Imagine you were going to move the International, World Cup, Olympic training grounds, and US Competition venue somewhere. What venue would you choose? Lots of choices right?

    I report. You decide.

Just like it was the only option for the SCTP huh?

Besides, a facility has to stay open to have a shoot. I'm pretty sure if any of these organizations WERE thinking of moving they would look first at the history of the facility before they spent one cent.

"Hey, that place in Illnews, that place out in the sticks, called the WSRC ? They want us to move all our shooting there. They said they will build whatever we need for free."

The fate of the 2016 SCTP Championships were unknown during the shuttering of the World Shooting and Recreational Complex. Remember, the Governor assured the A.T.A. in September 2015, that it would remain open for business.

Governor Says WSCR Will Not Close, 24SEP2015.jpg
Then, the Governor shut the gates for all sports activities.

The A.T.A. informed the IDNR that due to their defaulting on the lease, the A.T.A. would be looking for other States to hold their Grand American tournament.

    WSRC Default, 2015OCT07.jpg
The A.T.A. asked the IDNR to consider a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) permitting the A.T.A. to assume operation of the WSRC for June, July & August of 2016 (if the IDNR did not resume sporting activities by April 15, 2016.

While this was good for the A.T.A., it left many unanswered question for the SCTP who saw their 3-year lease with the IDNR in default.

    WSRC EXPENSE-Term of Lease.jpg WSRC EXPENSE-Premises Use Fee.jpg
Knowing that both the Illinois Governor and the IDNR failed to abide by their contract, they were forced to search for alternative locations for their annual Championships. On very short notice, they accepted the offer by the Cardinal Center who also agreed to install additional shooting fields before their July tournaments. Mr. Fishburn completed all construction

Who else has a better option, Where was the BEST option in the very early stages of the ATA Move?

Step right up and say where the Best option was in the very beginning, and who NIXED the deals?

I was Speaking about the Best Long Running Deal Offer?

It is called the World Shooting and Recreation Center because it is designed to hold these events.

It may have been DESIGNED to hold these events, but with NO guarantee the place would stay open.

Cheers to MR. Fishburn, and the Cardinal Center operators for coming to he rescue !

To design something to fly and then it will not get off the ground makes zero sense at all ... The State provided a facility so the ATA would have a place to go to out of desperation rather than not have a grand for a year or two which would of give them time to make a more logical and reasonable choice before relocating to a place that can't draw crowds because it does not have the needed infrastructure in the general or immediate area ... Sparta was eliminated while the ATA was still in Vandalia, those who represented Sparta packed up their shit and went back home ... The deal obviously got sweetened and all of a sudden its Sparta all over again ... The facility could not and to this day does not pass the due diligence that was initially supposed to be part of any deal for re location, ( the ATA paid big money to have this established ) they got around that by having a lease agreement (MOU) to eliminate the due diligence (not that it should of ) and the ATA boasted about the choice being Sparta, Ill ... The rest is history and Sparta has proven to be more like a black plague by eliminating (decreasing) the attendance on an annual basis ... There are many shooters who gave it a chance and won't be going back, those numbers increase every year for what ever reason, some die , other lose interest ...
The ATA has created a situation where they really have no place to go unless someone has the influence to get a club to accept the grand on a contract basis and eliminate the ATA from running the operation (micro managing ) , even at that there are only a few clubs that could handle it when the attendance all of a sudden increases dramatically because of the new location and available amenities ... I have no doubt the Annual Co Sponsor could arrange for the grand to be held some place else which would be the only logical and reasonable thing to do ... As they say "Money talks, Bullshit walks " ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

All of the above that has been already discussed endlessly is certainly fascinating for the umteenth time but that is not what the OP asked. Regarding that I suspect that Tucson or Phoenix would be the most likely to have adequate facilities and local infrastructure that would be adequate. Constructing a dedicated facility would certainly be a boon to the program but is about as likely as the .................. well I won't go into that again

I know of one "dedicated facility" that was supposed to be a boon to the program.

It's still a facility but mostly just dead. Actually it was DOA

You obviously do not have to read it for the umteenth time or again for that matter, that would be your problem if you do ... The same goes for the initial question regarding a venue, Sparta is not it and never will be ... Ben Avery (Phoenix) had the Olympic team shooting at the facility due to weather conditions in Colorado last year and I think the year before on the bunker ... The facility's exist they are not being utilized for one reason or another ... The grand will never be what the grand once was as long as it stays in Sparta, Ill, or possibly ever again ... The absolute most progressive facility's outside of the Southwest would be Lynn Creek and Cardinal Center, never been to any on the east coast so I would not know about them ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Design and result can be very different. In the case of that place in Illnews this picture pretty much sums it up.

The new SCTP contract calls for 3 to 5 international bunker fields, more than enough for the world championships. The NSSF runs the SCTP and are the ones that wanted the move to the Cardinal so it makes sense that they might want to move the NSSF out of anti gun Connecticut for a pro gun state which Illinois ain't and the Western States are getting more anti gun every year. Look at California, used to have the most ata shooters in the nation, now they can't buy ammo out of state and bring it back.

Texas (Amarillo) and the relocating committee queered the deal … It was a virtual interest free loan and the ATA would of owned the property, buildings etc … Jimmy Borum (RIP) and his Buddy Jeff had and gave all of the particulars many times over so the members could see and read what was going on … The trap line would of only been a mile long but more than adequate for the intended purpose … WPT … (YAC) …

DLS, this ones for you … How is the new gun working out ..?

Exactly ! ! And I did not - Nothing new has been said about that for a few years now

I've always wondered who/what it is that gets the payoff for "International Training Centers" built in climates that only allow use for about 6mo/yr. It's not like the US doesn't have the full spectrum of climates to chose from. And of course as I mentioned before a local infrastructure capable of supporting the demands of events. And yes I realize that Phoenix and Tucson have moments of climate challenge as well but even in the summer the several hrs in early mornings can be quite pleasant and long days make shooting into the evenings easy. If you wanta shoot at 3PM you'll likely not have a problem finding a vacant field.

Heck, I didn't even notice you misspelled it. I only replied with the definition to show that it meant an indefinitely large number. As in indefinite, no end, keep going...…….

At certain times these different issues are brought back into the lime light because we find out that some NEW members of the forum have no idea of the history behind the relocation of the home grounds, 2012 purchase, and of course that State owned building the ATA members are paying for.

In a recent phone conversation with a well known member on here, I also found out that one of the old time ATA supporters had no idea that the THOF building was OWNED by the STATE of Illinois. All this time donations have been going forward to pay for something the State could pull the rug our from under at any time.

So, that being said, we like to present the history in FACTUAL form to make them aware of the Deal we got from past EC members and the STATE of Illinois.

Welcome new members to a site where you get the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

A special thank you goes out to HISTORY BUFF for all His dedication in keeping, and presenting this factual information for the masses.

Perhaps stickies on those topics might satisfy everyone's interests and a simple look at the stickie and/or a quick ref to it would save lotsnlotsnlots of needless reposting effort on the part of those wishing to present the info
    just a thot

A single "stickie" would be so long no one would take the time to read it .....

Enough "stickies" to cover most topics would take too much page space, making people skip to new content without searching for what their interest may be .....

The biggest advantage to keep posting about a general topics is ..... the wording may change enough to help make the point become clear to some readers .....

Old news is New news to those who haven't heard it. With all the new readers coming every month it's old news to those of us on here for years but new news to them. The kool aid group has no news all the time so anyone from there needs to be let in to the joke that is Sparta and the ATA EC.

Semper, I know that this forum "does not censer or delete posts" because it "honors the 1st Amendment." But when I have been somewhat provocative asking why certain (this) subject gets reheated over and over, my posts just magically disappear.
    Hmm.
(On the other hand, I guess we gotta talk about something.)

I suppose it could just be me but it seems to me that there are far more important issues and problems with US trap than where the Grand that practically nobody attends is held..... I mean the whole Grand thing is bogus like if NASCAR had eight jillion little races that counted for nothing and then had one race during the year, at no particularly significant time, that crowned the Nat Champ. How stupid would that be?
