Someone at our club told me 1/3 of the ATA shooters are kids. I was thinking that sounds good! An invest in the youth cant be wrong. But the person also said most of their memberships are mandated by the SCTP.

Someone more knowledgeable that me explain this. Good or bad, true or not?

In 2016 10,905 ATA members were sub jrs and jrs out of an ATA membership of 31,815. Of those kid shooters less than 1% of sub jrs and 1% of jrs shot enough targets to qualify for the All American Teams. These kid shooters are mostly SCTP kids that are forced to join the ATA to shoot SCTP team single event which is registered ATA even though the doubles team and handicap team's targets are not registered.

Out of 4891 Sub jrs only 68 shot enough targets to be an All American, out 6014 jrs only 55 shot enough targets. The SCTP kids fund the ATA for no gain. I've tried to talk them out of forcing the kids to shoot ATA with no luck. Brad

My point is more that the ATA has some work to do. The EC and BOD and Gipson get failing grades. But name a delegate that cares.....

Meanwhile....the USPA had a 42% increase in new attendees at their nationals. I'm not a pistol shooter, but I was surprised to see that on Shooting USA tonight. Sure, they don't have teh numbers we do, but it makes you think.

Maybe the sub-Jr & Jr shooters don't want to be All Americans. They just want to shoot some targets but not that much.

T Shot, Multiply the number 10905 times the cost of a yearly membership in the ATA and you will know why they are forced to join. The EC and BOD are dooming the ATA. they are failing as leaders of the organization, the register shooters are going to go the way of the dodo bird. I hope H.B. writes a book on the rise and fall of the sport and names the names of the perps. Roger C.

It doesn't matter how many join the ATA as a Jr or sr-vet it's the same membership. No one tells you how much to shoot. Why can't you be happy with anybody shooting targets? It not always about the $$.

OK I'll bite. You fellas have to close your eyes and imagine you are talking to one of WPT's toasters or someone with dementia. T Shot will get it. Here goes.....

T Shot, the point that 1/3 of the shooters are forced to be members. That leaves the voluntary bunch of shooters as only 2/3 of the total. You see 1/3 or 33% + 2/3 or 66% = 100%

Up until recently we did not have to force kids to be members. Unfortunately the kids usually leave the shooting world when they have to pay for their own bullets and targets. I am not sure I explained that slow enough but I ran it by my cat and he gets it.

Smithy are you really that dumb? Anyone that shoots registered targets is FORCED to join the ATA. And if you think they LEAVE shooting because THEY have to pay for their own bullets & targets you bee to wake up! D.A.

My kids probably wont be shooting once they leave the house and they are forced by the SCTP to join the ATA. Not sure why. Not sure why you don't know that T Shot.

Also, the ATA is not the only organization that throws registered targets. Are you new to trapshooting?

First, I don't agree with the SCTP requiring ATA membership to participate in the SCTP State shoots. However, to state that 1/3 of the membership is forced to join is simply incorrect. 1) Not all JR/SJ shooters are SCTP members. 2) There are a fair number of JR/SJ that would be shooting ATA if the SCTP didn't require the membership.

The fact that less than 1% shoot enough targets to qualify for AA is a meaningless statistic.

And, as I've stated before, at one time the ATA gave 50% of the membership dues back to the SCTP. Not sure if that deal is still in play or not.

Iowa Guy, Why is it a good deal for the kids to join the ATA. When only their 16 yard targets are the only ones that are registered? Can they shoot the other venues at an ATA shot? If so why not register them? Roger C.

  27. iowa guy

Roger, I don't support the ATA membership requirement. This requirement is only for the SCTP state shoots and possibly their regional shoots. I don't know why they don't register the doubles targets at these shoots. The handicap targets can't be registered due to the SCTP's handicap structure.

As far as these SCTP kids shooting at any other registered shoot, they would register all their targets.

Post a thread where I "insulted" someone. Every post that I put on here in which I wanted, really wanted,to INSULT a booger eating, ata Kool-Aid drinking moron was taken down by a mod.

The word idiot is not an insult. Look it up, if someone is an idiot what other word would YOU use? I'm not on the computer right now so I can't cut and paste the definition but I believe idiot IS a word. If you don't mind please post the definition for us. Then,if we like, we can post our "opinion" about T shot being one or not.

Go ahead, I'll wait for both.

I will tell YOU what sad is.

Flyersarebest. Oh my...I must have insulted you based on your comments above. If so, I regret including you in my comment. I guess if calling someone an "idiot" is an insult, this may be a matter of opinion. That said, I posted another, later comment in which I reminded myself that, on this "open" forum, seemingly anything goes. So be it. I should keep my opinions to myself and just observe the cheap shots, insults, and cat fights by active posters on this OPEN forum. Regards, Ed

IF 1/3rd of the ATA is kids, Their membership dues and shooting fees, they are supporting the ATA at present time. They do not know they are being led.

You didn't insult me. To be insulted I would have to care about your opinion. You would have to matter. What you ALSO DIDN'T DO is copy any of my posts that insulted someone. From your lack of response to my request I can only assume you did look up the words dodge or deflect.

Look up the word idiot. If someone is an idiot and you address them as such it is not an insult, just a fact of life. Some people just can't help it.

You don't have to keep your comments to yourself. You can post almost anything you like on here.

Old Goat 2, I could have used the term "moronic statement", but I personally think idiot more correctly describes T shot from reading his posts on other subjects concerning trap shooting. An ass kisser is someone any of us over 30 years old know all to well and that describes T shot also and his everything the EC and ATA does is okie dokeie with him ( another clue of his trap shooting knowledge and experience).

If I insulted him good, in this age of sexual harassment, me too, hurt feelings bullshit world I'm forced to live in and watch on (if I do watch TV) I must speak up. After all the time's I've be intellectually harassed by dumb asses on this and other web sites that do not know shit about trap shooting, and frankly I don't believe suspect anything either, I'm making it a my place to point it out.

In 1997 I was lying in the hospital having suffered a brain aneurysm and realized I could die, At that time I was upset with Tom Acklin the OSTA delegate and all I could think about was how bad it would be to die without telling the dumb ass what I thought of him, so right there in the hospital bed I made a promise to myself that if I made it I would never miss the chance to tell some ass hole what I thought of him and to his face if possiable, If I die I'm going happy.

So until someone has enough balls to shut me up Idiot is the word I will use. If that pisses you off GOOD. In fact as anyone who knows "this has been trap shooter" personally will tell you I will say the same things I've written on this web page to your face, T shot's face or anyone else's when I see them. After all I am one brain aneurysm past giving a shit.

The reason the ATA is so badly off today is stupid people that shoot that don't know history. !00,000 members in 1980 and about 32000 today with 1/3 of those temps because they have to be. Nice business plan. The problem is that these stupid shooters come and go and have left the ATA in the shit shape is for those of us who actually love trap shooting, its history, and the challenge of it. Most have just quit and turned registered shooting over to the T shots and the ribbon shooters.

Another stat that you might want to know is that of 31,815 ATA shooters only 1021 qualified for All American, and there was 260 All American's that year But yet the ATA makes everything about All Americans and screw the 30,000 other members. All American points, Satellite Grands, and Registered practice. 70% fewer shooters, 70%. Just Fantastic. . Brad

Brad, A very good summation of the shit hole that registered shooting has morphed into. Idiots are in charge and the other idiots support them. When this organization is finally extinct who will be blamed. The old time shooters for leaving the sinking ship. I quote another poster (we did not leave the ATA, they left us)
When the smartest people in the room took over, the down hill slide started, and has been picking up speed ever since. I guess this is a definition of a fantastic direction. Roger C.

You guys you want to make from an recreational game a high performance something.
ATA is easy, boring and exiting like you kiss your grand mom. Going down from 100,000 to 32,000 reflects that.
If you want to bring people back, get rid of registered targets, do a fair and easy class classification, open the door to everybody who wants to compete( without any restrictions) and put money on the table
    Listen and learn.

My prospective would be to go back to a time and place where all we needed for a permanent Card was 1500 tagets, 500 of each, sgls, hdcp, & dbls, easier to obtain and cheaper all around. you were reduced in yardage if you did not have the average to stay there. I never liked the Targets only category, You should be able to play the money as long as you had a permanent Card, or not shoot the Grand. 5 weekends you would qualify fpr Perm. card.
