Hunt for Punkin Flock

I saw a flock of Pumpkins, Or was it a flock at Datona Beach Raceway,

Punkin was on the Boardwalk, at Ocean City, Md She had to check her Trapgun.

She was being Checked out by Many Men.

Am I the only person worried about Punkin being kept warm? The HOF had doors that blew open last year. It is sub zero now. Is the electric bill paid this year? Someone has to ask!

 

Let's hope she doesn't end up here.

 

I don't know

if Punkin is in danger or if she is safe, but in the last year she has to be very lonely. A very good shot and competitor and a very attractive lady. In my opinion if she hasn't been protected and kept safe it should be a hanging offense. No trial needed, just get the rope out. LOL

Dave you and I as HOF Members need to make our voice heard, I just wish the other living members would go on the record instead of just talking to me in private.

 

There is only one THOF Museum that attracts MANY trap shooters during the whole year, not just a couple of weeks (when allowed).

That is the Museum at the Cardinal Center.

That is the first place I would suggest Punkin' to live on forever. There aren't too many dedicated shooters who don't attend shoots there on a regular basis, so why not put her on display for all to see ?

She certainly would be among many of her friends who she shot with over the years.

 

History Seeker, I know that there is active talk about expanding the Ohio HOF Museum and I expect it to happen with in a couple of years, the covid 19 crap put a hold on some expansion plans at the CC but I expect them to ramp up pretty quickly after Trump is re elected.

Our economy here in Ohio is going gang busters. I wanted to buy some treated lumber the other day and Lowes and Mernards were out. With what the state of Illinois and the ATA has done to the vendors at Sparta the Cardinal Center is the last big venue for them to attend. The SCTP and NSSF proved that, so the opportunity to expand the HOF is there, and the Museum has some money in the bank...

 

The only remaining place to logically put the (relocate) HOF would be at Cardinal Center no matter what happens or don't happen with the WSRC and the State of Illinois ... The State under the guidance of Governor Pritzger is gathering more and more bad news almost on a daily basis, going from bad to even worse ... The HOF being a preservation entity of all shooters should be where the majority of shooters can enjoy it, that is obviously not in the State of Illinois based on attendance figures over the past 14 plus years ... If the Members of said HOF have any voice in the matter now would be the time for them to stand up and be counted so the Honor of the HOF can be retained for years to come ... Common sense does not seem to be in an over abundance within the confines of the ATA as an Association of the Members for the Members as it is right now ... The best move they (ATA) made in the past 20 years was to move the grand to Linn Creek, Mo this year, with any luck it will be there for years to come unless they can get the folks at Cardinal Center to host it which would be a better and more Logical move ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

On another thread about Targets, you mentioned that you thought the best smoke you ever got from a target was the all BLACK Eclipse targets.

I had several Eclipse targets but none of the all black. I have since bought two of these and will be sending one on to Betty Peterson to put into the Ohio (CC) museum with the rest of the targets. That way You and Dave Berlet can reminisce about the OLD days, and all of those different targets you broke.

Kenny if we could ever get you to come to one of our Cardinal shoots I could show you the Sternberger trophy that I won for being the jr handicap champion at the 1959 Ohio State Shoot. The trophy was donated by John and his dad Gus Sternberger. This was the first time that there was a trophy for the jr handicap champ. John Sternberger is now inshrined in both the Ohio State Trapshooting HOF and the National Trapshooting HOF.

History Seeker, There is also a flat black, no paint. That seems to be the painted target. I think White Flyer made the same target only black no paint, I'm not sure if eclipse did or not. Roger C.

 

Roger I am not sure but I believe the black targets that I shot at Fisher Brothers Shooting Park Findlay Ohio (fore runner to Jaqua;s) back in the early 1960's were Remington targets that simply were not painted. My understanding was that this was a joint experiment between the Remington Findlay target plant and the Fisher brothers. I don't have any documentation on this, but this is how I remember it. As far as i know they only threw the blacks at one shoot. I do remember that I broke 99 singles that day, which at that time I was very happy with that score. I don't know what I broke on the other 2 events or if I even shot them that day. Again trusting my memory they seemed to show up about as well as the yellow or orange dome targets did. I don't remember exactly when the color was changed from chrome yellow to florescent orange, but I'm thinking that may have been in the works at about that time. Maybe History Buff can help with that question?

Dave, Did the White Flyer buy the Eclipse target co. The unpainted targets that I used to set up machines with did not have a Co. name on them,as I remember, but I bought them from Whiter Flyer. The rest of the target was identical to the Eclipse target. Steve threw them painted black at the Las Vegas club and was well received. The unpainted were the best flying target ever made. I took another good look at my target and it does appear that the target must have been on a non rotating conveyor and the spray paint only hit a strip over the middle of the target. Both that I have do have these same markings. If you look at the picture I had posted, I believe you will see what I mean.

Now, the Eclipse I have with the White center is all flat black except for the paint in the center. That target is the third from the right, bottom row.

 

Roger, Also the White Flyer FLAT black, unpainted can be seen in the collection third UP, Second from the right, and there is also a Flat Black Northwest Target from Salem, Oregon bottom row far left. There sure were a variety of targets way back when. My collection is only a very small portion of what was available back then.

I am still looking for any information about the Canadian BRANDON Target Company target I found so many years ago. Many suggestions of where it may have been made, and from research it most likely was an offshoot of a company in Manitoba where they made bricks. It appeared that they may have made targets for a short period of time.
Even the Brandon historical society was assisting me, and they came up empty but did give me some other leads, as did Robert Lamont from that area.
I welcome any and all information that anyone may have on the Brandon target.

Is the target 2nd row from the bottom 2nd target from the left a Blue Rock? Black center, Yellow stripe, Black rim



The reason I asked is because I have 2 or 3 "sleeves" wrapped in newspaper dated 1936. The box was destroyed by water damage but he newspaper is in decent shape for being 84 years old.

That target you mention only says BLUE ROCK PIGEON around the top, with PAT'D, around the bottom of the center, and a huge 1 in the very center.

No mention of Remington on it at all. Other than that, it looks the same as yours.

I sure do like the fact you are preserving history.

 

I now wonder if this is an earlier version of the Blue Rock you have ?

I have 2 of these, and both of them have the same dull (flat) yellow paint on them.

 

I don’t want to be an alarmist but…..

The WSRC may soon be up for sale.

An attorney was on another thread long ago and implied that Punkin may soon belong to the State of Illinois. That is in his opinion according to the lease agreement agreement with Illinois.

 

Many thanks for bringing this post back up. I just couldn't help myself I just had to go through the the whole thing reading all the comments and looking at all the pictures. What is so sad is that so much of our trapshooting history was never recorded and is just simply gone. We all have to be so thankful for folks such as Dick Baldwin and history Buff. During the last several years the museum was at Vandalia it was very well watched over by Tami Danials, Dr. Lynn Parsons, and Kenny Ray. This post has brought back so many great memories.

If the WSRC sells, and the museum is liquidated , I wonder how much Punkin will be worth? She would be a great prize at the last grand. Wondering if she could be offered in a yardage group trophy or maybe appropriately a Class D prize. I hear she liked singles.

 

I saw Punkin when I visited the old hall of fame before it was moved.

I thought the manikin was really creepy.

It did not do this pretty lady justice.

 

The contents of the H.O.F. should be removed before any sale. Return the items to the families that donated it. They then can donate it back when a new H.O.F. is established, ( with new owners and the ata not involved.) IMHO of what action should be done. Roger C.
