Hello all, new member here and enjoying all the info on this site. Can anyone share the differences, pros, cons, etc. between these three Krieghoff SBT models? I have shot a friend's KX-5 and really liked it but am wondering how they all compare to one another. Thanks.

KX-6 rollover comb, Harlan Cambell influenced Krieghoff, he used the design and specs that the late Dennis DeVault used on his K 80 stock as a criteria for the perfect SBT gun--the biggest difference is gunfit

Barrel length, rib configuration, and stock dimensions are where you’ll notice the subtle differences.

The KS-5 has a different forearm attachment than the KX5 or 6. The KS-5 and KX-5 use the top lever to cock the gun while the KX 6 uses a traditional forearm mechanism. The KS-5 does not have the same forearm metal that attaches to the receiver. The KX-6 uses a cheaper wood with "enhanced" wood grain.

Besides the different cocking with the lever is there a difference in feel? One of my trap buddy uses it and runs 25 with KS all the time. I only shouldered it but it fit great. I don't see many out there much more KXs...

    • You are talking about a 30 plus year old gun.1983–1996: The KS-5 was manufactured by Krieghoff in Ulm, Germany, specifically to fill a niche in the U.S. trapshooting market. Krieghoff International, Inc., was founded in Pennsylvania in 1986 to serve as the sole U.S. importer. 1997 -1998 they came out with the KS5 special by adding an adjustable rib. All four models still use the same Tigger mechanics. 1000000209.jpg

I haven't see much of any of them on the used market.

I owned a KX5 Special and shot it well. Ran my first hundred with it. It is probably one of the most "robustly" built single barrels ever made. They are a tank, and with minimal maintenance will run forever. My only complaint, and it's a big one, was the recoil. Mine beat me up...so I sent it down the road. In retrospect, I wish I had kept it and had a custom stock done for the gun, but back in the day that just wasn't often done. I also had a KX6 and found it to be a nice gun and soft shooting...just couldn't shoot a good score with it.

also, the KX-6, barrel was designed to be a mid barrel--less recoil

Out of all four I had The KS special with the adjustable rib was a nice update, and it had a Gracoil recoil system. Didn't like the fake wood on the KX6, Love my new KX6 special with the roll over comb.

I purchased a pre-owned KX-5 and really enjoyed everything about it. I have owned quite of few guns including a Perazzi MT-6 but quite frankly not close to that gun.I did sell it do to lack of shooting and could not justify keeping it.In regards to a rollover stock I shoot one on my 870 and quite frankly a soft shooting option.
