Registered shoot participation

I was reading the ATA rule book as I want to make sure that I understand everything I can before showing up to an official ATA shoot. In the rule book it states:
“Only ATA Life or Annual Members may participate in an ATA registered trapshooting tournament event and/or tournament. Shooters must be members of the State/Provincial Association in their place of residence to compete in registered shoots in that State or Province.”
If I live in Ohio near the Pennsylvania border am I not allowed to participate in official ATA shoots in PA since PA is in the eastern zone and Ohio is in the central zone or am I miss-reading the requirements?

Yes you can participate in the ATA shoots in other states.

 

You can partisipate in any registered shoot regardless of where it is held. You must be a member in good standing in the ATA. Roger C.

 

Make sure you bring ammo. You might not find any when you get there.

 

Check with your delegate in your state, they may have some free memberships for your first year. They will be able to help you get set up.

 

Theo; The sentence beginning “Shooters must be members...” might be causing your confusion. This wording is in there to cover the few states that require membership in the state organization to participate in shoots in that state. For example, if you live in Iowa and this is required in Iowa, they will give you a small sticker for your ATA card when you join the state organization. Without a current sticker, you can’t shoot registered targets in Iowa. You can still shoot everywhere else, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Florida, or wherever.

When you are an Ohio resident and join the ATA, you are considered to be a member in good standing within the OSTA.

You should never have to be a member of any other organization to partisipate in shooting an ATA sponsored shoot. To do anything different is extortion. We in AZ. must belong to the ASTA to vote in the state elections, but not to shoot in registered events. Roger C.
