Instead of "see one", how about this let each squad member shoot one "non score able" target before starting an event

Lots of times I have really long rides to shoot a registered shoot, the practice fields are in S--Ts Creek, guess what my first target has a less than a 50/50 chance of being lost

this will only work for the first event of a typical 300 target event or the first target of a 200 target championship event

Ok guys flame away--just a thought on something new, for us non All Americans

Honestly, it's not a bad idea. I have seen more than one shooter suffer first target jitters only to recover and run the rest. But conversely, it would penalize those shooters who are focused right from the start. Can't wait to hear other opinions. Our gun club used to do something similar to this on meat shoot nights. If you missed the first bird of the event, you could purchase a do over for $5.

It not just focus , it getting comfortable with the gun and recoil--next rd its for real-- what would be the real problem-- its not ATA--its a club bene

Shooting a 200 target event with a Hall of famer / All American and he missed the first one out...After the first 25 he said, it's going to be a long 199 and sure enough he ran all the rest.

Not long after that I did the same thing...ha ha ha

I would have gladly given 5 bucks just to use that first target as a "practice" target...LOL

It happens more than we know !

Missed the first one last year and finished with a 99/100. I suppose it was a good lesson for my 12 yo like "never give up" if nothing else. We won't even discuss how many time one year I missed the last one and finished with a 99.

A shooting bud of mine , mentioned the term "foul shot", wondering if this could be used to address what I proposed

I have had 2 99s after missing the first target. Its a very long and tedious 99 straight, I can tell you that.

I've watched truly great shooters stand in line at a practice field. No one really looking to win ever pulls the trigger for the first time of the day on a scored target
Observation tells me that this is NOT JMO
keeping track of the $5 buyback would be a righteous pain and that may just be MY JMO hahahaha

Semper, I am confident the suggestion was a joke.
But who knows. I mean the FTF rule allows 2 "take overs" on every 25. Heck, maybe they should let shooters buy mulligans like they do in informal golf scrambles and country club member/guest tournaments. Use em when you need em. ;)

Don't skeeters get a mulligan? At least at my club they do

No. The standard skeet course is 24 targets and the 25th target can be shot at any time from any station as the "option". If it is shot to re-do a missed target the final score will still reflect that miss.

OMG, have I been out of Skeet that long ????

Last time I shot Skeet we were still having to take our "Option" 25th shot from Station 8 low if we were running them...

That was put into place years ago because people would walk all over the place to take their 25th shot after they shot station 8 low. That took a lot of time, and I thought that the 8 Low Option was still in place....I better read up Just for kicks so I know Skeet rules. I just like to keep up.

You could well be right. I'm only a casual and the option for us nobodies usually happens way before sta8 hahahaha

anything to make the game easier. Why not shoot a practice 25 first? And have the option of taking the practice score.

I am sure they would let you have a few flyers for free at a live bird shoot.

    Yes....if you're running them.
Your first miss can be reshot (Mulligan)t at the same target you missed. If you don't miss, then the 25th target will be taken on station 8.

How about this? Give ALL First Shooters of the event a Free Shot. Personally I don't see the need for it, but I'm just one shooter. JMHO

If a shooter wants a "Free" first shot they should have to pay for it so the club does not have to take on the burden ... $3.00 for target and services to the club should be about right ... I do not think it would take long for shooters to figure out they do not need that first target to not count ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

If ya' have to the first shot jitter's, shoot a practice rd.

If you're having to drive a long distance, leave earlier so ya' can shoot that practice rd.

    Good luck

    The problem?
Jitters on the first shot. Mental not mechanical problem.

Oh man I don't want to miss this first one. Boy oh boy, if I miss the first one it's going to suck.
Please God, let me hit this first bird. I don't care if I miss the second bird just not the first one that counts.

OK, I just shot 25 practice birds and broke a 23. Missed 2 on the third station.Got the first one and that is what matters. Time to get to the line and shoot when it COUNTS.

Oh man I don't want to miss this first one. Boy oh boy, if I miss the first one it's going to suck. Please God, let me hit this first bird. I don't care if I miss the second bird just not the first one that counts.

You could shoot 100 "practice" birds before you walked to the line where in your brain it COUNTS.

    Since it's definitely mental,
Call for the target, track it a short distance, DONT shoot at it. Pull out that stupid FTF card and do it over.
Now you aren't shooting at the first target you see.

    Glad I could help.
