Well I'm losing my home Trap Field.

Well the local CG has decided that everyone needed to register their firearms to use the Ft. Bliss Rod and Gun Club. Match directors are rushing to find a place to hold their matches. Ducks Unlimited has moved their match from Ft. Bliss to another area club. We have heard from those in New Mexico that they have no intention of attending our matches as long as this new Reg is in force. Our match is up in the air and is probably dead. I like many others are stuck with Trap Cards @ $80 each that are useless unless we want to register our guns.

Is the Club on Ft. Bliss property. Yes it is but it's not within the fence line, In fact there are no gate guards to access the club from city roadways. There are over 2200 dues paying members (most are civilians, retired military and veterans) plus Life Members and daily civilian use of the range. We have a Pro Shop, Restaurant, Bar, meeting rooms and big screen TV's to keep the shooter happy after a day on the range. Things are not well here in West Texas.

Sorry, but government has the tendency to come back and bite you in the butt when you are not looking. I would suspect it is a ploy to rid the reservation of the gun club. We have lost several gun clubs where I live on government land since 9/11. If anyone's club is on government land, it will only be a matter of time.

I guess if the Pro shop remains open, everybody can sit around, drink beer and complain about how the BOD and EC of the ATA ruined trapshooting by reducing the angles of the birds and failed to add 3 yards of concrete.

    :p

I have a very good friend who lives in Illinois, has been involved in politics for most of his life and he says that the Governor is going to make a fly over and see what all of the hoop la is all about .... Those that are there better make it look extremely busy and full of people if they want to put on a good show for the Governor ... He was not sure what day its supposed to happen or if the Governor will land and drop in or not, so there you have it ... Make sense in a weird kind of way ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

    LadyT,
Can we safely assume that the rule to register your guns is a club only rule, if this is so do you know what prompted the club to make/enforce this new rule. Just curious as to why the sudden change.

This new Reg came down either from the CG or someone above him. Regardless the club will be empty soon. People will lose jobs and money that used to go into the MWR fund won't thereby hurting programs that help the Soldiers and their Family's on Post. Not a single person has found out why. I could see it if we were inside the Post Fence Line but we are not. It's also a choice of the CG to do this.

My costs just skyrocketed from $3.65 per 25 targets when you buy a 10 pack of trap cards to $6 per 25 plus a doubling of mileage and without the bar,pro shop, restaurant and days open to shoot.

    LadyT,
The question I asked was do you know what prompted the action was there an incident at the club, local area or do you think this the result of the atmosphere presently in the country. Not trying to be obstintant just would like to know. Thanks

    Don't make it not high.

$6.00 for the round, $6.00 for the shells. That's $12 for 10 minutes of easy targets. $12 isn't insignificant.

Wednesdays at Vienna I pay $3.00 for a round. We shoot a slightly wider angle and 51 yard targets.

You do not have to tell me I am fortunate. You do not have to tell me it may not be here sometime. I am more fortunate to be around people that understand what it takes to make the sport successful.

    Let's see,

    33.00 a hundred times 3.........99.00 for targets, 100 singles, 100 handicap, and 50 doubles
    7.oo in daily fees........................7.00
12 boxes of shells @6.00.........72.00 for cheap shells at that. Cost would be 96.00 for Preimum
Options anyone?.....................60.00 for Lewis and class/yardage purses @ 10.00 each
So targets, shells, entry fees. 238.00 Not counting gas and meals.

Just one day's worth of shooting at a typical ATA and people say we are losing shooters because the game is too easy?

    Bad attitude.

The states that are paying the least in fees have worked to make the sport more interesting. They have found the recipe for creating more demand for targets. The more demand the more cheaply targets can be distributed. The cheaper they are distributed the cheaper the cost.

If we lose shooters prices go up.

Except for CO? Is it possible we could get AZCO to enlighten us on how they came to be so successful.

How does your business work so well?

    YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    FIGURE IT OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why should you have to shoot 100 shells? Toughen up the sport, and 50 target matches will settle the matter.

    $6.00 for shells.

    $5.00 for a round.

    X2 = $22.00

If this is Wobble, that's a fun and affordable recreational activity.

Vienna is not in Youngstown. North of Youngstown. They quit with the registered thing after the Grand moved. They throw targets Wednesdays 10-3 full go on 2 traps. They would open 4 if needed.

I see 20-50 shooters there at a time. Maybe 4 of us shoot registered on occasion.

Jib Jab is just west of Youngstown in Girard. That is the stop on the way home.

    Smoking,

Isn't the same issue as with target settings? With the exception of The Grand, ATA does not dictate the programs, the cost, the options, only the daily fees towards ATA. Once again, it is a local issue which you as a customer has to change.

And that is why you should leave and forget about the ATA, it is not set up that way and because it is, the other members will not let it be.

Well if the talk comes to fruition then there will be a new 4600 acre gun club here catering to all of the shooting sports but for now it's just a discussion. Something will have to be done as the other club in town has been surrounded by development and it's only a matter of time before it's sold or something happens. The opportunity has presented itself so we shall see if anyone picks up the ball and runs with it.

Proposal or statement, does not matter, it is not going to happen. Form your new association. In fact, let's form a half dozen or more, the more the merrier. I will joint as many as I can so there are more registered shoots every weekend.

And don't worry about being confused, many people of every day life are.

A point I made in discussions about building a new range. Having another Satellite Grand in October prior to the Autumn Grand in Tucson in November. Would not only benefit ATA but the shooters giving them a chance to get their registered targets in over a shorter time span.

Seriously Dave, that is the the oldest line used by those who want more gun control, "guns should be registered like cars are."

The difference is and many don't understand it, the Second Amendment is a protected right to bear arms and it is not to be infringed. Infringed meaning zero hinderence or transgression.

Having a drivers license is a privilege and owning a car or driving is on public streets is not a right specified on our Constitution. The biggest reason for vehicle registration is to assess and collect taxes on them.

Well we got some good news today. During a State of the Military Address today in El Paso the CG of Ft. Bliss said this:

At the end of his 40-minute talk, Twitty also announced that he is seeking a waiver to Army regulations that would have required gun owners who use the Fort Bliss Rod and Gun Club to register their weapons there.

Twitty cited the "unique circumstances" surrounding the club, which is on Fort Bliss property but is not part of the gated, secured part of the installation.

Right now, any changes to the club's policy that would have required gun registration have been put on hold and are being reviewed, Twitty said.
