This is a mathematical head scratcher. There are only 580 Illinois shooters registered to shoot at the WSRC?

Ohio will have more shooters than that at the Cardinal Classic. I am just pointing out the numbers. You tell me.

A better question is why after 17 years of the grand being at Sparta does Ohio STILL have more ATA shooters than Illinois, back when they left Ohio they claimed that western shooters would make up for Ohio and Pa shooters and points east that wouldn't go to Illinois. Fake news or Lies?

They must throw more registered targets. Sparta gets the award every year for mega target. A few hundred thousand more than cardinal center. I thought the SCTP program at Cardinal was twice as big as the Grand numbers wise. Somebody fill me in. I’m headed that way as soon as I get the camper buttoned up.

SCTP only has one trap event Registered, singles. The caps and doubles, the games, the sporting clay's, the international and skeet are not ata. I think the skeet and sporting might be registered with those groups but I'm not for sure about that.

And SCTP chooses to register or not register with ATA, often they don't at Mason.

I am from PA and my last grand was the 100th . Us PA and Ohio shooters never wanted the grand to be moved to a Anti gun State like IL. controlled by a corrupt Chicago Democrat political machine . We said ," we would never go " and we did not go . Does anyone really think that IL. with an anti gun culture would make up the difference from the two largest groups of shooters from PA and OH ? I have relatives who live in Downers Grove and they are the biggest bunch of girly men I have ever met . I am surprised IL can even get 500 shooters at the Grand . I lived out West for a while and rifle shooting is king , back East it is all trap , the Grands board had options and did not need to go to IL . I knew about the VOID card, I think that is what it is called way before the Grand move where residents need this identification card to buy any ammunition including shotgun shells . I know non residents could buy without the card, but ask yourself should any Trap shooter support a State with this requirement ?

Agree with Bradford! I grew up in Illinois and we always joke “Ill-inois, it makes you sick”. The culture and and FOID cards are a joke. The whole state is run like its downtown Chicago and corruption is everywhere. They legalized marijauna to generate $$ to pay for their bankrupt state and corrupt politicians. I moved out and never going back!!

The governor, a democrat, who endorsed building the complex at Sparta, wound up going to jail, for 14 years. But he got pardoned by trump in feb 2020. How strange is that?

Actually, the WSRC was proposed by Gov. Ryan and he ended up in prison. The dedication/ground breaking was held at the Sparta Armory building because of rain that day. Gov. Blogovich was there and later he too went to prison. Kind of a trend in Illinois! I was at that ground breaking that day. As they say, the rest is history.
The ATA was looking for a home and Illinois ponied up. Who knows what the future holds as trap shooting seems to be losing shooters numbrs while Sporting Clays seems to be gaining?

    Quiz:

    Who threw registered targets first?

    A. Cardinal Center
    B. WSRC

It was surprising that Blagojevich, as a democrat, endorsed the project. It was expected that he would kill it. He was pandering for downstate support. Him and Ryan served their prison terms in two differant prisons I believe...

The Cardinal Center threw registered targets before the WSRC. Kinda screws up the timeline.

You have proven your stupidity. The fact that Illinois didn’t have at least 2000 shooters should prove the OP’s point to anyone with half a brain.

If the grand was in Ohio, Ohio alone would have 2000 shooters. Another 1000 from PA would have been there.

Instead we are stuck with the commie anti gun state called Illinois. How is that working out? Just as predicted!

There was only 802 Ohio Shooters at the Ohio state shoot this past year. (Rj Stuarts site) and 140 OH shooters in Sparta (ATA Site). I really doubt 1200 more show up for the Grand in Ohio in 2022. Ive only been ATA since 2012, if its normal for the Grand to draw 3xs the State, please let me know.

No facts but I'd bet in the day the Grand had 3x the shooters as the Ohio shoot. There was 1000 squads at the 100th Grand. 700-800 was common.

The Ohio (OSTA) shoot used to be bigger than the WSRC grand. The Grand while in Ohio had as many as 5,000 shooters in one event.

All have proven is you are living in the past and a Richard Cranium, and you have no idea how many would show up to the grand if it was in Ohio. Why didn’t all the 1000's of Ohio shooters show up for the Cardinal classic afraid of getting their rear ends handed to them by Ricky Marshall.

I am guessing you are from the Illinois / Missouri area. Glad you are here.

In 2003, thousands of Ohio trapshooters turned their back on the ATA. The survey the ATA spent $50k on said that would happen. They didn’t quit shooting. They even boycotted the last grand in Ohio. I am not surprised you didn’t know that.

Ohio has non-registered events that are bigger than the ATA mini grands.

The ATA and the Illinois leaders said they didn’t need Ohio or PA.

Since then the ATA has spent much of it’s resources propping up an unwanted venue. Additional points have to be added to the US Open to get a modest turnout.

The bulk of the Ohio shooters aren’t going to register targets with an organization that has its flag shoot in a gun hate state. It was in writing on the survey.

As per Ricky…..he isn’t the only good shooter at the CC. There were always great shooters at Vandalia. I am surprised you didn’t know that. BOL

1/2 the shooters that attended the last Grand in Ohio are either dead or quit shooting. The sport is on life support.

Those dead guys, always mucking things up. How dare they. But the Dems still have them on the voter rolls, voting for the "squad".

Roger, you're entitled to put your traps in any hole you prefer-always were. Instead of preaching to a choir, petition your delegate to bring up your suggestion at next years' meeting. Then you can say you personally saved Trapshooting. You can start a 4-hole 55 yd target petition if you like and see how many agree!

oleo, touch that nerve again did I. You should know by now that what you did was wrong. A lot of good men started the ATA, and a lot of mind less aholes
put it on a down hill slide that is picking up speed heading to the bottom. the delegates are for the most part worthless, they just want their parking space in sparta and their way paid to get there. Roger C.

Common sense and fair play is what you are lacking. You had to feel that a lack of both gave you a leg up on the men that played by the rules. It didn't work
you still ended up on the short end of the stick. You are to be pitied. Now you have a nice day, and enjoy your stature as a wontabe top shooter.

Roger, it's up to you to save Trapshooting. Either ask your delegate or be one yourself to change the rulebook and mandate wider and farther targets. I'm sure you believe everyone is on your page and it will pass with a huge majority. There. that was easy.

They have got a water drainage problem, on the east end, by the tent vendors. I heard that they got rain, the first wednesday, and the water was draining to the south, off the shooting fields, over the sidewalk, right into the tent vendors booths. The tent vendors had so much standing water, in their spaces, that they had to go get bags of mulch, and spread it out so the customers weren't walking in mud and water.

Then friday when I was there, they got hit again with another heavy shower. This made it even worse. Some of the vendors packed up early, and left.

How are they supposed to attract vendors, when they have such poor conditions? And it seemed like they had less vendors this year, than last year...

This could be one reason that people don't attend. To me, that is a large part of attending the grand, getting to see the vendors wares.

I would not have expected the grand to be in NY. I am stuck in a gun hate state. I still can’t figure out why Illinois. Follow the money right?

Did they investigate going to somewhere in Indiana? Seems like that would be more centrally located, than illinois...

That would of put it further away of being centrally located Linn Creek at Missouri Trapshooters Association would have been closer to being centrally located, seeing how Lebanon Kansas is the center of the United States.

Too bad the center of the US isn't the center of the shooters.

But not to worry. winston said the "mid-west" shooter base would make up for any OH and PA shooters that wouldn't show for the grand. He knew the OH/PA shooters wouldn't come because he saw that in the poll that SHOWED THEY WOULDN'T COME !!!!!!!

    Dysinger was right

There were probably as many “shooters” in Chicago during Grand week as there were in Sparta. Slight exaggeration, but it works.
