I'm sure someone on here can help. Me? I never liked playing around with electricity.

I was wondering if any fellow sparky/trapshooters posted here.....not seeing it coming does make it kinda scary....just gotta treat it like a gun....ALWAYS treat it like it's loaded until you KNOW otherwise(or energized). Only been zapped really good once in 39 yrs. 480 sure will make a believer of you.

Just what is it you are looking for ? You can see it if you touch two wires together of opposite polarity (dc) or different phases of AC touched together without a suitable load between them.

Need more info, was in the trade for 55 years before retiring in 2005. 480 is one of the deadliest voltages to work with. Most union rules require two people present when working with 480 live. Anything above that requires rubber gloves, mats and hot sticks and such, and and a fair amount of knowledge.

Hi August, was wondering if any other posters are electricians and what type of work involved in.

I have done ALOT of work in wire plants myself....Carol Cable, Pacific Electricord/Amer. Insulated Wire and several smaller outfits.

I have been in working in the electrical industry since 1959. I retired from the IBEW in 1996. Since then I have been working as an electrical engineer and have no intention of retiring at this point. I manage my jobs and can take off to go trapshooting or bass fishing as I wish.
I have worked on or supervised traffic signal work, high rise buildings, shopping centers, line construction, office buildings and prisons. As an engineer I have worked on pump stations, well sites, waste treatment plants, fresh water plants, casinos, libraries, various municipal buildings, substations and jails.
