The ATA can only be rigged system if members fail to provide oversight of their Delegates and Delegates provide oversight over the Executive Committee.

Our Delegates certainly need to pay more attention, ask more questions and make certain that they give final approval to all new rules. They also should have been asking to review all leases proposed by the Executive Committee. They should feel ashamed of the fact that they did not know any details of our past leases.

And we members didn't do our part by asking our Delegates for details.

There can be but few shanigan's when we all pay attention and demand information on all actions of present and future Executive Committees and our Delegates.

    Just my 2 cents.

HB, Unfortunately you are right. We didn't and still don't communicate with our delegates like we should. And we don't push our delegates to be responsible and commited. In reality, it's our own fault. Many of us look at this as a part time hobby, of little demanding concern. Then we question what happened, complain, and whine, but still do nothing about it because it's easier to bitch than seek solutions and get involved. Just my 2 cents worth, and I am as guilty as anyone else.

Having been honored by the shooter in my State some years ago who elected me as their Delegate, I can say that it took me a couple years to feel comfortable enough to understand the inter-workings. I understood that I was a member of the Board of Directors, but did not realize that the true power and responsibility of safeguarding the ATA actually rested with this group. Most of us just went with the flow and often went with the will of the Executive Committee. Yes, we asked questions among ourselves but only a few Delegates took the floor to pose questions, demand additional information and sometimes oppose E. C. proposals.

In my view, one of the best things that could be done is an important revision to the Delegate's Handbook reinforcing the mandate of our Constitution and By-Laws reminding them of their control and responsibilities to the ATA and its members. Perhaps an annual mandatory class for all Delegates conducted by a notable volunteer member versed in parliamentary procedure and by-laws. This would insure that every Board of Director understood their duties.

Who would believe that our Delegates still allow just five (5) members of the E. C. to arbitrarily mandate amendments to our rules without discussion with and approval by the BOD? And our Delegates just sit quietly and accept the change or at most grumble among themselves. Again I say that all rule changes must first be reviewed by the Rules Committee, who should be required to delve into our history on the subject, and if they support the change, recommend it to the BOD at the annual meeting. The Delegates will then discuss the issue with their State Association and shooters and be prepared to vote on the issue the following year at the next annual meeting. I would also require roll call votes except when the decision was unanimous.

I do hope that those reading this forum understand that many posters providing important information about the management of our Association are not doing so in order to harm the ATA. Quite the opposite, they hope to educate and inspire members to ask questions. Unfortunately, there are some who see those asking for reasons for proposed changes and/ore decisions as "bashing." I would ask those folks to take a breath and then decide if people have a right to ask questions and if it is their duty as a member to oversee management of our organization. If not, then they should remain silent the next time they disagree with an ATA decision.

Rosey, I'm guilty as well. I should have been a better Delegate. I'll always regret that.

The problem is when a Delegate recognizes a problem and then sits on his hand rather that do or say something about it for fear he will not get the people to back him in his efforts to make the needed changes ... The EC has the BOD right where they want them rather than the other way around and both the EC and BOD know it ... If by chance a Delegate would attempt to initiate changes he would probably find himself being ignored or the EC would find a way to get rid of him ... The Numbers speak for themselves, they are not good and getting worse on an annual basis, eventually something is going to have to be done by someone in a position to make some changes ... There's always the PITA if or when all else fails ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
