If they could just get rid of that woods it would be great.

Fantastic pictures Family Guy! Thanks for taking the time to stop by and take photos.

Boy are you ever right about that woods! I think they found some wetland plant species or some strange little wetland critters in there so it became a "no touch" zone. With the addition of the shot screen the woods should only come into play on shoot - off trap 1. Right hand targets off of shoot off trap 1 almost disappear into the woods background. If the shot screen were run along the west side of the woods just a bit that would solve that issue as well. I can't wait to see this entire project complete. 5700 feet of shot screen! Simply amazing!

Was at practice with SCTP team last night and counted 12 sections completed, 4 panels per section. Moving along pretty good as there were only 3 sections completed last week.

I didn't make it out yesterday myself for my teams practice (wife's birthday), but it looks like they've made it past bank 4 and have reached the bunker. Excellent.

Sure wish curtains could be put in front of the area of trees in front of the shoot-off traps. Sure fix the poor view from trap 1, post 1 and 2.

The shooters will be getting spoiled with the "FIRST" class facilities having shot curtains to eliminate some of the problems with difficult back grounds ... Where Oh where, when oh when will it end ..? It will really be interesting to see the effect the curtains make on the targets as well as the scores ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

True, but while I did stipulate shoot-offs, that is a practice trap first. Having screens in front of those trees will give the same picture as the rest of the banks. Practice would be more useful if they had the same background. I would think it would only take one more set on the one side of the trees.

James the other alternative is do not shoot practice. Do not get in shoot offs or shoot practice. Problem solved

That's funny. I only signed up to the ATA this year after years of coaching the youth team. Now that both of my son's are shooting I thought it would be nice to shoot the occasional event with them. I'm just making some observations after years of watching and talking with others about the ugly background on practice trap 1. My oldest son Ryan has been in many shoot-offs over the years, and he isn't the only one that complains about the background from that clump of trees.

On the other note, I happen to know Columbus personally and he isn't full of anything. Happens to be a nice guy. Just like the rest of us he has his opinions about things. Ryan is still shooting the XT that his grandfather bought from Columbus 6 years ago.

James those trees are a problem, but only if you let them. I refused to shoot on one of them in a shoot off. They said they would put me on the trap in front of the trees and the short yarder I was shooting off with on a trap about 4 fields to my left.
My answer was no way. We will both shoot on the same field. She said OK you will shoot first. The light was not good, I lost 4 from the 27, He lost 8 from the 21. But we had a level playing field.
Columbus came on this site and started out as a shit stirrer. Roger C.

Well, back to the matter at hand; has anyone besides Luke and company shot a round with the new screens in place? A picture, taken from the 27 yd line, was posted on FB and a couple comments were regarding the gap at the bottom, one person said it was "ugly" (so what) and another was that the gap was going to cause some problems.

    27yd view.jpg

  29. James344

I could see a northerly wind maybe causing a problem if it came under the screen. Looks like it could blow straight at the house.

Seems like a great majority of the pattern would be directed at the top portion of the screen from the 27. I would expect enough of a drop by the time it gets there that it shouldn't be much of a problem.

I'm not on Facebook but did Luke say anything about the sound? Just curious if there is much of an echo, or maybe having that opening at the bottom will alleviate that.

I took this last night standing next to my son at the 16 on practice trap 3. There was a breeze from the NW so a left hand target would get caught and rise above the screen, but only after target was missed.

That’s my point of view. I took the picture before apogee more to give an idea of what the orange targets look like against the screen.

Roger, they’ve reached bank 6 at this point. I imagine they’ll be through by the Buckeye Open, if not the Karen’s Cup. They’re even paving the drive along the screen as well.

As I thought, was there for practice with the Cardinal Youth Shooters last night and the screen is down to around bank 8. If the hustle, they could be done by the Karen's Cup next week, but if delayed by impending weather probably by Buckeye.

Don't know about the food, couldn't get seated. All the staff was in the back corner yakking and my wife and I waited and waited and waited at the "hostess will seat you" sign and even though some of them looked right at us we were never acknowledged. There were two people at the bar and two families at the high top tables -no food anywhere, no aromas, nothing. Gave up and drove back to Cbus for dinner. The bar/grill is the left side of the building, the main restaurant area that was there before is now gutted and under construction- don't know what the plans are. This picture from the Legacy Bar and Grill website shows the area in business now. The seating you see is about all that's available. Used to seeing this place packed with shooters and their families, scores on the screen etc.

Curious how others have fared shooting with the screens.?. I shot Karen's Cup on bank 1 which was all screened and came in below average. Shot the Buckeye today on bank 11, above average, which may be strange since it was a 'half and half' screen situation. 11A had no screens (score 23), 11B was half screened (score 24), while 11C and 11D the screens are fully completed (scores 24 and 25 respectively).

So how did ya'll do and how do you like the screens? I'm in favor overall.

Roger Covelski the screens are on all traps BUT the last Trap on Bank 12, Majority say you see the target Quicker, and Better, one shooter said he had a few go over the Screen, I took a Picture of them off the Porch in front of Jaquas, FRIDAY AFTERNOON, You can hear the shot hit the curtains, the screens seem close, do not know the exact distance from the Trap, My guess is approx. 50 yards, My comment is, They look Great, target scores should go up in all events.

The mug of Beer was too big for me, Drank half of it, that was Plenty, mugs were cold but not Frosted from a freezer..The Fish was Talipia, it was good, their Shrimp was was like a rubber tire, could not Chew it, Clams were good, I got the Fish Platter/Plate. My wife and I were there at just after 3. One booth occupied in the restaurant side. First thing we saw was the wet, dirty bar towel on the hostess stand. No hostess. Employees walked by a number of times without saying anything - finally got seated and given a menu - no water - she didn't even ask. Did say she'd try to find someone on the bar side to come over and take care of us. She didn't, and no one came. Counted five employees (including the one who seated us) looking at their phones, BSing in the kitchen area and another came out with a plate of food and sat down to eat. We sat there and looked at the staff run around, looked at the empty tables with dirty dishes still on them and finally left - that's the second time we've tried the place and had the same outcome. Did talk to a young guy as we were leaving (red hair, ratty orange t-shirt) who identified himself as the manager. Told him what happened (both times)and told him were steady customers in the past but would not likely be back. His exact comment was "sorry you feel that way, have a nice day". Don't know who put up the money to redo this place but if they don't get some people on staff with BIG customer service skills - I think it's doomed.

Having watched several events there this week with my sons shooting, the targets were a lot higher on the weekend then that were during the week. Part of that could have been the north wind, but I think part of it is because it seems like the target setters consistently change the height of the targets from the week to the weekend. They seem to always be different. If they're on the low side during the week, they'll be high on the weekend just like this week, or vice versa.
