The local sporting clays field has their combo trap/skeet semi- ready--no voice calls for now

No sky targets at all-lots going right at trees and high tree banks

Wondering would lime green targets help against this crappy background

First time I've seen targets on the ground at the base of a tree

    Hope they make things right

I was at that trap field a couple weeks ago and the ProMatic trap was still set in the shipping hole (maybe #5) and targets headed straight out of the house with no rise at all, and about 55 to 60 MPH would be my guess.

Asked about the settings, and was told this is a "Work in progress"

They had the voice calls out, but the targets came out at a pretty good delay.

They need to get the trap "Centered" , the oscillation into the ATA 17.5° hole, and adjust the height and speed of the target.

What they really need at that place is to get the ProMatic Rep back there to set this thing up correctly for them, as this is a Sporting Clays club and they know nothing about setting trap targets.

When I offered some assistance I was told NO THANK YOU, so I'll just wait and see.

They need to tell me NO only once, and I get the message.

Phil, I do feel for you guys who donated so much, and so far got so little in return.

They missed the original deadline for opening in October of 2019, and it makes me wonder now just how long you will have to wait until things are done right.

Would enjoy going shooting down there, but not with the conditions I shot under when I went the first time.

Checked my contract--Pat Traps are spec'd, also I've been informed that Promatic have an inherent "slower" pull when compared to a Pat trap--if I continue to shoot here, it will screw up my game even worse than ever--kind of suspect the machine might be set on wobble-can't imagine the lack of consistency, elevation wise

Well, for everyone's sake I hope they get this completed properly, OR there was a real snow job put to those who contributed so much.

When I was there, the targets were coming out just above ground level, and traveling at a high rate of speed to get out 50 to 60 yards along the ground.

Unbelievable, as I had no idea a target could fly that far at about a 5 or 6 foot elevation.

And, I was truly looking forward to shooting some good trap again.

I guess we who have no say in the matter other than the contract writers, will have to wait and see Phil.

Again, I'm sorry this all came down this way.

Have you spoken to other contributors who are the Steering Committee, OR the owner of BJ about this yet ?

I just cannot imagine all of them don't know what is going on down there. If I were the owner I would get on top of the issues immediately, just for nothing else to protect his reputation which up until now, had been outstanding.

There was some REALLY BIG $$$$$ invested in that by individuals who just wanted a good place close by to shoot.

    So far, it's sad !

NOPE! wait to shoot at a place where the right target crosses the front of the trap house next to it! When the wind blows, the top of the house blows back towards you at a 45 degree angle.

Scores..38 is GREAT! ATA registered club, Promatic slow pull traps!

Now there is a real trap shooter's challenge!

    Mark,

So we were not just imagining the slow pulls from this ProMatic trap ?

I was using the voice calls and thought because I was holding a slightly high gun (before I bore down on the top of the house), I may not have been seeing the target when it came out. My second round (why did I do another ?) I was holding below the front of the roof, and they were still delayed.

Any decent Trap shooter will be disappointed if they don't get this thing running and set correctly.

At the moment you are better off shooting Sporting Clays rather than waste the money shooting this trap.

    You most certainly are correct.

Not even sure how this range was endorsed by the ATA. We could not even finish on the trap we started, tried the second trap and ended on the third to finish just on round!

If you made a comment, you were offered directions to another facility!

    OH BOY!

Mark what range were you at ? The field @ Sumterville, is a work in progress--not ATA certified at all

Dave , I had to lower my hold below the back of the house--to finally get a chance to hit a target--my timing was totally out of whack

Haven't been to a small club run club that wouldn't be happy to readjust a machine to keep a practice squad happy. -- And in todays climate, should be happy to find a place that lets you shoot .

Its not a small club, they're getting into trap--they threw 4 million sporting clays last year--they need some direction, if they want to listen

Have 3 one trap clubs in my area. Two of them the left target never makes 40 yds the right target is over a hillside goes who knows how far. The third club you can't shoot in the evening in the summer because the trap faces west unless you're wearing a welding mask, right into the setting sun.

And people that weren't from where we lived wondered why we said Vandalia had the best targets we shot all year.

Complain, complain, complain. We need to go back to Western handsets (usually set flatter, in the 3rd hole, out to at least 52 yds.), ban all shotguns made after 1975, get rid of voice releases (hire only bubble gum chewing young girls as pullers) and mandatory black and white targets. After all, that's the way this game was designed (well maybe glass balls too). The way some here think that would increase attendance to heights only reached in the 60's. This game has gotten too easy since everyone breaks a 100 or 99 and goes home with a pink ribbon (according to some). Does anyone see the absurdity of this logic?

Trap is set for hard angles and 50+ yards. Who ever signs up first on squad determines yardage from 22 to 27 yards. Two shots per post. If there are ties, then the FUN begins. Shoot-offs are generally 40 to 50 yards behind posts 1 or 5.
The club is packed with shooters. I generally sign up for 5 rounds...that was before I got injured.

    Phil,

I received a call from the President of the VTSSC Club and was invited to attend this Tuesday.

Think I'll take a ride down and see IF what he told me is for real.

He stated they had a ProMatic rep, and "Master" trap shooters down there and RE-set the trap on its mounts, and set it up to their liking.

    Hope so.

Not sure what a "Master" trap shooter is, but I assumed someone who knows what to do for good targets.

Just got back from the field, had the trapper put in some lime green targets, whats difference--no streaking, ran a box

The machine is a Pro-matic matrix, don't believe it can throw doubles, also the "master" trap shooter was supposed have used a radar gun, unless it was a high power gun, they could not shoot it from a singles post on station 3, also the field is higher than the arm of the machine, without a surveyor to shoot an elevation, 10yds from point "B" their setting is guess work

I mentioned they needed to set up a transit, and he shut me down right there and then.

I was also told they used a speed radar gun.

Thank God, as I would venture a guess those first ones I shot at were in the 55 to 60 MPH range.

Had only seen anything that fast in a LONG shoot off to end the ties.

I was Told it's the best they can do under the conditions, and that's it.

    I'll give it a try.

I like those Lime birds also under the right conditions.

Who shut you down? By the way if they had a low power gun it wouldn't work from the 16 yd line & if they got it read 40mph, its throwing targets way faster also if the 50 stake is way higher than the 16 yd elevation its worthless
AND, a Promatic Matrix takes 1.5 sec to recock, hence inherent slow pulls
Will try & get there tomorrow

Not to get into names, but when I was told they weren't going to get that deep into the settings with a transit, I asked if they could get a protractor and set the target plate to a 22° or so setting for the elevation along with the speed gun.

I soon learned that this trap was as good as they were going to set it, and most of the guys are there to just have fun and shoot some clay pigeons.

That being said, I offered NO more suggestions to better the field.

I'll go down on my own, shoot whatever is presented, and go home keeping my opinions to myself. Not shooting ATA any more so I guess it doesn't matter anyway.

Not looking to create any issues with those fellows.

I just thought I could help but oooooops, a new member of this VTSSC club has to shut up, and deal with what they give you.

Went there today, on Tues. we have to share the field with skeeters on a Tues. What a cluster F--!!, Five trapshooters shoot 25 targets each, then have to sit out and wait for 5 skeeters to complete a round , more than twice the time !!

Trap shooters should be able to shoot two rounds, then the skeeters go, then the trap shooters two rounds

Anyway , its Thurs and Sat for me --when trapshooters have the field

    Hope to see you Thurs

Since I won't be shooting those leagues they proposed on Tuesdays, I plan on doing Thursday only shooting for the trap shooters.

    How was the turnout ?

I was going to call today and find out if Thursday and Saturday were still Trap days for us.

I assume the trap is set somewhat correct now ?

If the weather is good, I plan on being there around 9:30 or so.

Have you talked to Wildcat Lewis lately ?

Been there on Tues. twice, its a cluster F--got to alternate games with the skeeters--not fair a round of skeet takes at least twice as long as a round of trap

Also, the model trap they got has no adjustments without wrenches

want the club to change trap to Wed & Fri--this way I can should registered on Sat (when other clubs open)

Hope they change to green targets--only way to see on that background

Spoke to Wildcat, he's back in Kentucky

Noticed they are throwing Lawry Sporting Targets, per the Lawry website " sporting clay targets are heavier & denser than trap/skeet targets-designed to be thrown farther & faster"

Would a heavier target fly flatter with less face showing, besides being smokeless ?

    More things to fix
