Live from the Buckeye Classic at the Cardinal Center

Strong gusty winds today. Targets are somewhat challenging. Good thing I am only shooting practice today!

No official Big Don sightings.

Sitting under the pavilion. Pulled pork sandwiches are fantastic. Haven't had a cream stick from
"8 Sisters Bakery" yet.

Back at the pavilion near the bbq grills.

Have been walking the long boardwalk meeting the new vendors. Place keeps getting bigger and my legs older.

So far the best part of the day was Dave Berlet walking by...turning around and sitting beside me as I started typing. Dave confirmed that there has not been an official Big Don sighting. He had a poker face....have a feeling they are shooting together.

This is heaven. Time for a Fishburn Burger.

Are the new buildings filled with vendors? I'm going to try and make the OSTA shoot this year. Save me some of the cream sticks.

FYI, BIG DON is at the Cardinal. Saw him a couple of times today.

 

Dad and I had a good time. The targets were tough caused by the wind. Shot at AJ's was only $35 so we bought some. I am always a big CC fan and cheerleader. I was disappointed today in one regard and that was that multiple color targets were being thrown. As we watched the targets being set on the East end, I noticed that some white targets with black rims were being thrown. We didn't see anymore white targets during our events, but a guy in our handicap squad said the he saw some in the singles program. We did see on bank three, D trap, some faded orange/pink targets during the handicap event. I have never shot pink targets, but I know they have had some events at the CC with pink targets. I have previously seen at other clubs some orange targets that got wet/old and they look very pale orange. These pale ones were very difficult to see. I don't know if they were pink or just poor orange. According to RJ's # it looks like day one at the Buckeye was up a BIG %!

Back at the pavilion. They have the golf cart that is being given away. It is parked just a few feet away.

 

As I type this I can taste the apple fritters, will miss this event this year due to surgery that I had this morning, no shooting for 6 weeks is what hurts the most.

Correction....the fancy golf cart and trailer shown above are for the Ohio State Shoot.

The total prizes and cash is around $60,000.

 

6 hours at work on Saturday will give me 65 for the week. You either have the time to shoot and not enough money or plenty of money and no time.

More pictures will at least give me something to look at when I am home.

Live again from the Buckeye it is the day of the big singles event. Shooters are starting to roll in. The first call has been made. It is time for the first squads. This place will be packed soon. Not yet.

Very overcast with a slight breeze at 9 am.

What's up at the CC? Three out of three singles attendance was up & two out of four 'caps attendance was down. Is OH going soft and becoming a "singles state"?

That was really cold telling us about the cream filled donut. I hope they have them at the state shoot. Roger

 

219 squads in the singles event today. A lot of SCTP shooters. These young people are great for continuing our sport. The last couple of squads got caught in some rain, but it passed quickly and the event finished with plenty of time for shootoffs. I've had a great week here. Great days with some rain in the evenings. Over 100 squads for each event. Wednesday was a little slow with only about 60 squads for each event. If you have not been here, what's stopping you? Hotels close and great shopping for the ladies who do not shoot. Indoor pool and small fishing pond.

 

I forgot to mention vendors. A lot of new vendors this time and I imagine they will be back for the State shoot June 20th. If you need repairs or supplies this is the place, even if you don't shoot any of the events. A lot to see.

 

It is slowly turning into another Grand American, love it.

I arrived at Cardinal Center Saturday at 8:00 am was on the west end vendor row in my wheel
chair visited numerous vendors could not get wheelchair to traverse the gravel to the Pavillion.
I stayed until 2:00 PM. I had help from friendly shooters unloading and loading my wheelchair.
Shoot was up again on singles championship, camping area was full as well as the parking lot.
It was great seeing some on=ld friends and meeting new ones.

Gary, when do you get your new foot and become mobile again?

 

Depends on how long it takes to remove it from bigdons butt. With all the noses of the chosen few up there with it, it might take a while.

Participated in the handicap. Had the opportunity to have by random draw a regular from our forum. I won't say his name but he outshot me. Not once but twice. (he can mention his name if he wants) By chance we shot together on singles as well.

The handicap was a pure downpour. For a few posts the end of my barrel was at best a rumor.

Thanks to all you out there in trapshooting land that introduced yourself and or spent time with me talking about the forum. I was amazed how many regular lurkers we have. (not talking about Shemp, Larry, Moe and Curly).

We have hundreds of photos for the site of vendors, kids, pooches, and sights of the week. Those that have never made the trip may feel differently.

Special thanks to "8 Sisters Bakery". The food was great. I gained 10 pounds. We will have an interesting story upcoming on these sisters. Many of you will be consumed by the topic and outcome.

 

If everything goes well they will start fitting me June 11th, and then 8-10 days I will have it, that is the latest news they gave me May 27th

I enjoyed meeting you and shooting with you. It's nice to be able to put a face with a name/handle. I wasn't trying to out shoot you. I was trying to out shoot that little guy in all our heads that says 'Go ahead drop one and all the pressure will be off.'

I can only comment based on the pictures but it sure looks like a beautifull and great place to hold a trap shoot ... I got it on my list of things to do ... PRIDE written all over it ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

 

Even the grass looks cut too-not like that other place farther West!

 

Some of the pictures look like astro-turf.

 

It ought to be green with all the monsoon rains they had this week. The other place has had drought problems the last few years and it's tough to grow grass, but then you have to knock them for something, right.

Really, the grass color, or even the lack of grass, is a small minor thing. You can't control the weather.
There has to be a better reason than that for only around 1600 people shooting the last GAH

And just to be fair, this is just the first of June. By August that grass will be pretty brown, too

 

more for the SCTP crowd.

 

Looking at all these pictures and I realized I'm ready for July to get here. When all those kids and parents see the Cardinal in the summer sun it will be something. I know how much I used to look forward to August in Vandalia and I bet in a few years there will be a lot of young shooters looking forward to July in Marengo, Ohio. Brad

There is some very good (great ) information about the Cardinal Center on facebook.com, really shows the entire lay out of the place and all of the amenities ... It truly put any other place to shame if you watch it closely .. This being in an area that is not remote and off the beaten path makes it a shooters dream, talk about impressive ... Its on my bucket list, hopes sometime this summer ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
