Our Club has a Skeet Field, three Trap Fields and a 5-Stand Field. I would like a recip for a shoot using all of these Fields. The timing is what most concerns me, want all events to take same time ? Doesn't have to be 125 Targets either. Maybe all Doubles on Skeet 1-6, and 4 Report Pairs 5-stand ? Someone said try not moving on the 5-stand just chage targets ? Must be loads of fun !

Tim where all trap shooter. I mostly prefer to just shoot trap. 2 hole, 3 hole, 50-52 yards and I'm happy.
That being said if your skeet fields overlay the trap fields you have a ton of possibilities.

Most use the skeet stations and shoot a mix of the trap and Skeet targets.
If you google Skrap or Chinese trap you will see a few variations.

You could do a Pendleton, a 16yard, and a handicap based on 16yard scores on trap fields. Use 5stand as low mount shoot. And set trap in middle of skeet field in a box to hide oscillation and use skeet pads (skrap).

Our club installed an 8 machine five stand layout back in 1995. We ran a number of Skeet, 5 Stand, Doubles, Singles, Handicap programs.

Skeet.....22 targets, Doubles twice from stations 1,2,6,7. Singles 3,4,5 NO station 8 used. You would think this would be the slowest event but you ain't seen nothing until you see 5 guys that never shot a 5 stand event.

5 Stand.....25 targets, One single, 2 pair. DON'T make the pairs tough. It will take too long for the new shooter to figure out where they are coming from. DO use the guys that run your 5 stand to man that part of the competition. Get extra help to stand behind the new guys. They can tell the shooter where to look on the next targets they will get.

Singles...25 targets, this gives the full time trap shooters an edge but the skeet shooters already had their chance the first 22 targets.

Doubles....20 targets, 2 pair from each station. If you want you can throw old style doubles. CRANK em up!

Caps....25 targets from the 25 yard line. You can choose any yardage you want. Most of the guys that shot ours could handle the 25 just fine but you can pick what you think will work best for you. AT LEAST the 23.

Put the number 1 shooter in each squad in charge of getting his squad to the next field. Trust me, they will want to stand around and BS with the guys coming onto the field and THAT IS A KILLER to the time schedule.

We didn't offer options on any one event. That would have been too easy, and it would have cut up any pot way too much. Who wants to split a pot 12 ways and win just a few dollars? Come to think of it, that sounds like the present day ATA. Use the Lewis class and just have fun. We had a steak dinner included in the entry fee. Free soft drinks/ice tea with the meal. The poker game went WAY into the night.

NOW HERE IS THE REALLY HARD PART! You have to get LOTS of help. We had good shooters from the skeet and 5 stand fields helping the new guys. The singles, doubles and caps usually take care of themselves. We had two guys running the kitchen and one member just cooking the steaks. PLAN, PLAN, then PLAN some more. If you are going to do this later on in the year and it is hot, HAVE water for them to drink.

Get everyone together before it starts. Explain to the helpers what they MUST do. If the thing starts to stall and you get backed up too much you will never be able to shoot this type of event again. People remember the bad shoots too. A little back up is OK. The next squad will get to watch the last couple of shooters and that just adds to the fun.

We also had an extra battue machine set up for anyone that wanted to shoot a 10 target money event. A lot of the guys did this before or after their squad had gone through the main program. You don't have to have that machine. Just set up a long bird or something a little tougher.

The number one question we heard when the dust settled and the smoke cleared was, When are you guys doing this again?

    Good luck,

But you didn't say where your club is located?
    Inquiring minds want to know!

I didn't post the name because they will never put on that kind of shoot again. Like I did say, it takes a lot of help. One other member and myself ran the 5 stand every Friday night, without fail, all year for over five years. I'm surprised our wives didn't divorce us.
When we couldn't put that much time in any longer, for a number of reasons, the club couldn't find two crazies like us to promote the event.

Thanks, Flyersarebest, but I was actually asking Tim.
I like to support folks making a new venture if I can.
