We have more states legalizing pot. Are we capable of policing the sport?

Arizona voted it down, surprises me actually because of the taxes they could of and would of collected ... Pot can be had from any of the Mexican Landscapers (must be a side line) so its not like its not available, only illegal ... I tried smoking it a few times, puts me to sleep and makes me cough like all get out ... My cousin gives it to his dog for aches and pains , she is old and acts like a puppy ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

When the shooter next to you has his jacket on backwards and is using the hood as a snack trough, ...........you better keep an eye on him!:p:eek:

It seems that the way things work now if those that do not work for a living, or if government can make tax revenue, or if "everyone" is using it that whatever the liberal crap might be......... GO FOR IT. Much like sanctuary cities.
Because its common or even "legal" that does not make it right. Larry

Alcohol has been legal to purchase since the end of prohibition but we don't allow it on the trap line.

I do not condone drugs or the use of under any circumstances (normally), that being said when my Mother was on her death bed dying of Cancer the Doctor actually mentioned to us that Pot "might " relieve some of the discomfort she was experiencing .... My Brother who was a Chicago Police Officer left the hospital for about 1/2 hour and came back with a healthy bag of Pot, as well as a few rolled up joints ... My Mother was not a smoker or drinker, she reluctantly took a few puffs and she said she actually felt some relief from the pain ... I will never forget watching her lay there waiting and I think hoping to die , but I think the pot might of helped her relax and ease some of her pain ... I hope it did, and miss her every day ... States that allow the recreational use of pot still issue DUI and public intoxication tickets. You can even get those while taking only prescriptions as prescribed by a doctor. I expect responsible gun clubs will still enforce rules where partaking in alcohol and other intoxicating substances ends your shooting for the day. I've never tried pot and you can count the beers I drink in a year on one hand, so I don't see the attraction. I like to be in control of my mind, body and emotions. But I've never been in the shoes of those who do. I do believe that many medical issues have effects that pot may increase the quality of life of those afflicted, though.

Do the rules ban the use of pot?

So many years ago I led a LRRP group. There were and are all kinds of written rules and regulations about things. The world I lived in was (and still is) controlled by my mind and the welfare of myself and others depended on my decisions and directions. Use of pot, other drugs and even cigarettes resulted in immediate elimination from the group... nothing has changed. We must learn to police ourselves instead of waiting for someone to either write or find a rule. It is up to us.... Larry

Make up a rule. Self police that way?

Can we also set the traps to any setting?

I would hope we would stay on point....... Pot at shooting events....... until a point in time when sanity returns to the world it is going to be up to the individual to make sure things do not get out of hand.
Self policing does not even infer one makes up rules only that eyes are open, we are aware of our surroundings and we insure the safety of ourselves and our fellow shooters.......
You can already set the traps wherever you might choose to........ but you are violating existing rules, self policing insures we do not.......... Larry

Given the new clarification on the 4473 it would seem even ownership is a no no if you use it.

Question 11.e asks if the person filling out the background check is “An unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana” among other controlled substances. It has a new warning that points out that marijuana use remains “Unlawful under Federal law regardless of whether it has been legalized or decriminalized for medicinal or recreational purposes” under state law.

This indeed will create challenges.... Oregon has legalized use..... answer truthfully and perhaps some cannot purchase........ lie and face the consequences at perhaps some future date. Interesting thing is that there is no way the truth can be verified by the selling ffl dealer and unless there has been a prior arrest neither can the state. Larry

Some I would imagine take a handful of prescription drugs everyday. Probably a good percentage of those have warnings that would eliminate trap from the activities.

Personally, I can't imagine anyone that smokes pot is going to be a even somewhat serious trapshooter and be high while trapshooting. If they are doing it now because it is legal, they sure as hell did it before when it wasn't. You will never know the difference.

Drinking on the other hand, at non ATA events I have seen it relax quite a few people in moderation. Makes them a nervous wreck at ATA shoots though.

There are more serious things to worry about, like release trigger use.

I know and have heard of people who give their older animals (Dog's and Cats) HEMP (form of pot ) to help relieve some of the aches and pains, even the ability to get around as they grow older ... I am going to ask my Vet about it next time I have to take the Dog in, to see if by chance its BS or not ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
