Anytime there are trophies donated by the ATA there should be a rule mandating factory loads bought on the grounds of the shoot.

Get rid of the roll yer own mentality. Jmho

I think the ATA has some exposure by allowing novices to use reloads.

Hell yeah, I remember those days. Standing in line at the shell house before a big ATA registered shoot, buying a couple flats of factory loads right there on the grounds, same shells everyone else was running. No guessing if the guy next to you spent all winter tinkering with his reloads trying to shave a few thousandths off his pattern or squeeze out an extra yard. Just pure, level playing field.

A lot of posts on here are complaining about the cost of things…you want to make it more expensive?

Also- if you think you’re getting beat at ATA trap because of the shells…you’re not.

It isn't about the cost. It is about the rewards. The ATA destroyed the handicap system. The shells are faster. The targets are easier. The lust for the big payday is gone.

Then they made it even more expensive with the creepy move.

The ATA chased the blue collar shooter away. Removing factory ammo removed the ammo companies.

The handicap system is a different subject, I have no idea why you’re bringing that into this equation. Removing ammo companies? I don’t know about around you but years ago a lot more people shot reloads than they do now. Also your comment about faster shells is irrelevant in this discussion because…they would be selling 1250 FPS shells, like they did at the Grand (in Vandalia, too).

You don't need bazooka load shells to win @ handicap--Devon Harris won the $100K prize a few years ago shooting light 8 Federal Papers

Back in the "shell house days" the only time you could purchase the hot loads the Big Shooters got for free was at the Vandalia Shell House. If you know the ammo game, hotter runs are set aside. Guess who gets those.

When you got a flat of shells that said Grand American you could tell the difference. Fed papers at Vandalia were the rage!

Today's lite ammo is what the 3 dram used to be. The faster is 3 1/4 dram equivalent.
Lots of my friends purchased the Vandalia ammo for Dove.

Factory ammo only. Bring back the shell house.

Exactly. Mandating factory loads for any ATA donated trophies is the only way to keep it fair and safe. Roll your own culture should’ve been dead years ago stop normalizing it and let the factory boys run it.

Unless you can convince the ammo mfg to provide shells at production cost, the cat is long out of the bag. It's a bit of a head scratcher why shells are MORE expensive at the grand than pretty much anywhere else.

    News to me?
    Can someone confirm the price?

Those prices are, eyeballing and comparing a few, on average about $10 flat a case higher than Dawson or CAC is presently, 2 months later.

The premium shells are nearly double what I can reload performance equivalent shells for.

Why? Doesn't the ATA promote trapshooting? More money in the slush fund? I will bet no one will demand an answer from their delegate.

He was stating fact that you can get these shells cheaper at 2 locations that anyone can go buy shells at than the Grand American trapshoot. Why would you ask him what the reason for that is? You should go to your delegate and the ATA, maybe even the manufacturers of these shells for this answer. Not someone pointing out facts- and you can go to their websites and fact check him if you like- I would have said that they’re probably about $15 more per flat than CAC (I didn't look at Dawson’s prices but I don’t shop there as much).

    10 Point.....
The OP is about buying shells at the ammo house at the Grand. Not shopping around. Try to keep up. Dawson dumped the Grand. Try to keep up.

The question / word "why" was aimed at everyone. I am guessing that is why you felt you could answer. Try to keep up.

I like Trout's price chart. Obviously the ATA isn't about creating any attendance. They had the lowest attendance / participation since the Korean War. Maybe no more would go if the ammo was free. The SCTP rejected free targets at the WSRC.

I reject the idea about telling the Delegates. They are there for a parking space and a free gun. (Except for the EX VP that filed false police report). No gun for you!

I don't need to fact check anyone. I believe Skeetman. Why doesn't the ATA care about ammo prices at the Grand? Maybe it is because they don't have much pull since the few that go can roll their own. The new ATA leadership isn't what it used to be.
