Back in 2014 an 18 yd shooter won the GAH from the 18, looking @ his scores on the ATA--a month earlier he shot a 98 in West Virginia--his yardage I believe should have been the 19--even though this is really late --,it still deserves attention-wonder if he got his card punched, or the computer didn't catch up

He broke a 49 in a Big 50. This was exhaustively investigated by then PA ATA Delegate Glenn Lash and the ATA. The result was the 2 Clubs involved were suspended from throwing ATA targets and several hundred targets being removed from shooters who attended those Clubs.

Just double checked didn't know it was a big 50-still believe it was the sand bag of the century award--not a real GAH

    Several THOUSAND targets

One of his shooting pals on those squads was thrown out of the ata years ago for winning a big shoot out west USING SOMEONE ELSES CARD. He probably would have gotten away with it but he STOPPED TO GET HIS PICTURE TAKEN for T&F. That right there shows just how smart this guy really was and the company the GAH winner kept. They let him back in after a few appeals and then this happens.

You really think this is going to work?
Hell yes it's going to work. Listen kid, If I wouldn't have stopped for that damn picture my bank account, well, never mind about that, just listen to me. We do this right and you will be on the friggin eighteen yard line come August. HA! the eighteen yard line. You gotta wonder what they were thinking when they decided to let people shoot handicap from the eighteen. Well that's their problem not ours. They want to narrow the angles, slow them down, AND let people shoot from that close? Good for us.
OK, I'll do whatever you guys say.
You just bear down and shoot them like sixteen yard line targets and you will be fine.

You can search back through old threads on here and read all about the target deletions of the three amigos. I especially liked the posts from people saying that the whole story was bogus. We, on the "dark side", didn't know what we were talking about and that sort of thing could never ever happen. Until the facts about him and his two buddies having all the targets removed was reported by the almighty ata.

I must have missed all the "sorry you guys were right" posts afterward.

Your thoughts about sandbagging and not being the true winner were probably shared by at least one other person. The guy that broke the other 100 and then lost in a shoot off.

BTW, that other shooter? He was on the 27.

It was back in the late 70s or 80s a short yardage shooter won the Grand .19yd., I think.
Can't recall his name, but I'm sure someone will.
Lots of controversy on his win.

    Regards....Gerald

I believe the other shoot was Berlet-he really got screwed--and Was told the 18 yarder played every option, was shooting a K-80--very typical 18 yd shooter--talk about shooting fish in a barrel- 150 super singles get you a GAH ring-is the ring worth being known for what really happened

Does anyone really know him as a cheater if no one is willing to name him on an internet forum?

Wrong name, google 2014 results and you will see the correct person.

You can look the name up in the 2014 results. I would hazard a guess the other 2 guys he shot all those PHANTOM targets with know him for his "target managing" skills.

Shot thousands of targets from the 18 without a punch--yea-right

You have to shoot, or at least turn in, scores that don't get you punched.

I was at the Vegas shoot and what happened with the picture was that the shooter in question was ducking the photographer all week but got caught by him after a shoot off and HAD to let his picture be taken. He got a way with it for a couple of months before the truth came out. T&F picture spilled the beans on them. Other facts about as I remember them.

Sadly this is far from the only cheating incident that I have witnessed in 45 years of ATA. A few cheaters have made it to the top of ATA office holders in fact.

They should have banned him for life. When his grandson started shooting he applied for reinstatement so he could teach the kid how to shoot. Bingo, heeeeees baaaaaaack

The late Leo Cerar from PA had a little something to do with the story getting out. I believe he made the first call when he saw the picture. Took him about 30 seconds to get on the phone. At first we couldn't believe it. Just how dumb do you have to be to pull a stunt like that?

    Rhetorical question

Flyersarebest has the reinstatement story 100 per cent correct. He appeared before the BOD members and gave the little story about wanting to shoot with his grandson and with a few tears they voted to let him back into the ATA.

I know this is true because I was there.

So why is everyone so scared to simply say Adam Stefkovich ‘s name? Why all the tiptoeing around it? Folks can read about the results and draw their own conclusions on whether or not someone could shoot thousands of registered targets and not get off the 18 yard line (a sign of a below average shooter) and make the curious decision to play all the options in the biggest shoot of the year, and not be target-managing themselves to a win.

I don’t think I’ll shoot registered again till I know I’m good enough to shoot at least A scores and run 100s from the 23-yard line, since at the big shoots, even B-C class are being won with A class scores, and it seems even folks who should be shooting further back based on ability, aren’t.

It "all came together" in one of the doubles events too. Broke a 99 to win class B. Pretty good score for someone that posted scores in the 80's and low 90's leading up to that week.

Seem to remember some years ago a shooter won the GAH from (not positive of this) 27yd line. Couple years later same shooter won again from a much shorter yardage. (23?) Point being how did he get reduced numerous yardage between wins? Not sure what yardages were but was at least 3 yard reduction between wins if i remember right. Anybody else remember this?

I'm no HB but from a little research I found the names of the GAH winners that shot from the 27

There are 9 listed starting with the first, Reggie J. in 1978, through Robert M. in 2009. The list covered the GAH up to 2017 and none of the 9 have their name listed twice.

I didn't see anyone's name listed as a winner twice no matter what the yardage was.

If I missed something I'm sure someone will correct me.
