It's sad that I heard the Dr. Longshot has died. Doc was a rabid game shooter, something that I never mastered myself. He wasn't a 200 straight man but could break 35 yard back ups and 4 and 5 hole angles seemingly at will. My fondest memory about Doc is of him and Big Don in the Grudge Match at the Ohio State shoot many years ago when trap shooting was fun.

Doc posted a lot on this web page over the years and trap shooting has lost another colorful fellow.

    Brad....
BIG DON was the 10-1 betting favorite in the grudge match. Those that knew Doc understood BD didn't stand a chance. Few people knew the predictable outcome.

Promoting the Grudge Match gave the OSTA and the CC a lot of attention. We had great leaders then.

Trap shooting has never been a spectator sport. But the grudge match was the exception, it was a blast to watch and myself and all the others watching were hanging on every shot. Kudos to both Doc and Big Don for putting on a show that will never be duplicated. RIP Doc, you were one of a kind.

Rest in peace Doc. Remembering back to the Grudge Match it was really an exciting time. So many commenting on it on this site, the betting board being set up and everyone placing a bet on their favorite and in general the interest it created for our sport and the money it raised for charity made it a one time classic. It is so sad to realize that both combatant's are gone to that great trapshoot in the sky that we all hope to attend sometime. Great memories from an event that I was able to witness and enjoy and consider both contestants friends of mine. I believe that it would be quite appropriate to have a bronze plaque behind the trap where it occurred and describing what it was so this piece of our history is never lost or forgotten.

That's a gut punch Doc was a trap house wizard, owning those 35 yard screamers like it was nothing. That Grudge Match with Big Don? Pure gold from trap's golden era.

I've heard all about the grudge match but know nothing about it. Can someone give a summary? When it took place, what was involved, etc.?

About the time this forum was getting ready and the Cardinal Center was in its infancy, an argument started between Dr Longshot, Neil Winston, and BIG DON. BD was a SR All American. Dr Longshot was not a 200 straight shooter (quoting Brad Dysinger). He was an accomplished ATA Shooter, and was great at the games. Doc had been accused of being a target manager.

The argument was typical of this forum. Longshot was angry at Neil Winston for making the targets easier. He publicly pointed at Winston for using his power within the ATA for allowing faster ammo.

BIG DON often publicly berated Doc for his stance on the easy targets and faster shells. Doc redponded by saying BD couldn't hit a wide target or any target without illegal ammo. And the gloves came off. The online harrassment was harnessed by Brad Dysinger and his OSTA leaders. I think Brad was either OSTA President or Tournament Director. Brad lead a great Board of Directors.

The feud would be decided at the OSTA State Shoot. Fast wide angles at 35 yards. 50 with hot factory shells and 50 with 1200 fps ammo.

There was to be gambling and plenty of partying. The winner would get a brick on the OSTA HOF Walk of Fame. The loser got a Donkeys Ass Buckle. A lot of money was raised for charity.

Doc was said to be the 10-1 underdog. But those that shot with Doc knew BIG DON had stepped into a trap. The cheering was loud with music from Rocky.

    The temperature was mid 90's

Doc was wearing an old white T-shirt and dirty green work pants. BD looked sharp in nice clothes. I thought he looked like was going to the beach boardwalk. Doc slept in his old Buick with air conditioning on until the last minute. BD walked around shaking hands.

Doc called for the first target. It was a fast wide left angle. He smoked it. The crowd suddenly silenced. BD got a straight away and missed. Doc continued to destroy targets. BD looked like an amateur. He missed 4 of the first 10. The crowd was stunned.

I reported the affair live on a worn out site. I was typing as fast as possible. Mentioning the Cardinal Center was taboo. I got booted. And thats how the forum started.

We joked how we got 1,000 people to watch two shooters nobody liked. Somehow we grew to love both of them. It was the greatest trapshooting spectacle in this century.
