I have received some strange reports about how the OSTA handled the shoot off assignment for the Resident Singles Championships. Why weren't the singles Championships held in front of the Grandstands? 7 shooters divided into 4 traps.

    Who watched this?

    I report. You decide.

As far as I'm concerned it was a perfect example on how NOT to do it. The 7 shooters shooting for their State Singles championship were squadded 1 shooter on trap 3, 1 shooter on trap 4, 4 shooters on 5D and 1 shooter on trap 5C. The 2nd round with 3 shooters still tied they were sent out on trap 5C as far from the bleachers as they could possibly get them. The 3rd and final round the 2 remaining shooters were put on trap 4 at least a little closer to the bleachers. Then it seemed to be quite a chore until each name was finally put in the correct trophy position.

I'd love to hear the reasoning behind this, as the only thing i can think of is that each Class was squadded by itself. Talk about making things difficult!!! I could see HDCP being split due to yardage, but not Singles. I'm surprised one of the OSTA directors didn't question it??

I think, don't know for sure, but the unused traps did not have any targets left. I say this after talking to the practice trap help on Sunday.

Kind of a feeble excuse since they were holding other shootoffs on those traps while the State Championship shooters were scattered to the sunset and back and the skid loader was sitting very close with a skid full of targets on the prongs. Also I was told that the tournament director and the president left before the shoot offs were completed leaving Tad&Liz short handed in the shootoff building!!!

I was an osta director for the first 7 years that the CC held the Ohio State Shoot, and the TD for the last 6 years. The shoot offs back then were run by the osta directors but Sue Kaufman headed it by keeping the nuts and bolts of what Dave is talking about NOT happening back then. Sue and Aden both were excellent gun club managers with lots of experience running shootoffs and the importance of them when a State Title is at stake.

I've heard much of what merlo is talking about from this years shoot off and what I was told the TD and the osta president both left before the shoot offs were over so they would have NO idea what happened. It is too bad but leardership matters and from what I now the OSTA today is a very long way from the board I was proud to be a member of. The number of shooters that go the the STATE shoot is much lower than back when I was on the board. In those years we had as many non resident shooters as residents. I don't' know the numbers today as I no longer care about the osta or ata, those years have long past. It makes me sad to see the state of trap shooting but I can say I did warn everyone over and over so be it.
