I cannot pick any one or two places because it would depend on where they can get the biggest kick back (graft) to pad their bank accounts ... They re located to Illinois against the will of the majority of the membership so that being said means they could and probably would move where ever they got accepted if its to be at an already established facility ... The ATA is owned by the Members but the way it gets operated you would think the ATA is doing the members a favor by existing ... The ED is as useless as tits on a bull yet he makes the decisions and the EC goes along with it, he should of been let go a long time ago rather than get a raise in pay/benefits and bonus's ... The State of Illinois is going to stick it right up the ATA's ass in the future because the State is going in a totally new direction that will not make it a comfortable setting for the members ...

I believe it would have to stay in the upper Midwest or attendance would really fall off. Yes I know in Illinois it has really dropped. but put it back in Ohio or 1 of the other big trapshooting gun friendly states and it may enjoy a resurgence.

I think the facility at Sparta is nice. The location is not great. As its a 9 hr drive for me. The town itself is nice with many places to eat, and I love taking my kids to the town pool.

That said Im not going to Grand this year. With the travel cost and $41 targets its an every other year indulgence now. Even more so with the CC 1.5 hrs from my house and I never have to move the camper etc.

The shoots at the cardinal Center have taken the place of the grand for many people because of the lacking of amenities in the immediate area in Illinois ... This is what could and should be considered to be gross lack of planning especially after the ATA paid out big money and hired a firm to seek and find a place based on their due diligence which was circumvented when they agreed to a lease rather than purchase on the facility (WSRC) , in Sparta, Ill ... That is a dead horse and there is no sense to keep beating it ... If the ATA does make a move and it is the wrong one, that might just be the last nail in their coffin ... The choice cannot and should not be made on what they (ED, EC, and many on the BOD) want but more so what the Shooters ( Members ) want or it will fail also ... There are more battles that will need attention for the ATA in the coming years as Older shooters die off and the new Generation gets more into video games and Sporting Clays ... The facility in Sparta did not put Sparta on the map as it was intended to do, actually all it did was drive more attendance away ... The ED, EC and many on the BOD will never admit the move to Illinois was a screw up because they feel they cannot make mistakes but in this case there were a lot of screw ups ... The sooner the ATA gets the Hell out of Illinois the better ... (JMHO) WPT ... (YAC) ...

I did end up voting but for the place that would be the most logical, so we know it will not be the choice ...

The personal trapshooting interests of roughly 27,000 active members of the ATA are hanging in the wind. There are people who know what the immediate future holds. A meeting between the C.C. and the ATA was scheduled for the end of this year. Other meetings with other principals have been scheduled.

This little morality play is not a matter of National Security. The roughly 27,000 active members don't give a bull's rectum where the next Grand in held. All they care about is being part of a dying tradition.

Think about this, if you will. If Brad Dysinger hadn't ratted out Vice President Shaw's request, none of ya'll would know "Jack $hit." The CC/ATA meetings would have happened in relative privacy, speculative gossip would have run amok for a couple of days, and then everybody would have gone dutifully back to their humble pi$$ing and moaning.

The fact is that the reason the information which will affect 27,000 ATA members over the years to come is being so jealously guarded is because it makes a few people feel important. The ATA is a turd in a punch bowl. The S.A.S.S., some crazy bunch of dressup cowpokes, has nearly 4 times as many active members as the ATA, and they're growing.
Their regularly scheduled events are all held at Sparta. When Sparta takes a dump, they'll be looking, too. Just for chits and giggles, call their president or any of their regional officers. You think they might already know? I mean, after all, they're only 4 times bigger. Maybe they actually care enough to tell the truth.

This whole Sparta thing is starting to remind me of Junior High School. One of my pals told me that Louise French kissed Bobby. Woop! Big Woop!

Thank you sid:confused:ney for clearing that up for us. Since you have been correct on all your other posts I am sure this one is the God's truth. For examples of your wisdom one has to only go back and read some of your other all knowing predictions.

On the SCTP moving to the Cardinal Center
"The above has not been confirmed. More like a wild ass wish."

We all know how that one worked out for you. Wipe that last little bit of egg off your face, you missed a spot.

On the attendance at that place in ILLnews
"I am betting the GAH will be up 17%. You can’t win it if y’all don’t shoot it. $$$$"

UPDATE: sid:confused:ney lied about the betting part and was SO WRONG about the 17% part that I wouldn't put much faith in anything he says. Like mikej, LIE about one thing and all the others are suspect.

Also on how many people really go to that place.
"Attendance down a little first day. Great weather for shooting."

And even with that great weather the attendance was down on the LAST DAY too. LOL Please explain that to all of us.

He won't, he never answers direct questions but I love the fact that he comes on our site. Trolls are what generate posts and ratings. The more outlandish his posts the better for us.

"Another option would be another place in Illinois"
What's this? A little doubt creeping into your prediction of that shoot never leaving your village? Why even think of the word option? You said it would be at that white elephant(WSRC) FOREVER.

Just in case you are WRONG AGAIN sid:confused:ney?

Where is Sparta Sid going to troll if the grand leaves his crap hole of a State. The reason all the loud mouths defend that place is because it is a close drive for them. they don't give a rats behind what is has done for the sport of trapshooting. all they care about is that it is in there backyard. Most of the people that think that place in illnews is great haven't been shooting long enough to know any better if they even shoot registered birds at all.

You hit it on the head.
I looked up their "shoot records" and most of them joined when what used to be the grand moved into their neighborhood.

The funny thing is a couple of the loudest cheerleaders went once and never shot another target. Another one only shoots there and nowhere else.

Just like their "favorite place to shoot", they are a joke. Nice to have around here but still a joke.

It's nearly one quarter of the way thru the 21st Century. Why should there be any need to make such geographic and service demands on any one area? There are easily enough large scale facilities across the country that could schedule simultaneous events to constitute a national championship event easily equal to the current so-called Grand. There would likely also be gains in participation that would be several times the current one simply because more people could afford to do it.
not to mention the loss of the ceaseless BS about some rathole in Illinois or Ohio
    just a thot (thought)

You can schedule the shoot in many places, but you can not schedule the weather to be the same at every location. That is the problem with satalite locations. You could have the top scores from each location brought together at one place for a shoot off for the championship and placement. The ATA could pay for the shooters travel expenses. Roger C.

  41. why not the middle of the US! my vote is for either Omaha, NE or Council Bluffs IA area. if that is to small then Kansas City, KS or Kansas City MO area. all four state are pro gun, hunting and outdoor sports. both areas have large airports, and plenty of hotels, casinos, restaurants and plenty to do for the kids and wife or non-shoot that tags along. the weather would be similar to what it is now in Sparta. Plenty of people in both places to staff the place. JUST AN IDEA

There are many places they could go if an existing club would have them ... The thought of building a new facility for the grand would probably be a night mare and cost prohibitive based on current prices ... There are existing clubs that could host the grand even if there is a major increase in participation with amenities close by or near enough compared to the WSRC in Sparta, Illinois ... The traps are getting to the point where they are going to be needing a lot of repairs in the near future, they sure do not need a 3 1/2 mile trap line to get it done, that's for sure ...
The ATA should put the Grand out to clubs that can handle it on a bid basis and let that club take care of everything with the exception of promotion and advertising, which should be done by the ATA ... The club could make money and so could the ATA , they might be surprised how much the attendance would probably increase in a couple of years if not right away ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

The state tells the ata they can't afford to have the "grand" there.

The ata throws a big enough number at them. (remember that one guy said they had 19M in the bank) and the ata stays at that outpost. Remember the guy that said "registered shooting" wasn't for us poor people but for him and his "deep pocket" friends? GOOD, I hope him and all his buds that just love that loser of a place have to come up with 10K each to help the ata out. And they have to do that every year they want to shoot there.

Spend millions to have a shoot for a couple of weeks at a place no one wants to go to.

    A FANTASTIC DIRECTION!!!

I have my doubts the ATA would be able to come up with enough people coming up with 10 K a piece to keep the place going ... I could see where shooters and sponsors would come up with extra money to shoot certain events if it was at ATA home grounds, owned and operated by and for the the ATA and its members, if its not out in the middle on no place ... I seriously doubt we will live long enough to see that day if it ever comes again ... The ATA turned into renters doing what many renters do and since then the Association has turned to shit ... They take what they are given and try to sponge the rest off of members and the sponsors so they can get the events in ... The ATA turns a profit all the while the State of Illinois is going deeper and deeper in debt, so you know sooner or later the State will have to pull the plug even if they do not want to ... The Voters at some time or other will have shit fit over a play ground for shooters when other things cannot and do not get attended to (IDNR is taking major cuts due to the State financial status as well as many others ) ... I doubt if the Martin Family did or would purchase the WSRC even they could make it a profitable enterprise ... The facility may be the best there is available to any and all shooters in the United States but it is in the wrong location so it cannot and does not draw a crowd (supported by attendance records over the past 14 years ) ... Time will tell, then we will all know ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

I used to shoot telephonics all the time and the NorthBay League here still does. And I've shot in the wind and shot in the rain. BFD - that's got nothing to do with it. Weather is a non-issue. Few shooters no matter where they would be signed up would have any chance of winning anyway. ATA trap is a crap shoot to it's very core. And any shooter that did have a chance at winning would likely also have enough sense to shoot at a venue that would favor that. All I'm saying is that if a big participation is desired and all you have are semi- or inadequate facilities for a crowd - - - do something different. TabA/SlotB
And why worry about it anyway? It ain't gonna happen. The ATA has no interest in what the membership wants done. And a new facility anywhere up to a decent crowd is as unlikely as my ride on the next shuttle.

    Dear Roger
It is always a pleasure to assist the impaired. And I sympathize with your low tolerance for a variety of weather conditions.
I have no idea just how many tens of thousands of shooters you may be expecting but my experience over the last couple decades with the 'net and spreadsheets would lead me to suspect that the logistical nightmare would be intrinsic to the ATA handling it and nothing to do with the simple practicality of the technology that sits on the shelf - world wide.
