The OH gang is amazingly silent. Why are they not jumping up and down demanding that they have first crack at the Big Shoot?

If you read some of the other posts you will see the Ohio shooters have a number of big shoots and have no interest in hosting the Grand.

The proper course is to let the party in need to ask for a favor. Has the ATA asked for Ohio's help?

ATA will show up hat in hand.
With majority of trap shooters in Eastern half of country Grand would do worst farther west.

The good well intentioned Trapshooters, with Morals from OHIO. Pennsylvania, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, New York, Maryland, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Etc. want no part of what happened to the ATA in their Amateur Trapshooting Association.

Just like us Ohio shooters do not want to support the present BOD, EC members, we want men of INTEGRITY, KNOWLEDGE. and MORALS to lead
    LEAD THE ATA.

Why don't some Ohio Shooters want the grand? Let's suppose that 10 years ago your wife ran off and went to Reno with a slick talking salesman. Before she left she tore down your hose, stole your dog, emptied your bank account, and abandoned your kids, oh yea she also went to work at the Mustang Ranch. Now 10 years later that slick salesman has dumped her. SO NOW she shows up at your brand new house, broke with all your money lost, your dog dead, older, fat and 10 years of Mustang Ranch employment behind and can't understand why you don't want to jump in bed with her and why the kids aren't welcoming her with open arms. Why do you think? Brad

Back to Ohio why not? It's not that Ohio Shooters as well as those from other states don't want it to come back to Ohio! Many shooters do want it to come back to Ohio.
One slight problem - where. I know the first place in Ohio that comes to most peoples mind is Cardinal Shooting Center, which is a logical choice. Problem is that the people at CSC
Have said on numerous occasions that there are some non negotiable terms and conditions that would have to be met prior to them being willing to hold the Grand at CSC.
I can't blame them for this. If you look at what they have one of, if not thee premier shooting facility in the country and it only keeps getting better.
Since their first shoot - every registered trap shoot has been an All - American point shoot. this has been over a 10 year period.
This in its self is a significant accomplishment not too many other shooting facilities can say this. I feel that this shows that the staff at Cardinal know how to put on a good shoot.

Really who wants that angry Ex back, who has done nothing but bad mouth you for the last 10 years.

You know the type still living in the past unwilling to let anything go.

I t wasn't an amicable divorce there will be no reconciliation.

A fresh start will be best for all concerned.

Get out a shoot its good for the soul.

My ex blamed me for things that happened in her life and to her for 10 before we even met, then after the divorce she still blames me for everything that has gone wrong in her life since we divorced 30 years ago ... Best money I ever spent was dumping that nut case .... She still blames me and I have not seen her in 25 years ... She was to stupid to work at Mustang Ranch, could not make change for a $20.00 ...

Sorry, I can understand some animosity toward the Sparta move but the ATA was up against the wall at the time and even though we all knew it wouldn't work we're temporarily stuck with it. The good part is that $12,000,000 we have in the bank could sure pour plenty of concrete at the right facility. Heck, the Grand is only two weeks/year and traphouses don't spoil. Might it be best to come up with some sort of arrangement and spend that money on something useful before it finds a way to disappear. It is OUR money afterall!

Can some of the pro-Sparta shooters tell everyone how they spend their day there .....

I am very interested in the people who do not have a RV/Camper ....

A day at the Grand is very long ... if you shoot more than one event you know the start time for each event is not an exact science ... so what do you do to pass the time ????

I stayed in a nice house in Sparta the last time I went .... but it was too far to keep going back and forth .... and Vendors get tired of seeing you if you are not buying anything, and for several days in a row for hours at a time ....

Sitting in your car/truck is far too hot, even if you spend the fuel money to run the A/C .... The CEB in-house eating/drinking does not like people just hanging-out, and it is rude to others who want to eat or drink ....

So .... please tell everyone how you have a great time .... it will give hope to all the anti-Sparta people that were not happy with being there.

You really aren't a Sparta guy. That is 10 to 15 minutes at most.

We are in and out of Sparta all the time. Wal-mart for water, snacks or more shells.

Lunch or fuel at the local spots.

Sparta is like any other gun club to me.

Show up shoot a hundred. Go fora relaxed lunch.

Spend a lot of time visiting with friends.

The vendors are a real treat , visit some more and then back to the line for another hundred.

That would be it during Grand week. Socialize some more and then get a group together for supper.

Back to the grounds and watch the shoot-offs, hopefully have a friend to cheer for.

If I leave the grounds by 10PM it is an early night.

I don't know what all else we do but we are generally racing to our bank so we aren't late.

I usually also have Phillip work on a couple of guns while I'm there.

I like the heat. I think there was only one year we found it a bit to much. I understand it is not for everyone.

No .... I am not a Sparta fan .... but took the time to go check it out a couple of times.

Heck, it takes "10 or 15 minutes at most" to get off the grounds .... if you do anything close to the speed limit.

There are plenty of shoots I like, and the Grand to me is just a shoot ... so my opinion is just that.

Well from the main event center you can be in Marisa for lunch or snacks or fuel in 8 minutes per Google maps.

The Wal-mart in Sparta is 8 minutes as well if you go north and then east on highway 18 to hi-way 4.

Definitely longer to Wal-mart going though the grounds 14 minutes per Google maps .

Not meant to change your mind just putting real numbers to it.

I think I am going to sneak out and shoot some this afternoon.:):)

I have never been to the WSRC, but have been to Sparta a few times long before the facility was thought of or built ... I find Sparta to be a typical laid back rural town with not much to do other than relax ... I found the people to be rather friendly but kind of uninformed about worldly matters, nor did they seem to care much about them ... We sat and talked a lot, emptied beer bottles to try and give the economy a boost ... They seemed to talk about the neighbors alot and about the new people from the big city who's movin in ... Oh yeah and Bubba got a new pickem up, well new to him anyway ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

I'm with wishbone...We are lucky to have Sparta why anyone would bash it is beyond me. I have noticed over the years the trap shooters that complain at a shoot are usually have never put on a shoot or have worked at one..... usually can point out the problems but don't have the solutions..... Like Wishbone usually I'm busy at the shoot most of the day but I agree there is not much for my wife to do if she came to Sparta....I usually go just to shoot and shop exclusively and I find both excellent.

Bashing (def) term usually used in reference to Sparta and the ATA. Coined by people defensive about their leaders' obvious poor decisions in relation to spending trap shooter fees and taxpayer dollars.

I have been to Sparta. It was a greedy stupid decision. Laid out poorly at the wrong location. Defended for too long. A deal made by the corrupt for the corrupt.

I have been to the Cardinal Center too. I experienced Vandalia. I can remember the "Grand" days.

We are in this mess because we were not into the politics of our own sport. We at least have a venue now for the obvious truth.

I think you are sandbagging me Romie. It is about who is in charge now. This circle jerkin click has to go. If not then we have to go.

Fortunately I have received some positive emails that some things are in the works.

Your leaders gave $250,000 of your ATA fees to the HOF. How do you feel about that?

When I was there the guys were drinking beer Friday night and watching the Grocery store truck un-loading. That was the weekly attraction in Sparta on Friday night.

I assume you are talking about the trap shooter HOF? You are talking about 2 % or am I missing something somewhere. Now if they spent it on themselves... That's different !

Here's something every ATA member should be doing :

Ask their Delegate if when they voted to donate $250,000 from the ATA's funds, were they informed that the HOF would pay (approximately $2 million) for the construction of the museum but they would not own it.

I think we need a chart or graph to be able to better understand why that money was donated.

N1H1 is great at Graphs and Charts, but usually they are inaccurate, as he uses his figures to slant it their way.

    Ironic isn't it?

One politician uses the opening of a "shooting complex" to try to stay in office and another one uses the closing(shuttering) of it to do the same thing.

Its all too bad 12 mil. maybe our fearless leaders can offer the 1.9 yearly maintaince fee , that would give those whom choose to attend at least 6 more years.

  33. oldphart

    oldphart Mega Poster Founding Member

If the IDNR had to close the Sparta facility and it was allowed to open for the Grand each year the maintenance fee would be greater than 1.9 million with repairs that would be required to open and repair a shuttered facility. Just sayin'.
