settings when given the option for the narrow settings, JUST LIKE ATA DOES TODAY?

Here is a link to the PDF file of P.I.T.A. rule book.

If PITA held a state tournament in your state would you be more likely to attend. I see you do not attend the ATA State shoot. This would be a good thing right?

  4. AZCOTRAP

    AZCOTRAP Mega Poster Founding Member

They do hold State shoots. I did not attend that shoot either, because I am not a member of PITA......yet.

Like I said, I missed this State shoot because of health problems. My god, you are a callous shallow person. You even human?

So your advise is for or against PITA in your State which you mock going to another state. And yet you would not attend either of their state shoots.

You stated we did not need the shooters that left the ATA. Then why would you care?

PITA is probably biding their time out of manners and decency, but at some point, they have to lead. I've been wondering what's taking them so long.

  8. Yup. From what i have taken from this site is. Most everyone is a ATA hater, A doomsdayer, A know it all non shooter or a Has BEEN. Gosh this is one depressing place makes me want to go buy a quart of draino for my nightly cocktail.

If you remember correctly I ask you one time what PITA had to say when you contacted them about expanding to the East and you never replied back so "What did they say".

not a new post, but another edit:

    What I said:

Sound familiar? The rule says targets will be set at the number two hole of a Winchester 1524. If a trap machine. Is not a Winchester 1524, the targets will be set as described above. Sound familiar? It is the minimum setting which produces the 17 degree target, as a minimum setting.

    Should have said:

Sound familiar? The rule says targets will be set at the number two hole of a Winchester 1524.
If a trap machine is not a Winchester 1524, the targets will be set as described above. It should sound familiar because it is the minimum setting which produces the 17 degree target, as a minimum setting. Just like the current ATA rule.

I do not and cannot speak for the people of the PITA but if by chance they did not infringe on the ATA why would they not expand ..? I give them credit for not getting involved in any of the ATA business and staying at arms length so to speak ... I have talked to several members who are cross members (ATA and PITA) and they seem to think the PITA has the best grasp on what the trapshooters want and expect from a membership organization ... I would join in a heart beat and maybe get back and start shooting registered again ... Have Motor Home, will travel ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

PITA does not, because PITA wants the ability to cross-register targets with ATA.

I was able to contact the P.I.T.A. PR people and asked them what their goals were for expansion. They sent me this map which shows all the States they one day hope to hold P.I.T.A. Registered shoots, EXCEPT those highlighted in red.

PITA can and does add clubs and states. Has nothing to do with Sparta. If you want to hold a shoot just contact them. Trap2 is well known In PITA circles maybe he would help you out. It is an outstanding organization. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

I would like to offer a little clarification here regarding the PITA. The PITA is its own entity, and is conducted as such. Every effort has been made by the PITA to co-exist with the ATA while not infringing on that organization. My association with the PITA over the past 40 years or so has been extremely satisfying and rewarding. From being a member all the way to becoming a Director, I have found that the PITA has ALWAYS put their members first. It was that way when I joined in 1973, and is still that way today. Any member can go to the PITA website and get the phone number of any Director and call them directly. The transparency of the PITA is second to none. The PITA knows, all too well, that their members are what makes up the organization and works diligently to earn their members trust and respect. If you are interested in the PITA and how it works, go to the website here: http://shootpita.com/

As to the question posed above: "I do not and cannot speak for the people of the PITA but if by chance they did not infringe on the ATA why would they not expand ..? I give them credit for not getting involved in any of the ATA business and staying at arms length so to speak ... I have talked to several members who are cross members (ATA and PITA) and they seem to think the PITA has the best grasp on what the trapshooters want and expect from a membership organization ... I would join in a heart beat and maybe get back and start shooting registered again ... Have Motor Home, will travel ... WPT ... (YAC) ..."

The PITA would very much like to expand, and offer as many shooters as possible the benefits the PITA has to offer. They do, however, have one very steadfast rule regarding expansion: They will only go where they are invited to do so. They do not, and will not, make any attempt to solicit a gun club, or promote a registered PITA shoot without invitation. Why you might ask? My personal belief (and it's MY belief) is it is out of respect for the ATA, their clubs, and their membership. This is the very reason for offering cross registration between the two. The ATA has worked hard, IN THE PAST, to organize these clubs, and I believe the PITA respects that fact. If your club would like to throw registered PITA targets, or become a registered PITA club, a simple phone call to Sue Brewer, the executive secretary of the PITA is all it takes. Simple as that. If you would like more information, feel free to PM me....

I bet a lot of viewers thought this was a goofy thread a while back. Well now.....PITA leaders here is your opportunity. There is land. A large field and some vacant buildings. Trump might see this as an opportunity.

If the P I T A expanded there would be only one place big enough to host their grand and that would be the WSRC so it would be the same song with different music, still lacking infrastructure but with all of the extra driving and traveling back and forth if you do not stay on the grounds ... The change in management would no doubt be an attraction so the attendance would probably double for one year, maybe two but all in all the lacking of accommodation would catch up with them again like it has the ATA ... Trap shooters have evolved and do not sleep in their cars, tents, and pee in the bushes like the early days back in Ohio ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Have they even shown any interest in any of your comments on what they should do?

Jim R. is the new PITA president, (congratulations Jim). He might comment on this post, but I haven't seen him on here for a while. In My opinion, I don't think that the PITA is looking to expand into, what has been traditionally ATA country. If They did, I bet there would be Two PITA's, East and West. With each having it's own staff. With all the curent officers and staff living in the far West, The logistics of managing an Eastern PITA would be difficult at best. Keep in mind that the PITA is a much smaller organization, run by mostly volunteers. I don't see them wanting to work themselves into an early grave. It would take a large amount of shooter input and involvement/work. Punching keys on a coputer on this blog is a good place to have a discusion in theory, but probably is not enough to get the job done. Personally, I don't think that there is enough ATA shooter support to get this done. Just My 2 cents.

I have had the pleasure of talking to a lot of shooters who used to register targets (ATA) on a regular basis, some have quit in the past year after the Sparta experience for a year or two while many more have quit in the past 5 / 10 years for various reasons ... There are several who have voiced concerns and asked questions about the EC, and some of the BOD's shooting, travel , expenses, etc. being supported by the members money's as they travel about under the guise of "Company Business" when in fact its game time for them at the shooters expense ... It surprises me to hear the number of shooters who have questioned those actions and who have asked questions about them in one way or another to no avail and they get ignored as usual ... If things keep going as they have for the past few years it won't be long and the ATA will be about the same in numbers as the P.I.T.A. is so there won't be a marginal difference other than a respectability factor of the Officer and management teams which puts the P.I.T.A. on top ... The Founding Fathers would be spinning in their graves if they could see what has happened to a one time great organization that is now run by the me,me, me's and greed ... Once the members lose respect for those in charge its nearly impossible to reverse it and get that respect back unless there are big changes and the trash gets removed and to the curb for once and for all ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

WPT, I Hope that this situation is resolved. Out here in the West, I believe We are shooting the same amount of registered targets, but with fewer shooters. It is just getting so expensive that the average guy really can't afford it. For Our small 2 trap club, the future probably lies in more of a league-type format of shooting. Currently, We are in the middle of the, "games", shoot season, with practice sessions, some PITA shoots, 4-H kids shooting, combined with not a lot of volunteer labor, makes it a burn-out endeavor. Unfortunately, We all have to adapt to changing times, budgets, etc.

    Sockeye,
You and many others are holding on to hopes of the problems being resolved within the ATA but if you do not admit there is a problem, then do something to fix it the problem only gets worse as time passes ... The little 2 trap club you shoot at is probably one of the best things going for shooters today being as it take less volunteers and people to keep the operation going on a steady basis ... Trap leagues and games have always been a big attraction in most cases , gives people the competition they want and and its more of a social setting which is always fun without supporting the fat cats and feeding their greed ... Times are changing and things will soon be realized by many people that others are not interested in supporting them and an organization that is not in some way beneficial to the membership when all is said and done ... I was a member at a Great club back in the Midwest (Maywood Sportmans Club) and you had to take part in the club in some way by helping out or they would call you in and you'd have to explain yourself and tell them why you have not contributed in someway other than being a member and paying your dues ... I do not know of anyone who complained about it and the club was ran like it should be done ... The changes that have transpired over the years has hurt the ATA which is obvious by the attendance at the grand and the membership falling off ... If not for the little grass roots clubs the ATA would be nothing because they are the ones who built the ATA by promoting and getting members at their club because of those members ... The "Cash Cow" bubble will burst and those that are milking it will be the cause and probably drain the bank account before its all over ... Time will tell and we all hope it don't happen but you never know, you know ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
