I bought a bag of #5 eagle shot and it looks small as compared to West Coast shot. #5 eagle looks like #6 West Coast. What do you think?

Why not just measure it and post results rather than ask for opinions?

Hmmm why not just answer the question if you have an answer?

I ask a simple question why all the stupid responses I thought this was an informational site not a lets make stupid responses site. Plain and simple I ask if you thought eagle shot is smaller then other shot and I get all this no wonder I see so few posts here.

I have wondered what happens if you load some shells from a bag that was 5% larger and someone checked your shells.

I have purchased quite a bit of the Eagle shot when Cabela's had the lower price and free freight. I load 8's in new shot and the first couple shipments were right on track for measured size. The third shipment had 3 bags with proper size and a 3 bags that were small. I ordered 7.5 last time and measuring indicates a "Dukes Mixture" ranging from 7.5 to 8. I recently purchased 2 bags of West Coast 7.5 and the measurements indicate about the same mix. Understand my sample size is small as I only measure a few but note also I see no difference in performance........ Larry

Just for the heck of it I weighed 20 pellets like this: #6 west coast .00985, eagle #5 weighed .01085 and lastly west coast #5 weighed 01208.

Well the strange thing is the eagle 5's look smaller the the west cost 6's but yet they weigh a little more and the west cost 5's look and weigh more for sure. All the shot look like there are a lot off different sizes in them. It appears eagle 5's are in between 6's and 5's west coast. It doesn't mean anything bad you still have to point it at the target and hit it to break it.

Sorry fellows but I have not loaded in quite a while...

My question is what is all this about #5 and #6 shot size ???

Is this some metric that is supposed to be equal to 7.5's and 8's ???

I am really asking a serious question, as I sort of got lost with these sizes mentioned.

Thanks fellows, and a Very Merry Christmas to all !

Simple math. The more sixes you have in the mix the fewer 7 1/2's will be needed.

Eagle pellets aren't metric... they're just plain on the lowest side (or below) of the legitimate diameter for their sizing. The Eagle lead doesn't contain as much antimony (harderner) as the West Coast lead does so it's denser/heavier/softer/smaller for the same size WC pellet.

Yep, anatomy is less dense hence, lighter.

I use Eagle for skeet but never, ever for trap or live game. Though from the 16 it would be ok I guess.

I recently bought an OLD,OLD sack of Hornady XXXX 7.5 "extra hard" shot. Man I bought it from indicated it was at least 25 years old?????? Diameter average on 10 shot was .092" and average weight was 1.22 grains.
Same process with Eagle 7.5 gave average diameter as .091" and average weight of 1.1 grains.
Did the measuring on Eagle 8 and average diameter was .087" and average weight was .8 grains. My sample size was small and my measuring equipment is nothing special..... Not trying to demonstrate anything but I thought some might fine the comparisons interesting..... A friend has a few sacks of West Coast, should see him this weekend and he will give me some to measure...... tried to buy a sack from him but no luck there.......... :p:p:p:p Larry
