How long is the person calling for the bird allowed the wait before firing? I saw a person wait until the bird was three feet off the ground.

You always find one of those trying to not get shot out ... Tell them they are not welcome if that is how they play the game and do not sign them up again ... The game is a game of Honor which some people have and others never will, ironically the cheaters still get shot out because some body surely see's a piece (wink, wink) sooner or later they catch on ... There really is no rule but when it is obvious they are trying to take advantage (Cheat) do not let them play ... See how fast they shoot when they are trying to shoot someone out and that will tell you how fast they can shoot, go from there .... Good Luck ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Is there an advantage to waiting? IE the target slowing down? Seems to me the longer I wait the more likely I will miss the target.

The second shooter doesn’t get to shoot.

this could depend on weather the person is hitting the target. If he is you cannot do a thing about it. Not good and the person will probably be invited to shoot elsewhere.

    Jason,
Not going to argue about it but if the majority of shooters do not like the way any person plays the game you do not have to accept their entry even if that person is hitting the target ... I have shot games at several clubs for many years and I know for a fact there are shooters who's entry would not be accepted because they tried to CHEAT or get an unfair advantage in any way, at that point they change or are not allowed to play the games ... Been there, done that ... ( Integrity and Honor, some got it some don't ... ) WPT ... (YAC) ...

The second shooter is required to shoot, correct? Third is optional.

Not giving the second shooter enough time to determine a dead target and shoot, before it hits the ground is in my opinion a loss to the first shooter. That is of course if he does not hit the target. That would make cheating not worth taking the chance to have to hit the target three feet off the ground. This is how I would score it.

If that particular shooter complained, so be it. Hopefully you won't have to tell him next time not to shoot the event if he is trying to cheat the game.

If the first shooter plays that game and the second shooter shoots, someone might just see a chip (wink, wink) and knock the Cheater out anyway, I have seen that happen a few times, the first shooter gets the message really fast and quits being a Dick head ... Integrity, Honor, and really good eyesight ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

It's sad you have a shooter that will delay shooting until the target is almost on the ground just so they may not get put out. Our first shooters want and expect to break their target and are proud to do so. It keeps them in the game for sure. We allow as many folks to shoot after the shooter in front of them misses. Awesome feeling when your the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and sometimes the 5th to break the target before it hits the ground. We always have a dollar buy back paid to the shooter that breaks the target. another words if your the first shooter you miss and the 2nd, 3rd,4th miss and 5th shooter breaks the target he's paid a dollar each from 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. All who missed go to the end of the line when your put out the first time. The second time your put out your out of the game. Annie's are a lot of fun win or lose but having one poor sport takes the fun out. Rules need to be set and all should know the rules. The shooters such as you described should be told they are not a sportsman. The other shooters should let him know and if he continues he will not be allowed to shoot. Tough sometimes to tell them but they are taking the fun out of the game for everyone else. Good luck shoot straight.

We were actually very fortunate to not have any one particular shooter play the waiting game very often and when he did he usually got shot out any way (wink, wink) shooting the chips of a hit target was also a way to put a shooter out .. We didn't do buy backs because the number of games we shot on any given night would of carried us past our curfew ... The last game of the evening was always 5 for $5 from the flag pole (50 yds), that is when things got interesting and you could really sort out the shooters that ride targets because they donated, if you won that on your own it usually paid pretty well (40/50 bucks or more ) ... It was a lot of fun, it is missed by a lot of the guys who played ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Make a rule of how many of your call birds can be missed before you're out be default. At Maywood near Chicago (WPT - YAC) you are out by default if you miss 2 of your call birds. The 2 and out rule!!!

Shouldn't you know this rule WPT??? It was in effect when your dad was there......

    Jim B,
The clubs all seem to want to play it their way which is okay as long as its logical and realistic ... I loved shooting the Games at Maywood, yes I recall the rule but in Arizona they do not play it like that ( I suggested it) and it seems to work for them ( us ) as long as its consistent ... Shoot well and stay warm ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

My first rule is to not shoot an Oakley again. Some years ago I won an Oakley but when it was all said and done I was told congratulations but you guys shot to many birds so it cost me, the winner $1.10. That was my last Annie Oakley.

    SmokinTom,
I have shot games and Annie's to many times to count, I can honestly say I do not re call that ever happening ..
We have never used the Buy Backs which could make each game a lot longer and a lot more targets being used ... We shot the chips of the Shooters targets also which moved the games along quite a bit faster ... The games got to be a little intimidating so it was hard to get new shooters to join in, but it was fun while it lasted ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Our club uses first round buybacks only -- it does sweeten the pot - keeps people interested - birds are fast and wide for all our games! - Never use ATA specs for games - club needs to make money and turn over new shooters.

The variations of Games to the game crowd is as endless as peoples imagination, some of the thoughts (suggestions) make sense, some make no sense at all so what ever works for you is right ... The rules need to be spelled out, understood, and used to make it fun for everyone ... Buy backs never made any sense to me, figure if you miss you miss, you are out until the next game ... Partner Protections (Calcutta's ) can test ones talents, especially if it is a random draw but are still a lot of fun and eliminates some of the possible sandbagging that will usually drive shooters away ... Essentially there is no absolute right or wrong so long as everyone knows and plays by the established rules ... I would like to see them get started again, see what happens in the future if the club will go along with it ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
