MEC makes a Model 100E wobble, 135 targets, distance 90 yards, oscillate vert 10 degrees to 50 degrees, side to side 36 degrees to 60 degrees, built-in interuptor to prevent reading MSRP $2245

    Downside is target capacity

Can the MEC throw doubles, Gary?

The wobble PAT has a downside which is that when it's not wobbling it's the devil's own task to set the vertical just where you want it. There's a lag/overrun with the push-switches they use and it's up/down/up/down until you just settle for something you can put up with.

Neil: The pat Trap Tech said to measure the base plate height once you get doubles set. and that's it on ALL pat traps, very easy.
They said Trap has to be rebuilt to wobble.
New Pat Trap for ATA is $7700, New Wobble trap is $8748. To convert to wobble is just under $5,000, must be done at plant, no conversion Kit.

Sounds like a fun machine to shoot.
But 135 targets total? Wow. So after every squad shoots it must be reloaded? Kind of a deal breaker, eh?

Damn. I had no idea it was that hard/expensive to convert them. Too bad.

Dr. longshot, I can't see anything in the promotional material for the Mec you cite saying it throws doubles.

Gary, good for you for calling Pat! I accept that you were told "(For you to set the height of a wobble machine you would ) measure the base plate height once you get doubles set.and that's it on ALL pat traps, very easy."

    That would work if

    1. Setting the angle of a trap would really give you the same target. I've only tested that a couple of times, setting adjacent traps to the same angle, and neither time were the targets the same height.

    2. The wind never blew.

    3. Also, it leaves out the hysteresis of the button/trap movement system. When you push the button it does not move immediately and when you let go, it does not stop immediately. As I said above "There's a lag/overrun with the push-switches they use and it's up/down/up/down until you just settle for something you can put up with."

I did notice that the Mec has an adjustment to eliminate "curl." I wonder that involves tipping the trap to match the angle of the end of the arm on a handset. In an article in American Rifleman, Canadian engineer John Brindle said that throwing the target tipped is required to get the flight right. I thought of trying that at Sparta, but decided it wasn't a good idea because every time a bird came out the shooter didn't like, I would be blamed. I wasn't ready to fight that battle.

Neil: The downside on a Pat Trap is, is Hydraulic, and the check Valves cannot leak on the elevation Cylinder, as it would change the height of targets.

WITH A PRICE DIFFERENCE OF$6500.00 BETWEEN THE PAT AND THE MEC MACHINES YOU CAN HIRE A LOT OF HELP TO PUT IN THE TRAP HOUSES TO KEEP THE MACHINES FULL.
Pay them a good wage and they are only an expense when the machine is operating Doc, there are a lot of downsides to the Pat's, most will just not admit it. They have never had as good a target presentation as the Win.1524 machines. They are slow on pulls even with the voice calls, with out them they are useless. Roger C.

Are both of you sure the Mec 100E throws doubles? if not, it's not an option. There is an ATA version that holds 500 targets, though.

    The owner's manual

    https://www.mecshootingsports.com/Content/Images/uploaded/Operating Manuals/100E - OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS VF.pdf

does not mention how to set doubles with the 100E.

Additionally, with the scores I see being shot today, I can't see how the target presentation can be that bad.

An interesting offer is the the availability to order a "left-hand" machine. It would fun to see how that would change target breaks. My prediction is that the big pieces would generally fly to the left, not the right.

After the rules for target flight were adjusted down, so the Pat's could be certified to throw registered targets. Then you shortened them, narrowed them, and did not enforce any rules about who or how they were set, things seem to be headed in a fantastic direction. Roger C.
