C4 Shooting and Training Center - Madison - Urbandale, OH

This gun club in Madison Ohio has been around atleast since the 80s and widely known as Urbandale Gun Club. In their hay day, they threw registered shoots and even held the zone at some point in time. It's changed hands many times since and has had its ups and downs. The current owners bought it a few years ago and have started making some major changes to the place.

Our local club (Geneva Rod and Gun) is closed for the month for the grape tieing so we decided to give C4 a shot. They were open and there was a dozen trucks in the parking lot. We we shooting withing 10 minutes, a quick chat with the people inside and someone ran out and loaded the house for us. The houses face North which our winds off the lake can be pretty rough but yesterday was 60 sunny and calm. Targets were great. We shot 2 singles and 3 handicap. I dont think we had 1 broken target. They throw solid orange bios. We also shot 2 rounds of doubles. Had some broken targets but they advised this was the last of the Pats that was to be replaced in the near future. Most of the equipment had been used and abused with little to no maintenence over the years so all of the machines were replaced with Mec throwers.

We had so much fun we are going back for Sporting Clays today. We also bought memberships.They have a 100 target sporting clays course and it changes every two weeks. They also have 2 skeet houses, a pistol/site in range and the 100 yard rifle range. I think they also have 3D archery course, have to check on that when I go back. A 300 yard rifle range is in the works and appears they are building a set up for 5 stand or possibly its already there but just needs finished. For trap, they will have 5 total houses. They also will be holding ATA shoots at some point. Not sure it will be this summer due to the current chaos.

Anyone wanting to get out and do some shooting, I highly recommend stopping by. The people are nice, very hard working and certainly have our 2nd Amendment Rights in mind. They also had some pistol and 5.56 ammo. No name brand but prices were good.

Sporting clays course was a riot. I was surprised at the difficulty of the course. I would put it at an intermediate skill level with a few targets that 3 of us never touched. The Mec throwers were great. One station we had a few broken targets but other than that no issues. They do not have an archery course; that is part of Lake County Gun Club next door and they are not affiliated with one another. C4 will have 5 stand in the future when the building is built.They are currently working on adding more pistol bays. Along with all the public offerings, they also serve as a training center for close to 30 law enforcement departments.

 

I've shot there many times while visiting my In-Laws through the decades. The only thing I never liked about the club was they never had enough seating nor any type of shade (pavilions) on the Trap line. Price was always good and the people friendly, but I sure wish they would fix up some seating other than an old picnic table to sit one's gear on.

 

I shot some of my first registered targets at Urbandale gun club back in the early 70's. I was one of the premo clubs back then. Owned by Ely & Helen Cone and managed by Bob Crispin. A hundred plus shooters was common at there registered shoots. The targets were always tough there, we shot what we called the lake Erie skippers. If you could hold a class B average there you could shoot AA at most every other club. Glad to hear it is still in operation. Roger C.
