Which is the premier venue. Note that the CC now has shot screens from end to end. Or does it matter?

Never been to Sparta but we really like Cardinal Center because of all the local amenities. There's more to Trapshooting than spending a week dining on hot dogs and hamburgers cooked on a grille in the middle of nowhere.

I like hot dogs and hamburgers on the grille

Just not 10 hours from my house

Location, location, location is and has always been the most important factor of locating a business based on the summary of most successful business's over the years ... To look at both locations, the Cardinal Center (Ohio) vs the WSRC in Sparta, Ill, The Cardinal Center appears to have the most amenities readily available to make their customers more comfortable in the shortest distance on or in the general area of the facility ... The Cardinal Center is also an owned facility where as the WSRC is a rented facility owned by the State of Illinois, the state has had many questionable business practices over many years for one reason or another or no reason at all on occasion ... The State of Illinois can shutter the facility (WSRC) with out having to give notice and never think twice about it where as the Cardinal Center is a family business supported by its customer base in operation of services for profit ... The WSRC in it self is not profitable, nor does it break even to the State of Illinois, even though the ATA profits by hosting shoots there even though attendance records show a pathetic turn out annually ... Based on all of the obvious reasons the Cardinal Center would win out over the WSRC hands down and has since it has been in business ... WPT ... (YAC) ... (Just my take on it ) ...

P.S. Forgot to mention easy to get to the HOF ...

I think there are a few clubs that should also be included. Tucson trap and skeet and PSSA, just my opinion though.

If PSSA expands as planned that could get interesting.

The Poll was between WSRC and Cardinal Center, I agree that others should or could be in the mix but were not included in this Poll as asked …. WPT … (YAC) …

Some shoots are going up and some are going down. Last ten Handicap Championships. PA is blue.

PA State Shoot main Handicap 1164 in 2006 down to 757 in 2017. 35% loss in 10 years. Nothing good here.

The drop in attendance is purely the nature of the Beast, the younger crowd today has and has had video games to occupy their time and they don't have to leave home let alone stand in line for their turn to shoot … The Younger Generation is taking the easy way out in more ways than one … The older shooters are a dying breed, some day there will be nothing left but the new and unimproved version (younger Generation) and clay target shooting will fade away … There will always be those that desire to shoot but not like our generation, sadly thems the facts Jack … WPT … (YAC) …

If anyone is interested in a truly great presentation of and a means to compare the Cardinal Center with the WSRC in Sparta, Ill just venture over to the Cardinal Center Face book page and check out the pictures (photos) of the amenities at the Cardinal Center ... They have updated pictures of the shot curtains, the swimming pool, party pictures etc ... Cardinal Center looks like a truly amazing place and a shooters paradise ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

IMO OH has never been non-resident shooter friendly & I have shot some of their shoots going back 30 years. My last trip to their state shoot was in 2014 and I said never again. The things I didn't especially care for were the traps available to me and the long walks from my truck to the traps. Now, I may go back just to see the shot curtains. I shot OK on the "BAD" traps winning the non-resident Veteran HOA & Championship doubles. Again IMO the CC is far from a shooters paradise. I like wide open spaces thus Sparta works better for me and I have been to both places. It's funny that some of the biggest naysayers for Sparta have never been there.

"It's funny that some of the biggest naysayers for Sparta have never been there."

Me and more than 2000+ other shooters have never been there. Maybe that is why the GAH event draws such pathetic numbers. I would like to see a number for the people that DID go once or twice and decided that they would never go back.

Never been there but made the decision not to ever go?

I've never had a lobotomy either but I know I don't want one.

On second thought, that lobotomy thing might be just the ticket to get more people going to that place in IL.

Comparing the size of both places and the supposed "prestige" of the shoots held at each I would say the lack of shot curtains didn't matter.

Oh please Butch, you already know the worst traps at CC are better than the best traps at PA. Long walk-bs, if there was a coyote in a trap twice that distance you'd be smiling. Besides, a bit of exercise won't kill ya-trust me. That said, CC, may need more fish in the pond but neither will I have to drive another hour to find a great bar and restaurant after shooting. Maybe spending too much time in Maine during the Winter has gotten you used to deprivation while we're able to head to the local bar shortly after Tammy finishes skinnin' and strechin' her foxes. That's the pleasure of having close by amenities. There's more to shooting than collecting trinkets.

Ironically, I had been to Sparta several times prior to someone getting the idea to relocate there … I had also been to the Grand in Vandalia on many occasions which is the reason when someone mentioned moving the grand to Sparta, Ill. I initially thought it was a (sic) joke and just could not believe anyone in their right mind would ever consider it … Sparta COULD not pass the required due diligence the ATA set the minimum stands for so they opted for a lease, (Mou, rental agreement, hand shake ( who knows ) to get around that, after investing a boat load of money in trying to find the ideal spot to relocate to … Sparta is what it is and will be until the end of time, many of the towns residents are not happy about the facility being there but like most other things in the great state of Illinois that does not, did not matter to who felt it was going to be a wind fall for southern Illinois and the State of Illinois … There are many more people who had been there and will not go back than there are people who look forward to attending every year (based on the attendance records ) … WPT … (YAC) …

My grandkids love VR (virtual reality) They can shoot aliens, gangsters, criminals, or just about anything else and it's really fun. If you haven't tried it, you should. I even like it, especially auto racing. The best system money can buy is about $1000, I know I bought one for them to use. Do they like real shooting? Kind of, but is mostly old guy fun according to them. VR is a lot cheaper. Just a fact of life, as I've discovered.
