The ATA Should have removed him as he was/is not performing his job, to expected and His posting of his Projections. No company will/should not keep him on their payroll for Non-Conformance.

I see he is giving some of that back as his business is now listed as a 2018 Grand American Sponsor.

He maybe giving some back to the ATA as a sponsor but he will be getting it back as a business tax deduction you can bet on that. In my opinion no cost to him maybe even more money in his pocket

Jealousy is a terrible thing. I wish I had his job and he had a feather in his ass so we could both be tickled!
ED of the ATA is just like being a weather forecaster,
be wrong all the time, and still get paid!

Roger if you want the BOD & half the delegates removed you should run for delegate in AZ. And then for BOD. You may be able to get the changes you want! Same with WPT run & make changes!

Ya think Frank thought the same thing about making changes?

From a newspaper article in 2010
"Frank Rively is facing a difficult task. As the new executive director of the Amateur Trapshooting Association, he must do everything he can to rebuild the sport and ATA participation."

    T-Shot,
The Board of Directors are the delegates, the separation is the Executive Committee where you stand in line for the new shotgun and all the add on benefits that have been mentioned on here time and time again so if you had been paying attention you would know all that ... Trust me when I say the last thing they would want would be me on the EC, be like Trump getting the goods on all of the democraps who are going to end up in jail ... I would be like that BULL in a CHINA shop you always hear about and they would need more than one Sgt at Arms to carry me out of there ... Not sure if any of them have the balls to stand face to face with the membership ... My opinion is they are lower than Whale S_-T and are only there for the freebies and to get their expenses paid and catered to at the grands they travel to on the memberships dime ... I feel if you cannot respect the person sitting in the seat the seat does not matter any longer and only takes up space ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

WPT so what your saying is just give up on the whole EC, BOD & ATA in general? And then do what? If you don't want to help fix it why are you complaining?

OP, Can you give me some tax advice based on the above. I would love to be able to make donations to something and get a tax deduction that put "more money in [my] pocket." Heck, I would give away all kinds of money to places like the ATA if I could make money from doing it.
I am not an expert in filing taxes for sure but my tax deductions come off the top line of my income so I don't have to declare that income. Less income and I don't pay tax on income I don't get. But since I am not in a 100% or greater tax bracket, I don't make money from it. It costs me about 60% of what I give right out of my pocket. (That is the 60% I would normally keep from my income after paying about 40% in taxes.)
Even in the case of a tax credit for some kinds of investments or donations (like you get an $8,000.00 tax credit when you buy an electric car) you get essentially a voucher of that credit to use to pay in taxes but you have to spend (or give) that amount (or more) to get the credit. Zero sum game.
So, if you know of a way to write off a donation or anything that is deductable (like interest on a mortgage which most of us do) and make money from doing it, I am all ears.

Interesting point. I didn't know he had a lead reclaiming biz. Those competitors of his should make some VERY PUBLIC bids for the rights.

No offense T Shot but running against incumbents is a rather uphill battle. Ever hear of the US Congress? See much change in the way they do business in your life?
    Can't sue Congress.
But you may be able to bring some kind of shareholders or members suit against the ATA or the BOD or EC if they are misappropriating money or somehow knowingly breaching their fiduciary duty to the members.

    Jake,
Just to explain for your ears only, We will use basic numbers say a sponsor gives $ 100 and at tax time based on their income their taxable income is $120 less than it would have been before the donation they would be ahead of the game by $20, not rocket science. Hope you can understand this as I typed really slow.

Holy shit. A $100 dollar donation gives you $120 less income? And I get to keep the $100 in income? Wow. That's great. PM me with the name of your tax accountant. I need his help.

    Jake,
You really do need help, please read what I wrote and as stated I typed really slow the dollar numbers were only for an explanation (not real numbers) again good luck in understanding the information. Flame away

    T-Shot,
Please point out to me where I said to give up on the EC, ATA, BOD, and or anything else for that matter ...I was not trying to be funny when I said the comment about the Bull in the China shop, I have had direct dealings with the EC before and not one of them had the balls to come up and say anything to me at least to me face, but I will tell you if looks could kill I would of been dead long ago ... I guess it was the E.D.( John Norris) back then that asked me about the usual and customary drinks, bottles, finger food, and munchies they wanted in the room where they were hiding from the Membership ... I told them if they wanted drinks, food or anything else to get off of their ass and go sit at the bar with the people they are supposed to represent, or go to the food window and by the way nothing is free so bring cash ... I did not make any points that day (week ) during the Spring Grand , told one of the VP's if I see him by the cash register again I will have him locked up so get the hell out from behind my counter ... No, they are not ready for me on the EC or as a delegate, I do not play well with others when I see them ripping people off as they were and still are today ... The ATA for all practical purposes is a dead horse, that can't draw a crowd (confirmed by attendance figures) since the relocation to Illinois and before ... The Members are making them pay for their screw ups and for not paying attention prior to the move ... Don't get me started, I have ZERO RESPECT for any and everyone on the EC, the ED and many of the BOD, that's just me and obviously many others who are making them pay with their wallets ... Chalk it up and move on, I can shoot every day without the ATA ... I joined as a Life Member on the second day of a two day shoot over 45 years ago by the way, back then it was well worth while, Now its not worth the powder to blow it to hell and back ... The only thing missing is "INTEGRITY" and some balls ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

P.S. If I was complaining you would damn sure know it, I'm just stating facts ... If your Happy so be it there are many who are not ...

I am not an attorney but.......is there a conflict when you are the Executive Director and a sponsor, and a vendor?

OP, I don't intend to flame. Honest.
But a tax write off is just a reduction in income for the amount of the donation. You don't pay 100% of the income (or donation) in taxes. The donation simply allows you to not have to pay the tax on that income that you donate. That is the amount you "save" by not having to pay it.
    Using your example.
I make $100.00. Let's say in my bracket I would pay $40,00 of that in taxes leaving me $60.00 to spend.
But I decide to donate the $100.00 to my church and write it off as a donation. I do get a tax deduction of $40.00. But the entire $100.00 went to the church. I gave up the $60.00 I had for myself if I had not made the donation to the church.
Yes, the church gets $100.00 and I only ended up contributing $60.00 of the $100.00 because of the tax write off. But I don't get to write off more than I give and, I have to give up 100% of the money to get the 40% reduction in taxes. I don't get to keep the difference. It went to the church.
I actually give money to charities every year. This is not something I am unfamiliar with. I give money at my company's corporate level and from my personal income.
I am not trying to defend the ATA, the EC, the BOD or Gipson. But no one in those groups gets to give the organization a donation and then write off more than they give. They only get to write off the tax bite. And, they have to give up 100% of the money to do it.
Again, no flame intended. I like to call em like I see em and I can be educated. But I don't get on board with an argument just because I agree with the person's point of view who is making the case.
    Regards, Jake

Eights, How about selling a building to the organization that is a non profit and you are the president? Also making a huge profit on the sale. Conflicts of interest do not seem to bother the EC or BOD. Roger C.

Oh, I think we have seen lots of interesting stuff on that around here. There may be a burning fire there. I have seen a bunch of documents and facts posted which raise serious questions and have heard no logical explanation. Amount stolen or misappropriated is less clear. But it is far from transparent.
Whether a member could bring an action I don't know. It is probably buried in the corporate charter and accompanying docs.
I am going to take a wild guess that when you simply join and pay your dues to shoot in events you would have a difficult time. And for sure, the folks on the ATA dole would use ATA funds to make your life (or your attorney's life) miserable.
Entrenched groups often become like clubs for those in control. They share in the spoils or perks and defend their territory.
