I got into a discussion on facebook today with a shooter claiming scores are so much lower because they're throwing Biodegradable targets. He also claimed that reduced break quality was another result. Can anyone reassure us this guy is full of it.

Since the curtain was installed you can no longer see the smoke from the target. The color of the curtain is comparable to the smoke of the target.

Then the color of smoke from a pitch target is black, and it should be visable. The color from a bio target is more white and would be very hard to see.
    Bio's are not good targets.
When we were cleaning up the old Phoenix trap club. I was told by Brian, the owner of white flyer that they would back the club 100% if the EPA tried to hammer us over the target residue. He said the pitch targets were not a hazmat item.
I ask him then why are you making the BIO'S. they are not as good as the pitch targets, and the dust from the Bio's ruin electric motors on trap and skeet machines. He said he really did not know.
They are also a little harder to break. Less chips, less smoke balls, When I know a club throw's them I use 71/2 shot on all games. Roger C.

The owner said he did not know why they were making a certain target. Seriously?

I also ask him, why they use a different paint, on the all orange target, than they do on the orange dome. Same answer.
The paint on the all orange should also be used on the domed target. it is brighter and easier to see. Roger C.

This joker still says his All-American buddies claim they were BIOS. Anyone at the top know otherwise? I'm arguing they weren't. I shot tons of BIOS and the only complaint I've had was they tended to fly a bit more erratic.

I Have Shot There And Have No Idea If They Were Bios Or Not. But I Sure Would Like To See A Black Rim Target Thrown There.

Why doesn't somebody just call "management" on the phone and ask them?

If you see a white cloud when you do hit a bio hard that is the give away. I do not think they make a Bio in any thing but all orange. That is why the announcement about the CC going to all orange targets.
The joker is probable 100% correct. Roger C.

My squad shot every event at the Cardinal Classic shoot. In all those targets we did have 1 target that gave off a white color smoke when it broke. It was very visable against the dark color of the shot screen. I am guessing that one target out of the 8,000+ that we shot was simply an odd ball bio that was put into a case of pitch targets by mistake. All the other targets gave off the familiar dark cloud when they broke. The dark smoke is more difficult to see against the dark screen.

Bio's come in 135 count boxes also. The 90 count are for retail stores only. You used to be able to order targets by the trailer load at discount stores at cheaper price than at a distributor. That was ended by the factory. Roger C.

LCH, There is a difference between hard targets, and harder thrown targets. Just thought I would mention it.

Bios are marked as such on the boxes. Pitch target boxes always have the warning regarding being toxic to hogs. So just check the boxes or be patient. Bios will kill the grass as the target clutter degrades.

I have it on good authority that the CC did throw Bios for at least some events during the most recent large shoot.

Sounds like San Antonio. Last time I was there some traps (maybe 1 or 2) threw Bios. Seems they just put a few boxes in a few traps to keep it interesting.

Not with the harm they cause to trap machines

True....but I feel the results are the same. If a target is harder, it is more difficult to break. Same goes for a target that's faster or wider, it's more difficult to break. Maybe not to the same degree, but in both situations you're getting a more difficult target.

LCH, Were you around when clubs were throwing Federal targets, and Remington from Enid, Ok. plant? If you were you would know the difference. Roger C.

(WARNING) The dust from Bio targets gets in your motors, then when the humidity gets high it turns to mud. It then burns out the motors. They were very hard on Win. skeet machines. Those machines take a special service motor. I am not sure they are available anywhere. Roger C.

Definately not, Im a tad on the young side. And that was a joke about CC should throw Bios.

LCH, You must be careful when using humor, about targets around trap and skeet shooters. Soon as they smell gun oil all humor is off of the table. Roger C.
