It looks like Alec Baldwin’s charges will be dropped. Would the same happen if we picked up a gun off the rack in or near a clubhouse? “thought it was empty”!

    It was a tragic accident.
    Could it have been prevented?
    Yes, we all know that

And I don't pick guns up at trap shoots and point them at anyone. That was a movie set. They do that.

And as was stated above I wasn't there so it's none of my business.

If they are dropped, I will be shocked. It seemed from news about it ( not sure you can trust that source). Involuntary Manslaughter

When you pick up a gun it is your responsibility to make sure it is NOT loaded before you do anything else and he didn't do this. I don't see how they could drop the charges unless money changed hands.

Point taken. But it was a movie set so it was the armorer's responsibility not the actors. The armorer is responsible for all of the weapons and ammunition. Not the actors

And on a side note what was the weapon loaded with. We don't know. Are we assuming it was live ammo? None of us were there. Blank's can definitely be fatal at close range. And yes he pulled the trigger. But should the gun have been loaded? I don't know, I wasn't there.

There is plenty of information about what happened and how it happened on the web. Here is the short version.

Baldwin is one of the producers, that job usually entails hiring the people working on the project.

The armorer he hired was the daughter of the legend, Thell Reed. ( if you don’t know the name, google it) she is fairly new to the business. She had been an assistant on a few projects but this was pretty much her first as the head honcho. She was less expensive than most. It definitely was her job to handle and police the weapons. There is more than enough blame to go around though.

There WAS live ammo on the set. It seems some of the stunt guys and Reed’s assistants like to take a few weapons off set and do a little recreational shooting during off hours. It didn’t say if she participated in that.

Just my WAG as to how it happened

The boys do a little shooting and return the guns back to their supposedly safe locked up area.
    They don’t check every pistol
Reed’s daughter either didn’t know they took the guns or she knew and SHE didn’t check.
The day of the “accident “ one of the “prop” guns is handed to Baldwin
NO ONE has followed any type of safety protocols and that live round had the been in the cylinder for God knows how long.
Baldwin THINKS it’s empty. He never checked. It wasn’t even a scene that was being filmed, it was a rehearsal.

    Ready and,,,Action

That was longer than I wanted but so many things were screwed up on that set I couldn’t make it any shorter. BTW, some people quit the production before this happened due to what they said was a lack of safety rules. Overall one giant cluster.

From what I’ve read the reason the charges were dropped is because the prosecutor’s office brought a charge that was too tough to prove. Where have we heard that before.

So, if a gangbanger shoots someone, but claims a friend handed him a gun and said it was "cold," points it at someone else and pulls the trigger killing that person, does his charges also get dropped?
